Welcome to this flight review of a TUI Boeing 757 on a flight from Birmingham, UK to Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
TUI have for a long time held the title of the world's largest charter airline and I have many great memories of flying with TUI throughout my childhood. Many of those flights were on-board the beautiful Boeing 757 but the aircraft's days are numbered as TUI modernise the fleet. Does the 757 still have something to offer and how good is the modern TUI experience? On this flight to Palma, Mallorca I hope to find out. Stick around for my final thoughts at the end of the review.

Thanks a lot Blake. The 757 is one of my favorite airplanes. First time was back in 1988 with Air Holland from Faro to Amsterdam. Then with Transavia in 1997 to Madeira and most recently in May with Icelandair from Keflavik to Newark.
Mine too! I have also flown with Icelandair on the 757 from Keflavik to Stockholm last year, the video is on this channel.
Great review Blake. We like TUI a lot and have been regular customers for about 13 years. I’ve been on quite a few 757’s but they seem to have stopped using them on the routes we fly sadly. I remember one trip the pilot pre takeoff when we were running a little behind schedule described it as having “plenty of power” so they would get us there on time 😁
Showing their age now- I really miss the overhead screens that show location and distance travelled.

If you have already booked you should be able to see the seat map which will give you an idea.
I really hope Tui don't retire the 757's. I would honestly love to fly one as a pilot when I'm older.
Sadly it will be happening when the 737MAX starts flying again.
Having recently flown the 757 with TUI, however the cabin was very different to aircraft I was onboard. Not a bad experience, and a pleasure to fly this aircraft. The 757’s with TUI are now down to 2 as of OCT 2021, they will unfortunately be gone from the TUI fleet by 2021. Great review.

Oh Blake you are a treasure! :) the 757 is one dynamite of an airplane,these RB-211 engines spooling up at take-off are unique..Sadly it will be missed..So far only FI, TUI and Jet2 have kept it..and speaking of which have you flown a Jet2 757 with 235 seats to check the difference in economy?..Thanx for the vid ,i like TUI too..They are very professional and attentive.I intend to fly a TUI 757 before they retire them..P.S. They fly regularly to Skiathos ..I suggest you try it (a short island hop to relax) and see upclose and personal the greek St.Martin airport with jetblasting experiences to never forget,esp. when the TUI 757 takes off..Only in Skiathos
A treasure!!! That's very kind of you. I am with you, will certainly miss the 757 when it retires. I have flown Jet2 4 times in the last 12 months so won't be trying them anytime soon but possibly next year.
Titan Airways still have two 757s (G-ZAPX and G-POWH).
757 is the best aircraft,the A321xlr, max 10 etc don't come close to replacing it. 😊

The TUIfly B757 is another plane that I want to fly before it gets retired. To be honest I was thinking about doing this exact same route haha
It was a big contrast between the modern look of the LEDs and the old seats and interiors.
That pizza wrap didn't look really nice, was it tasty at least? :)
Great minds think alike my friend. Hopefully as I said in the video I will fly it again while it is still around. The pizza was not terrible but I wish I had tried the one that you had on Air Europa.

Blake at 4:29 you showed the old inflight entertainment of the 757 did it also have a TV or did you just plug your headphones in (the reason why I asked this question because as a kid I used to play around with them but never knew what it purpose was)
The controls at the seat were to plug headphones in. Some aircraft had tv's in the ceiling plying entertainment and you could enjoy that or listen to music on some flights. Not much choice compared to today's IFE.

Same I love the B757 it was my first ever flight and I was invited into the flight deck upon departure back to the UK due to delays at PMI. Back then, around 9 years ago, I went with Thomas Cook. The B757 or so-called “flying pencil” will always be my favourite. I love the retro style, long body and not to mention the very powerful engines. I hope that the 757 still lives long however I believe only TUI and a small number of Jet2 operate this aircraft during this time in the UK. Thanks.

Due to fly on the 757 from Manchester to Hurghada in a few months, 5 hours out 6 hours back, luckily I'm short so the seat pitch wont be a problem! Interesting to see lack of cleaning, last year and the year before we flew long haul on TUI 787's in premium and the seats, tables and cabin were pretty dirty and quite worn for a relatively new aircraft.
The cleanliness was a bit of a let down especially as this was the aircraft's first flight of the day. That being said any trip on the 757 is wonderful in my book and I hope that you enjoy your trip to Egypt.
@@BlakeEdgington I must admit I do have a soft spot for the 757, back in the 80s as a kid I flew on an Air Europe one to Spain, the plane was pretty much new and these were the days when cockpit visits in flight were allowed and I remember seeing all these screens instead of the normal dials.
@@elliotdavies8815 I had a similar experience as a child flying to the UK on a 767. Probably why I have such a fascination with aviation today.
Loved that review! Need to catch a TUI (hate calling them that) 757 before they go, such an instrumental part of aviation in my life as Britannia taking me on holiday and Thomson during the early years of my aviation career.
Will be a sad day when the aircraft is retired for sure. I still think that the Britannia livery is one of the all time greats.

I do love classic planes like the 757, and it will be sad to see them go from the skies. Dirty cabins definitely are a pet peeve of mine and are one of the few things that can really decrease my enjoyment of a flight. Mallorca looks beautiful, hope you got some time to check it out before the next flight!
I have visited Mallorca on a number of occasions but as is the case with most of my filming days this was a quick stop. I was back in the air 2 hours later.

Glad that you enjoyed it. Yes the 757 is leaving. It was scheduled to start this year but the problems with the 737MAX has delayed it.
I do like TUI and the 757 my last flight on one was G-CPEU (TUI) TO Menorca and back in 2012 this aircraft now flies for a Chinese cargo carrier after a long service with BA, Air 2000, Thomson - TUI and many more which shows how good they are you wont get a 787 or A350 last that long.

