This is Sisters of Mercy's Garden of Delight with Andrew Eldritch on the vocals. I have tried re-mastering it using Izotope's Ozone 4. If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to let me know.

I traded tapes ( analog ) back in the late 80's with Europeans , and got a hold of this , among other recordings of SOM. Nice to see this pop up here.
Despite who wrote the song or how Eldritch felt about it, he makes it absolutely beautiful - I myself love the lyrics. His tone for them is perfection.
It's written by Wayne Hussay it's in The Mission Children album

Amazing version....a fine proof that if completed and released as was planned, the "Left on Mission and Revenge" album might have probably been the best goth rock record ever.
So sad it didn't come true, all of them were perfect together, the Mission's version lacks something that I found in this one....

This track was recorded after the release of First And Last And Always and just before Craig Adams, Wayne Hussey and Gary Marx left the band. It was supposed to be one of the tracks in their second upcoming album but the huge differences between Andrew Eldritch and Wayne Hussey led to the departure of the latter. Hussey re-recorded the song with The Mission but in my opinion, he didn't meet the glamor of Eldritch's deep voice nor the sound of the original version of the track.

This was recorded in November 1984 while the group was still a 4-piece.

I think probably too much ado was made of the Eldritch/Huessy thing. Even though the Mission was way different (Great band too, though) you can see how the underpinning or the lyrics work with eldritch's darker stylings- because Huessy has those same stylings also. I think people forget he didn't just work on their 1st album but a few 12"s. I liked the direction Andrew went in afterward- but felt kind of experimental and rudderless without his bandmates. I wish Huessy and Adams would've just kind of followed along but then Andrew probably had an ego that wouldn't allow for anything more. Great Potential is lost all the time for a lack of compromise.
Also after breakup he recorded Floodland and after that album traded singing for mumbling

From what I’ve heard Eldrich and hussey were at nadir by this point and Andy thought Wayne’s songs were substandard so this was rejected and later heard on early mission records

Dear Elias, this is the beginning of what I haven't been expecting for 35 years, for I only dreamt of it. The split of the 1985 Sisters'lineup is to me the most tragic event in the whole history of pop music. The premature death of Joplin Hendrix Morrison Wilson and B. Jones couldn't be more serious, for they had works done. The Sisters had only one huge album. What we here hear thank to you (and I never could dream that an Eldritch version of at least one the songs of the first Mission album, one of the two only tolerable, existed) gives us only a pale idea of what this story could have become, if the Eldritch's ego hadn't ruined it all. The afterwards career of the so-called Sisters is a complete flop, apart from 2 or 3 songs.
Hussey's voice is for sure a complete disaster but as a composer he contributed to the highest wave of Sisters's creativity, to which Eldritch alone never reached afterwards.
If I was a millionaire producer, I would invest everything in the come-back of the 1985 line-up.
The 1985 album is a masterpiece and what Mission showed just afterwards gives us again an insight of what the whole story could have been. Infinite thanks then.
Did Eldritch recorded other Mission's songs?
I know he stupidly rejected Hussey's further compositions (but why? for Christ's sake; for half of the 1985 album is written by Hussey - but it seems that he equally disliked it, what allows us to think that Eldritch has just been the happy (for us) instrument of something he didn't master at all). And I must confess this version of the Garden of delight isn't good, one feels Eldritch doesn't feel at ease here.

Is Garden of Delight a Mission song? I only knew it from a Sisters Bootleg CD.
@@frauleindaniela it is indeed dear Daniela. In the very beginning Hussey's band took over Sisters'name before Eldritch got into a clash and got it back. That's seemingly the reason why your bootleg is called after the Sisters - but the band playing is that of Hussey. By the way, the Mission's songs composed by Hussey were intented to be recorded with Eldritch, i. e. with the phenomenal line-up of First and last and always. But Eldritch ruined everything he touched. And Hussey's voice is quite disastrous, halas.
@@debranchistesdumondeentier2946 No, it is a proper Sisters bootleg with this version on it. 😉 And I heard the Mission version in the meantime as I finished reading Wayne Hussey’s autobiography in which he also mentions this song.

Partly a bit disgusting, but often very funny and always very interesting!
I’m also very sad about that spilt back then but after reading the book it kind of made a bit more sense. It was like a bad marriage destined to fail. The characters involved were just too different.

I think the lyrics aren’t Eldritch lyrics….the music sounds very FALAA….I think the stuff Eldritch did on Floodland was more progressive….I can see why he rejected it
Indeed those are Wayne's lyrics which Eldritch always disliked . If you recall all the songs that Hussey wrote for FALAA kept his musical compositions but not his lyrics , Eldritch would rewrite them with his own lyrics . At some point I guess Wayne got sick of that which I kind of understand .

Saw the mission in 86/87. Fucking hated them. Unfortunately was too young to see eldritch et al live. I sooo wish he’d stuck with what he was good at - being a goth mega god and this track had legs for that. I think he must have done a shit tonne of meth and woke up thinking he was a German dj or summit.
I’m gonna go now and listen to gods own medicine slowed down to see if I can relive my youth.

Its much better than The Mission's version but really just on a par with the worst bits of First and Last. Ben Gunn deserves more credit, the Sisters did all their best work when he was in the band.
