Splash the Border Collie Performs the Most Epic of Dog Tricks!

- This is our tribute to Skidboot, an amazing awesome Cattle Dog trained by David Hartwig. In this video we put our own little twist on David and Skidboot's EPIC ball routine. David trained his dog to only get his ball when he said Three and no other number. It was such a clever trick we decided to do it to! Splash the Border Collie is in my opinion one of the most intelligent dogs in the world, so I figured she would pick the trick up quickly. We’ve practiced it for about 4 days and she’s now got it, that she can only get the ball when I say Three. She prefers not to play with the ball on her own at the end but be told what to do with the ball. She also really likes it when I tell her I am going to grab her feet, so that is also part of the reward.

Splash is trained without any forms of physical or psychological intimidation, meaning I never pressure her to have to do anything, I always train her to WANT to do what I want her to do.

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

You can see that Border Collies really LIKE being trained. Most dogs are like, "Okay, but when do I get the treat?"
German shepherds too! They're really high energy and love getting trained,. they're really reliable work dogs
my border collie is dumb asf and she got diabetes so her energy is now like a normal dog lol. but she loves doing tricks and even how stupid she is she leaned many tricks and loves to do them

Awesomeness! My Border Collie used to do "Pretty" too! Only I used to say Pretty & Nice, and he would do what Splash did. :D I miss him. He was the best dog I've ever had.

Oh my gosh...this was awesome and brought a BIG smile to my face the whole time! You are such a gifted trainer Emily! Training is so much fun and rewarding and my Texas Heeler loves it and comes begging for more. When you have such smart dogs they NEED the mental stimulation as well as the physical. The bonus is a great relationship with your dog and friend!

My border collie is pretty good with basic commands like sit, lay, stay, drop it etc but people really get amazed when i make him shake paw and he knows the difference when i say left or right. My wife thinks he's crazy but i seriously may only adopt border collies for here on out. Their focus alone is amazing to witness everyday.

I've watched vids like this with my border mix. he knows a few tricks, his favorite is left/right. He knows the difference but sometimes does the left/right dance. lol When we watch vids like this featuring talented dogs doing all these tricks he will eventually rear back and lay his head on me and look at me as if to say "I would love to do this stuff too but just don't know now."

Yes she does, I spend about 2 mins only training my dogs at day. Its just that I take the time to plan what I train (that takes me probably 10 mins) This is not a training session, its showing all the tricks she learned. Because I use no forms of physical or psychological intimidation, my dogs always have the choice of not training. I feed them their biggest meal for breakfast, and all the toys I train with, are actually all in their environment 24/7 so they enjoy the "playing together" as the reinforcer more than the "toy" itself. I walk my dogs 2 times a day 1 time in the park on leash and the other walk is off leash in the canyons (when its cool and no snakes). I agree long training sessions can be stressful for dogs. Its important to watch out for their signals to tell you they are stressed.
A lot of trainers don't have videos on youtube of their dogs playing, walking, running, and instead have videos of their dogs doing the tricks they have learned. I'm more concerned over the competitions that I see dogs performing amazing tricks if they are getting enough water, if the performances are too long? Some of them seem pretty exerting. Some of the trainers have their dogs in more than one competition which doesn't seem to give the dogs much rest or play time. This video was less than 2 minutes with none of the tricks being strenuous. Smart dog, good training, and if this dog hasn't already they would do great on some of the competition or talent shows.

I could be wrong, but I think that is an Australian Shepherd. I had an Ausssie that looked exactly like Splash:) He was by far the most intelligent I ever saw:) We raced him like the other kids:)
