Newfoundland Coyote Hunting 2022: Missed Dog

- Although conditions were quite blustery, I decided to set up and make some calls after getting lots of trail cam photos of coyotes nearby. After starting off with Female Sore Howls and Screaming Grey Fox for most of the stand, nothing had shown. But around the 45 min mark while playing Mrs. McCottontail a coyote appeared from my right. I made two loud barks to stop him but wouldn't do so, I made two shots at him and missed cleanly. Out of the nine years of coyote hunting that's the fourth one I've called in and the only one I actually saw. The first one did a full circle around me, the next two were hung up in the tree line howling and barking refusing to come out and then this one finally stuck its head out! To say I'm rotted is an understatement...

Well buddy it’s hard to hit a moving target but at least you had the opportunity to see one. you will definitely get a chance again I’m seeing a lot of sign it crazy I think we are being over run lol
In some spots there are pockets of them, but the overall population in this province is not like what most people say it is IMO.
@@gibsonrocks212 I’ve seen some big tracks and the was a wolf spotted down Oliver’s RD. I seen a place today where they were eating a moose carcass but I have yet to see one

Remington Model 700 .223, it was a bit windy but I went out anyway. Glad I did lol

Yep, barked twice to make him stop but never worked… came in full bore!
Hang in there ! I see it’s tight cover there but try setting the caller where you can see their approach much better. I’ve also had them run after howling like that, I switched to growling at them, it works. Also shut the caller off before they pinpoint it if it’s still running. I don’t use a decoy anymore as they wouldn’t stop for the shot. Happy hunting to you 😃 !!