A really good video Tui have operated the 757 since around 1985 when they were Britannia . The main reason why the 757's are still in use is they are work horses still powerful & economical on routes such as Dallas to Gatwick and Chicago to Manchester whilst Boeing are still working on the 797 the 757 is still widely favoured by Airlines over the A321 .
Boeing must have done something right as the 757 been around since 1983
The 757 is a superb aircraft and certainly found a niche for airlines. I think that the newer A321LR will become the long term replacement.
I had the wrap on easyJet it was nice
I will give it a try on my next EasyJet trip.

I’ve just done a similar trip but on Ryanair and then back with Jet2.
Having not flown TUI or Thomas Cook in a good few years I’d probably favour Jet2 but think I may need to give TUI a go. Shame we don’t get those 757s in NCL any more

I'm a regular TUI flyer short haul and long haul. Personally I don't they're bad at all. I prefer to fly them short haul than long haul though. I've just came back from Palma as well for the second time. The first time I flew with TUI but this time I flew with Thomas Cook.
They're both good however I feel that Thomas Cook is more catering than TUI.
If I had to choose between the two I prefer TUI myself. I hope that you enjoyed your visit to Mallorca.

Sad to see Monarchs big check in area now all blue but glad its in use. Also Monarch still around at BHX for sure! In the video, saw the x2 Olympus hybrids (ops for TUI) and a Thomas Cook hybrid. Great to still have the livery around. You know what my favourite leisure airline is, Thomas Cook but you knew I was going to say that! One thing I can say, Thomas Cooks aircraft are always spotless, shame your 757 was a little dirty...

Tell you what I’m desperate to fly on this summer before they go back of lease, one of the Olympus Airways A321’s in the Hybrid Monarch livery and they’ve still got the Monarch interior. Just not sure what routes TUI are using them on. Did you like the look of them?
The look like Monarch so it put a smile on my face for sure.
My favourite would be thomas cook. It was the first airline I went on! And it was also a A321! I just hope thomas cook dont end up like monarch... my best flight was the A321to majorca! I have flown on a 757! Your right, they are Brill! Thanks. 😁✅🖐🏻

Agree with you about the nostalgia you can get. Unfortunately both of the ones that would have done it for me (other than Thompson - so TUI I guess!) would be Britannia and Air2000, both distant memories now!

The 737-800 is perfectly safe and I am sure you will have a great flight. As some others have commented the 737 MAX is the aircraft with issues at the moment and they are all grounded.

TUI plan to retire the 757 fleet which should have already started. The issues with the 737MAX that will replace them have delayed this.
How do you mean and why the 757 aircraft?
I was rather a fan of Monarch and would frequently fly the to Gibraltar. I’ve never flown with TUI. I liked Jet 2, but found their staff inattentive. I’ve only ever flown from Birmingham once. It’s a nice small airport without the chaos of Heathrow. That said, I’m surprised they’re not served by more trans Atlantic routes. Thank you for your great content. I’ve been a subscriber for a while, but this is the first time I’ve commented. Take care!

The trusty 757. I'm not a fan of leisure airlines but TUI would be the one for me if I had to choose.
Any airline still flying the 757 is a winner in my book.
You always seem to be on the older aircraft! Most of our 757s have newer cabins and different seats
I will have to try again at some point but it was pretty comfortable overall.

How did package holidays never really become popular outside Europe?
I can't really speak for popularity elsewhere but there is certainly still a healthy demand from UK travellers. I myself enjoyed a package holiday 2 years ago and would do it again for sure

I love the sound of a 75 in the morning!! Sadly that was interrupted by music on take off. The 757 although getting on now is far superior to many of the more modern aircraft, with the RR E4 engines it has the best thrust to weight ratio of any commercial aircraft. You might like to know that when BA first introduced them on its shuttle routes it carried 190 pax with a seat pitch of 34 inches. 29 in, is the average now which unless you are around 5.4 is very tight indeed. The cleanliness of most aircraft is woeful once again down to the airlines sub contracting their cleaning services out which means sub standard standards as seen here.

Never been on a 757 some of jet2's are up to 30 years old! but retiring this year I think, I agree with you on monarch great airline let down by poor business model tried to compete with easyjet when they should have copied jet2/tui for example I was on one of their last flights out and had a rescue flight back courtesy of Airtransat.
Monarch's demise was very sad and I know people who worked for them and of course lost their jobs.

You do have a point, there are many similarities on short haul travel today.
Ha. I literally had that same pizza rap got it on my flight from menorca to Stansted everthing was the same onboard TUI cafe offers food drinks but out flight was ment to be done by there max as we all know that's not happening at the moment with good reason we had a titan Airbus A320.
How was the Titan aircraft?
@@BlakeEdgington was alright I think the seats are a bit smaller on the Airbus A320 never very had titan before we dident book with them just had there aircraft it was a TUI Hoilday. There were 4 crew two titan and two TUI crew. Titan have gray TUI blue didn't see the two tui crew during flight because there were at the rear galley titan crew had the front we had just the 3rd row so got a good view of the cockpit while we were on ground obviously kept shut during flight and locked witch is nice to know 😂
DJ K Footer back when I was cabin crew, I was a Flybe rep on a Titan flight operating on behalf of my airline. On the 757, great experience.
Do you ever have any problems with filming at the airports because some staff and just everywhere are so concerned about what people are filming for you know..
I have been challenged twice. Once in Dublin and once in Edinburgh. I just try to avoid filming security etc.
The Dreamliner is probabbly the best designed with TUI

The interior of TUI is quite boring on all their aircraft compared to Jet2 etc...
Some of the newer jets in the fleet are stunning. They just don’t have as much advertising in the cabin as Jet2
