This piece of music moves one's soul. I hear it and I cry, every single time, as I cry now. It was DeNiro's finest hour - it was everyone's finest hour in the movie. The movie destroys me every time I watch it. It is one of the best movies ever made.
I watch it about every 2 months, it reminds me of my best friend who I knew since the end of 8th grade. We went to High School together and both went to serve our country. He took his life 2 years ago, at the age of 25. I love how raw and in depth every single scene and character is. From having someone so close they're like a brother to you, to serving your country and to losing someone who took his own life, when I found this movie I had no idea what ride I was in for. It is my all time favorite. I think everyone should watch this movie. This scene in particular, I relate to it so much. I often feel overwhelmed with life and the hustle and bustle. When I finally get home, and unwind, it's hard to do so because so much is on your mind. You feel so exhausted. Whenever I miss my bestfriend, I watch this movie. He was always so well read and very intelligent. I always wonder if he ever watched this movie. I'll never know. Bittersweet for sure.
Watching my Uncle after he returned from Vietnam...many have criticized this movie's war events as contrived....but I can tell you honestly...the soul searching anguish of trying to return and fit in to some type of "normal" for a Veteran like my Uncle... is so perfectly captured here by Robert De Niro.
Oh oui!

This movie was so well acted, great actors great scene s that required the intense of emotion what more can you ask for. These days people don't pay any attension to these older movies, but this movie is as real as it gets.
One of my all-time favorite De Niro movies. His emotions run the gammit from serious, to soulful, protective, to finally coming to terms with the deer on the last hunting trip. Great music score.
While I do like seeing it in black and white. Thank you for that. Nice. The color of that military uniform green is pretty nice too. Great to see two versions.
This has to be my favorite Robert De Niro film and performance ever. Not saying Casino and Goodfellas was bad far from it but.. maybe somehow the emotions hit me in Deer Hunter im not so sure.. especially the ending.. that Russian Roulette scene hits hard. I can see it all and I felt it.. it never leaves me.. its so powerful you can't escape it..
PTSD I think is similar to C-PTSD in its outward expression of trauma; a long prolonged series of increasingly intolerable events. Sending love, positive energy and friendship to anyone out there affected by either of these…💙🌍❤️🌎💙🌏❤️ There is always hope and to give to the world as and when you can, not only saves others, but saves our selfs in the process. “Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.” (Itzhak Stern, Schindler’s List) 👉❤👈
God has blessed us with Robert De Niro. In less than a minute he sums up what many war veterans struggle with in returning home with everything pounding in their brain.
A movie not well appreciated or understood like the time it was based on. We may not like the actors now for their views but this is still a visceral and beautiful expression of humanity through horror.
WHAT DO THEIR VIEWS HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? I APPLAUD DE NIRO FOR HIS COMMENTS ON TRUMP.......AND I DESPISE ANYONE WHO HATES HIM FOR IT. ESPECIALLY FELLOW ITALIANS.
I found this scene to disturbing to watch. It made me think of my dad who was a Vietnam veteran. He had a lot of emotional problems when he returned home. The war took him from me in the form of an illness caused by a drug and alcohol addiction followed by his exposure to the Agent Orange.
That's all of us. At the end of the day you take off the things you can remove and are left with the things that you can't even if you tried. Naked and bare with what and who you are.
Great scene...the only thing that bothers me is the facial hair on Deniros character...as an Army veteran I'm quite sure he wouldn't be returning stateside with a full goatee
I agree and I'll go further: The whole movie is just outstandingly bad, to anybody who lived through the events of the time. I mean the whole story just doesn't have any link to reality. As a tour of emotions or maybe as a dream it makes sense, but as a coherent story about things that happened or that maybe even might have happened, it's so fantastic, over-the-top, and just plain divorced from reality that it stinks. Everybody goes on about how it's a masterpiece, to me it's like some UCLA film student project put together by an 18 year old with no experience of the real world.
One of my favorites. Returning from the Vietnam era serving with the 82nd, 5th SF and 7th Inf till '78 my job was that of patrolling the jungles completing missions and returning home all mixed up amid the conflicts of young democrats. My favorite actor turning against the republican machine of Trump told me he was definitely no soldier. So disappointing.
I have to agree with you. I like Robert DiNiro as an actor, I don't like him as a political person. But, I can look past his politics and appreciate him as a great actor. I don't have to like 100% of him to appreciate him as a great actor.
Oh, man how I love this scene: no special effects, no explosions, no profanity; just anguish and soul searching.
GOD BLES OUR SOLDIERS
It’s a masterclass, pretty much everything you need to know about acting is in that scene. Pure undiluted truth
How did he not win the Oscar that year. A truly great actor at his peak
I agree.Robert De Niro is the best!!!
One of my favorite songs from a film and one of my favorite senses. The music was tender and perfect for this moving scene.

PTSD of epic proportions.
The effects of love ,war and loss played brilliantly by De Niro .
