My GSX-S1000 is by no means overkill. The extra power I am getting over my previous street bike, GSX-S750, at relatively the same weight, is great and actually leads me to run at a more relaxed pace. The S1000 electronics make it easier to ride. I don't feel the need to run it hard and find it comfortable keeping it to the 5000 RPM range. Granted, this is not the GSXR but my S still packs 150 HP. All depends on what you are expecting from your bike.
Nice Bike you‘ve got there. In certain areas those superbikes are definitely overkill but sometimes it‘s just nice to know that there‘s a lot of power available without having to use it all of the time. And also, just like you said in the video, there’s nothing better looking than a 1000cc superbike!
Well after owning a ZX14R and ZH2 I can say yes they are over kill, FUN, just too much. On the other hand, It really depends on where you live. I see in your parts, yall would get your license revoked in a situation where we may get a warning. Like my recent incident, wheelie and 100mph in front of a cop in a 65mph zone. He just told me to slow down and didn't even issue a warning citation, just a simple SLOW DOWN. Where I live I had and took advantage of certain areas where me and a buddy could top out our ZX14's and there are many areas. So yeah, too much. I found I have more fun on my dirt bikes and ADV bikes anyway, at a much slower speed too.
Haha wheelie and 100mph here would land you potential prison time, no joke! At the minimum, you'd have your bike impounded and huge fines. Agreed, the dirt is where the most fun can be had!
@@AusMoto whoa! In jail! Impounded! That’s crazy. I see why those people you talked to said they only track ride because, as you mentioned, it takes a lot of self control to keep a lid on those beasts.
I used to commute on Belgrave-Gembrook road every day, I considered myself very lucky to live up in those hills. Always took the long way home…. I would love an MT10SP but I don’t have the room for another bike…..
I have a heap of bikes over the years and its harder than ever to use any reasonable motorcycle on the road without getter in trouble, in saying that i have a 2008 vfr800 which sounds great with some pipes on it and is still fast enough when the revs are up and a 2008 Yamaha fz1n with 150hp of goodness for being silly. The fz1n is hugely fun and pretty relaxed due to torque and the upright riding position. Large capacity bikes still rule
Road overkill? NO. I am now 72 and have owned an 2008 Honda CBR1000RR since new. For 20 years I have ridden Sydney to Phillip Island for both GP and supers. Set up correctly they are a great touring bike. They are just a docile machine dependent on your twist of the throttle. Not many young guys into bikes anymore. More interested in computers.
I haven't tried a 1000cc bike yet, but I have tried several in the 600cc class. I currently have two low-powered motorcycles (Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and a Honda CRF 300 L), as I really enjoy riding slow bikes "fast". In other words, enjoying the countryside and gaining off-road experience in a relaxed way. A motorcycle that is too fast would only tempt me into stupidity on public roads. Too many car drivers don't pay attention to traffic these days, especially not to motorcyclists, as there are fewer of them. And as a motorcyclist you always have to think for everyone else, because basically everyone on the road is trying to kill you, if you exaggerate. In addition, many public roads are simply in a poor condition (ruts, potholes, sand/stones/dirt on the road) to be able to ride there safely with a faster machine. You never know what's waiting for you around the next corner. But I'm thinking about getting a motorcycle with more displacement one day, simply to have more torque and to be able to ride more relaxed on highways if necessary. Even a big chopper or touring bike would be fine with me. I'm not interested in the top speed per se, but rather the usable power delivery with a "normal" riding style.
Modern litre bikes are too expensive for the younger riders to buy, and the older riders can't contort into the riding positions anymore. I've had a few spins on 1000cc and larger sportsbikes, they are utterly intoxicating, but like you say, you can get an instant ban in the UK in 1st gear... and with potholes everywhere in the UK, they are just pretty pointless here. I'm glad they exist, but will stick with my sub 1000cc bikes I think.
@@AusMoto The worst bike I have ever owned was a Ducati 1098 Streetfighter S, it handled so badly from new, even after getting the suspension set up... but the engine was an absolute beast... soooo fast..... but I could get through my favourite set of twisties faster on a 600. That was a bad example as it didn't handle that great though lol
I grew up in the N.T. and my first bike after a trail bike was a K1 Honda 750 4 back in 1970, Couldn't get it to go faster than 130mph- 209 kmh, your face feels like it is being blasted off at that speed with a half face helmet. Back then in the Territory there was no maximum speed limit so you could legally go as fast as you wanted. But a 1000cc would even be overkill up there.
That's bloody awesome! Wish there was somewhere with no speed limit to truly experience the top speed of this beast, can't even reach top speed on the track!
I don't need this kind of negativity in my life!!!! j/k my most fun roadbikes to ride were my Honda VTR1000F and my Honda VFR750F, both just over 100rwhp, both with a fat bag of torque right where it was needed.
I think you’ll find guys aren’t doing TH-cam videos on them now because of filming themselves breaking the law. I’m no lawyer, but does blacking out the speedo clear you in court when your clearly doing more then the speed limit? Cops can book you if “they determined” you were going too fast. And secondly you said it, why tear around a track twice a year and then be stuck in 2nd on public roads and it sits in the garage the rest of the year. Waste of a bike imo. But they all speed, even the wr with the right gearing lol
Compare a 1000cc, a 400cc and a 125cc bike all ridden the same way over a period of 5 years... which engine is going to be the closest to "totally f--ked"? Are they overkill??? Never and no one should ever promote them as such. Are they over priced??? Hell yeah. If they were reasonably priced they would be everywhere.

Yeah, I reckon the naked bikes with their extra torque and better comfort make for much better road bikes!
I am thinking about swapping my GSX 8S for one. Certainly more power than I could use legally or safely where I live. Still tempted.
@@paulconnell1309 I considered the 800 V-Stom but decided that I might regret not going for the 1000GT. I am glad that I did.

That's awesome as and the MT10SP would make an awesome street bike, so much useable torque!

Both of those would definitely make awesome road/street bikes!
I’ve always believed 100rwhp is the magic mark for a daily.
100%, around 100hp with a good amount of torque is perfect for the street!

Yeah, it's a shame they're not as popular as they once were, incredible machines!
Absolutely they are but that makes them so much fun 😂 Ive got a FTR1200 and that torque and acceleration just makes me smile 😊
Yep, nothing like cracking the throttle on the big bikes!
