these books made me open up my mind to creativity, imagination and science fiction. when I was hurting and lonely, I turned to these worlds, these ideas of the future. I dreamed of the stars that maybe I would travel to or see, one day. So early on, I enjoyed Star Trek and read old good science fiction books by A.E. Van voight and Bradbury and Simak and others. I read comic books and played D&D fantasy games. If I could have gone back in a time machine, I would have entered the Air Force. But too late now.

This art was back in a time when we all “looked up” and looked forward and progressing was the most important thing in art/music/ cinema/etc...Now, art of this impact is hanging by a thread as we are all made slaves of consumerism, constantly looking down at peripheral diversionary technological gadgets made to appease our egos, start wars with poor people, and walk around in a state of near rage and violence at the drop of a hat.……Bit the truth is is that there are many still trying to continue in the spirit of art and ideas like those pictured here. You gotta find em though. And means truly looking.

well said, Mind Mesh...welll said. I think that we thought we were doing great in this new age, BUT WE ARE WRONG. We are different kinds of slaves. Consumerism, high taxes, high tech gadgets THAT ARE ONLY FOR distraction and entertainment, not practical things. the separation of the rich and the poor (almost no middle class ) and the anger and hate. Most people don't have the same kind of bright hope they used to be. People had hope that one day, we would have a base on the moon, that we too, could be in space. But no... we can dream as the song says in LES MISERABLES. See , ART LIKE THIS was SUPPOSED to make us think, to reach of inspiration and practice our creativity and plan for the future.

Reminds me of a quote, our current civilization is still nowhere near what these concepts dreamt of over 60 years ago.
“Old Earthers had focused their intelligence on the small and the soft, not the big and the hard, and built a civilization that was puny and crumbling where physical infrastructure was concerned, but astonishingly sophisticated when it came to networked communications and software.”
    ― Neal Stephenson, Seveneves

+Tentacles Many of these illustrations are from The Terran Trade Authority Handbook series by Stewart Cowley: 4 books "Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD", "Starliners", "Spacewreck", "Great Space Battles". The most famous book of the four was "Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD" which I also had when I was a child and still fascinates me. Google them. (Btw you can find copies on Amazon or if you look hard you can find PDF versions of the books. :) U R Welcome

A truly mesmerizing set of futurist imagery here. Reminds me what striking vision Sci Fi artists of the past had when we all thought the future was just around the corner, the future that never came...The future that never will...I'll keep waiting. Meantime, where can we find prints of some of this wonderful artwork? I can't find on Amazon or other sources on the net. Artist names associated with each work would help, thank you!

    • @lukeyznaga7627

your comment is right on, danstan. I wish these visions had came to pass. But alas, the culture and the military and government is intent on hoarding these new hi tech gadgets and inventions for themselves and the CIA. they use it to control us, not to share with us to better our society. Such is man's greed, that he keeps power among his high circle friends and the rich only. Sad.

Where to start, Angus Mckie, Peter Elson, Chris Foss, Jim Burns, John Berkey, etc. etc. I do know that some of them have websites where you can buy prints from. Just search for 60s, 70s, 80s scifi art on Google and Google images. There's a lot on Tumblr as well....

We are but a bunch of know nothing knuckle dragging neanderthals on a ball of dirt in the middle of nowhere...but for these images we see what is, has, and will be.
If it wasn't for our recent history (400 years of 'dark ages') and trillions lost on wars, religion et al we would be exploring the galaxy by now...

Tangerine dream not to your liking? Choose what you want, I just happened to think it worked well given the themes and vintage of the artworks. Rock would make it a bit Dark Starrish IMO. Some Creedance, Led Zep and Pink Floyd perhaps....
