  • Hi and welcome to the channel
    In this video I explain my reasoning behind installing a vapour barrier and the benefits it offers against the effects of thermal bridging

    Hi, did you put the 12v wires on top of vapour barrier ? I’m doing that in my sprinter 😊 new sub

      Hi Sam did you insulate the ribs on the roof?

      @stevewaslin7171 No, I have left all the main structural insulation free. These are already connected to the drain vents in the cils, so if condensation does ever end up these voids, there is air moving around while driving to pull it out

    Hello Sam. Wow! I've been following your channel and your adventures in building your motorhome, I like the simple ingenuity, but well thought out and functional. I live in Brazil, but I spend half the year, the summer, in Portugal.
    I am in the development phase of the project to convert a sprinter 144, low roof, into a motorhome, in Portugal. And in the isolation phase I found this video
    th-cam.com/video/F-N3CMhRQCg/w-d-xo.html
    Could you comment, is it good enough? From my research, the method you did is the most usual.
    What about the stuff called Thinsulate by 3m? it's good?
    A video I would suggest you do would be: WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENT TODAY IN MY CONVERSION, EXPLAINING WHY.
    Thank you, I'm your fan. Hug.

    Dose the foil back on the selotex not seal enough if u barrier tape the joints?

    • @TheCraftyBlindersvanlife
      @TheCraftyBlindersvanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Barry yes it would but not everywhere has celotex so the idea behind the vapour barrier is to completely seal all the areas where the warm moist air from the living area of the van could make contact with the cold steel

      Hi thank you for your reply would you be OK for a personal message on messenger I've been a builder/joiner for a lot of years and due to some life /mental health problems I now live in a van full time half converted in the summer kind regards Barry

    I just did my first week in my van on a trip. It was about 55*F at night and I had condensation on the roof, even with the windows cracked and a fan blowing. So my question is once you have the shell "sealed", it's still going to condensate on the inside of the foil. I see the point of keeping the insulation dry by sealing it but do you just have to get a dehumidifier to eliminate the moisture?

      If your foil is exposed it will attract any moisture in the air due to the difference in temperature as your insulation and air gap between the insulation and vapour barrier if working properly will be cooler or warmer depending on the time of year than the ambient temperature in your van, by adding fabric and materials over the top of the vapour barrier this will bring your surface temperature closer to the ambient temperature leaving the moisture in the air no where to form as condensation, if your seeing condensation on your vapour barrier is doing its job by preventing it forming in the vans cavities, as you build out your van the condensation will disappear, please let me know how you get on with this issue we have a Facebook group with the same name as the channel where we can discuss any issues in greater detail and share your van build progress
