An excellent cover. Each individual band member makes their own contribution to the song and that helps make the song excellent. I have listened to it hundreds of times over the years and I never get tired of it. The Power Station was one of the greatest Super Groups of all time.

Back in 1985, the boomers could not stop hating on this song. Oh, how dare they soil the legacy of T. Rex blah blah blah. But this is actually the best kind of remake: the sort that doesn't reproduce the original, but takes it in a new direction. It's bold and audacious, and the Power Station themselves were top notch musicians. Tony Thompson had few equals on the skins, John Taylor was and is an amazing bassist, Andy Taylor rocks, and little need be said of Robert Palmer's vocal prowess. And man oh man did they give this one a kickass intro!
The Power Station takes you by brute force from the first Tony Thompson strike and doesn't let go. Crank it and rock on people! Massive Tony Thompson fan .. RIP man. RIP Robert.

@@endcensorship874 I too was an 80's kid. I was blessed to have met him a few times. When Chic hit it big, Tony Thompson was young. I think he was the age of my sister who was 20 at the time. I was 10 when she and I met C hic. Have many records he played on like Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, David Bowie's Serious Moonlight Tour, Madonna's Like A Virgin sessions and the above mentioned Power Station just to name a few. I saw The Power Station 4 times on that tour. Each time zone had a different opening act. The last time was a Live Aid in Philadelphia. My girlfriend and I were backstage serving drinks. She was 18 and was serving alcohol I was 17 and serving soft drinks. I saw Thompson's two performances. The Page/ Plant performance was on point. I'm a big fan of Phil Collins, but that wasn't one of his best performances. He was a last minute addition and was not quite ready. Thompson was chosen by Page and Plant because he knew the drum parts verbatim. Sadly kidney disease took him at 47 or 48. It was discovered too late. I I myself was struck with kidney disease at 48, but I was fortunate. I recieved my kidney last year, after battling for 5 years. Tony Thompson had so much music to offer. Gone way too soon!

One of my fave 70s pop-rock tunes done in 80s pop-metal fashion. The original was subtle, seething sexuality, this version unabashedly in-your-face. Covers of iconic songs rarely live up to the original, but this one does. Same tune, different delivery, equally sensual.

