    Great video. Thanks! My old depth sounder crapped out on me. Glad to know that I don't have to lift the boat out of the water to install a new depth sounder.

    Great video, clarified a few questions I had about the Hawkeye, now I'm ready to buy one and have it as backup in case my cranky Airmar fails again.

      Thank you for the kind words, glad I could clarify a few things. I'll be installing another depth finder in a future video, stay tuned.

    Awesome Video! Great call on the 2 part slow cure epoxy- You can also use Petroleum Jelly as the binder when testing!

    Do you know if the hull of your boat is cored? I've read somewhere that in-hull transducer doesn't work on cored hulls. Thank you!

      You are quite welcome! It's held up quite nicely so far. Overall I'm very happy with it.

    Hi, since the depth finder installation is temporary I understand it is not connected to a fuse panel. The inline fuse next to the display is to protect the display itself. If the power wire get pinch anywhere from the battery up to this fuse, it could be a fire hazard. It would be safer to add another inline fuse, within 6 - 12in from the battery, to protect the wire run. Keep posting.

      Thank you for the tip, I will add an extra fuse. Fires are not wanted lol. I will certainly keep posting, thank you for the support!

      Since you brought up the subject of fire... at any time the US Coast Guard or Harbor Patrol could stop by to inspect you 😢 Fire Extinguishers are a basic requirement. I noticed in earlier videos the empty extinguisher mount.

      @@markbowers2558 Hi, I am sailing in Canada and I been ask to show fire extinguisher once in 30 years of sailing. But I will never think of sailing without one ( two actually ). They are the last line of defense against one of the worst possible incident. My two cents.

    Great video! New subscriber. I am in a similar boat (pardon the pun) in that I have a boat that I am just beginning to restore. Its much small but similar condition. Mine is a 1974 Irwin 28. One of the things on my list is a new depth sounder. Thanks for making this video!

    This is the best channel for sailboat restoration I have found! It seems every time I need to do something to my boat - you have a video covering the subject. I bought a Hawkeye DT2B and will be attempting install this weekend. Just a thought... have you considered becoming an Amazon affiliate? if you'd had an Amazon link to the Hawkeye in your video details I would have clicked through to Amazon to buy it. You would have made well deserved commission. Thanks, and keep the excellent videos coming!

      Hi Paul, thank you for the kind words! I feel like I'm just getting started, there is SO much more work to be done. I have not looked into becoming an Amazon affiliate, but now that you mention it, I most definitely will. Thank you for the great advice, any additional money to help this project along would be great, lol. Many many more video to come! Cheers!

    I need to replace my DF, as the display died. I looked at the Hawkeye units at WM; but those were transom mounts?
    I mounted my original transducer in "glassclear" silicone, just in case I needed to reset or remove it later without destroying the sender.
    Best of luck w/your refit

      @ambiguousglobetrotter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul, that Hawkeye can be mounted either on the transom on inside the hull. To mount on the transom you would need to use the bracket that is included with the kit. The silicone is a pretty good choice for mounting as well, hopefully I don't run into too many issues removing the transducer with that epoxy.
      Thank you, best wishes on your project as well.

    I have found that for shi**ty dirty jobs Harbor Freight sanders and grinders work well, don't cost much, and it doesn' hurt as much if they die. Extend the life of your expensive tools.

    • @ambiguousglobetrotter
      @ambiguousglobetrotter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I dread buying tools from Harbor Freight, they break so quickly. It does hurt a lot when an expensive tool like the Milwaukee goes out. That should not be the case for how old it is.

    Anyone order these from Amazon? I had two duds in a row. First one did not read anything right out of the box, and the 2nd died after about 15 minutes. All within a 2 week period. Bad batch maybe? No QC in China where they are manufactured probably.

      @@ambiguousglobetrotter maybe i was just unlucky but 2 in a row seems odd. My wiring is good because my old depth sounder used the same wires and it still works when connected.
