I stumbled on this and am so happy! I just bought the Triton for my Catalina 30 and am waiting on delivery. Believe me, I was probably as excited as you were to see the transducer fit the old thruhull fitting cause I have the same old one!!!!! I have had multiple sleepless at night worrying about this. I was elated when the display came on for you too, I can 100% empathize. I sail on the Chesapeake where depth knowledge is critical and i have had none which freaks me out. This was very inspiring as I can hopefully probably pull this off using your lessons learned. Cheers m8 and happy sailing!!!!!
Great episode. They sure made your B&G install a tough one with that faulty transducer, really pleased for you that you lucked out with the through hull!
You’ll love the triton 2 system. All information with the one dst810 transducer. I opted for the wireless wind sensor package which is very convenient. I later added the vulcan 7 and with its built in gps it shares on the n2k network and the triton 2 mfd displays everything. Hate to hear you got a bad transducer but with any electronics it can be a crapshoot. Looking forward to future videos. Fair winds
@@hiPeeks it has a lithium battery in it. I have had to replace it once. It has a small connection on it i had to transfer to the new battery. No issues other than that.
@@hiPeeks i know i said said vulcan 7 but it was actually the vulcan 12. Same system just the screen was 12” instead of 9 or 7. And I added the 12 bc i got it at a discount rate cheaper than the 7 actually. But if i was to do it all again id still have the 12 with the triton mfd bc i have them set up on different screens so i dont have to toggle one screen for what im looking for. I actually have a spot to add another mfd for the autopilot.
@@hiPeeks if you’re on a budget amd coastal sailing id do the triton 2 with 1 mfd and have an ipad set up for gps and navigation. Whats cool is the vulcan 12 has a wifi network so i can mount ipads or just keep one handy to look at whatever i want through the vulcan wifi. If you have a couple extra grand to throw at some electronics 100% id do lithium first then would come the vulcan system. VEry adaptable. Very intuitive. Excellent interface. Last thing you want to be doing when youre in a bind is plugging away at a chartplotter trying to figure it out.
Lots of practice swapping out the transducer! 😀 It must have been an awesome sense of satisfaction when the unit finally turned on!

How does the wireless wind sensor work? does it power itself using wind to an internal battery or something?

@@Flynghi awesome bro, thanks for info. Would you have just done the Vulcan 7 or 9 instead now that you've added one yourself?

awesome episode! so that transducer came bad straight from west marine? seems strange for a B & G product
Yeah... I guess it happens to one every now and again. So seems right that I was the person to get it. Ha.