An excellent cover. Each individual band member makes their own contribution to the song and that helps make the song excellent. I have listened to it hundreds of times over the years and I never get tired of it. The Power Station was one of the greatest Super Groups of all time.
Thank you for your comment! I completely agree with you that each member of The Power Station brings something unique to the song, just like how the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series offers versatile power solutions for outdoor enthusiasts. It's great to hear that you never get tired of the song, and I believe you'll have a similar experience with the reliable and powerful Cube Series from Segway. It's definitely worth considering for your outdoor adventures and home backup power needs. Happy camping!
GZus, John never looked hotter...whew!!
Need this today
Ultra cool Robert Palmer, the talented Taylor's and one helluva drummer.
I love the 80's.
Not JT's fault he was blessed with super looks....guy is a beast on bass
He's ONE 🔥 HOT man! Always💋💋💋
I was straight in love with that lanky bastard
@@RubySlippers1100 mmmsí... Se ve bellísimo como sea y como siempre!
Oh Lord i loved john taylor- he was my favorite from duran duran 😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
The Power Station takes you by brute force from the first Tony Thompson strike and doesn't let go. Crank it and rock on people! Massive Tony Thompson fan .. RIP man. RIP Robert.
Tony Thompson was the best dam drummer there was in my time...RIP! From Chic to the power station He played hard.
+Jar McNally you mean in your opinion... he wasn't the best
i said in my time and i meant he was my favorite.
Jar McNally my time means my generation, an era...and you said he was the best.
+Jar McNally He was also capable of softer groove, he is the drummer on Sheila B. Devotion's Spacer :)
+Jar McNally He could have given Benny "Papa Zita" Benjamin Motown Funk Brother a run for his Money. How come Andy Taylor didn't rejoin Duran Duran.
The best remake of Bang A Gong to date.
Yes as much as i love the original this is a worthy rival
Hell yeah
Grew up with the original, this version is better IMO
@@markabendroth1774 It's the beginning which really revs me up. That "Hoo! Hoo!" thing. The original didn't have that.
The only one that matters
This makes one realize that Duran Duran had some top notch musicisans in that band one of my top 20 alltime listen to songs
Thanks to Power Station, John Taylor finally shows how good is to play the bass, that he was beautiful, it was already known.
ok
Most if not all his bass licks with Duran Duran were brilliant.
You need to hear the baseline to Rio and realize he didn’t need Powerstation to show how good he was.
you're joking. He was amazing since the beginning of Duran Duran in 1981 and he is still now so great
Shit I knew that the first time I heard "Rio".
Oh I always had a thing for Robert Palmer, so sad he passed away, love, love his music!!!
The best!
That drummer beat them drums like they were talking some mad shit about his momma.
That was Tony Thompson for sure m
@@navblue20 The late Tony Thompson played like that naturally and was a big fan of John Bonham. That's why he was chosen to play with Page and Plant at Live Aid. Sad that both Robert Palmer and Tony Thompson have passed away.
As an 80s kid and a drummer, Tony Thompson was who I wanted to play like, sound like, look like. But I could never be that cool. And I’m too white! He will always be my all time favorite drummer. God rest his beloved soul.
@@seanswinton6242 Thanks for sharing such an awesome story! That sounds like an epic time. Glad you are doing well, and yes... Tony was gone too soon. Never got his due, except among those who knew about him. Glad you got to meet him. Take care, my brother whom I have never met!
Hell of a drummer!
The one and only late Tony Thompson... He has the ultimate 80's rock beat
It would have been great to see him with Led Zepplin as was planned before his car accident ended that opportunity. Loved what he did for Bowie on the Let's Dance album as well.. RIP Tony your talent is missed..
Stuart Richards tony Thompson
F yes!!
CL Louis He was supposed to drum for Zepplin!? that would have been so cool
You have to play this song LOUD...there is no other option!
🤣agree
Oh God !!!! It has guitar, drums, back vocals, lyrics and an engaging swing. What's wrong with today's music. Real music .... I love it !!!!!!
everything now is auto tuned....
I don't always listen to The Power Station, but when I do the whole neighborhood does as well.
😂 right on!
I wouldn't mind living in your neighborhood! I could listen to them all the time!
@@JenX_1973 I'll forward you some property that's up for sale
I don't always listen to Power Station but when I do I bang a gong
@@blackthrne6976 Sounds good to me!
One of my fave 70s pop-rock tunes done in 80s pop-metal fashion. The original was subtle, seething sexuality, this version unabashedly in-your-face. Covers of iconic songs rarely live up to the original, but this one does. Same tune, different delivery, equally sensual.
This video brings back great memories watching MTV back in the 80s. Loved this group!
Danny Crout yes. I remember them. Robert Palmer and Tony Thompson were class acts. Damn tight drummer.
Avatarblackwolf exactly!! Loved MTV!😎
Me too!
damn right mtv isint the same it sucks now all they have is crappy reality shows and that keeping up with the kardasian crap on tv as well cant stand that stuff 90s turned mtv to shit when real world got introduced i heard vh1 is headed the same way to they need to bring the real mtv back if they had a time machine id hop on it and go back to that decade
That album was SO DAMN bad ass. I jam it to this day.
I loaded this shit up on Spotify yesterday along with a few Duran Duran tunes sprinkled in some Arcadia as well
Same. Their second album was pretty good too.
🎧✨Megagenial un 2024 super 🇬🇹
The Power Station
Geniales!
Magistral la batería 😀👌✨🎧
As soon as the drums come in...goosebumps! Black, white, blue, polka dotted, there's no WAY you can resist this damn song!! RIP Tony Thompson and Robert Palmer. There was only ONE Power Station...can't duplicate this chemistry!
Thompson is KILLING it in this song, No One plays like this anymore!!!
Tony beats the drums like they owe him money
Hahahahahaa
Bought the tape since I was a Duran Duran fan back then. This band was waaaaaaay before it's time! This song tho....F yeah!! 🤘🤘🤘
Love Robert Palmers vocals in this song. Hope Andy Taylor is doing well since his diagnosis. Take care🌸
ONLY Tony Thompson can make those drums speak like that!!! No one played HARDER!!! R.I.P. 🙏🏿
As a young teenager when this song first came out I was obsessed. Love the crunch of this interpretation. Brilliant. Palmer: Awesome! Taylors: awesome! Tony: Awesome!
This was a great cover. They definitely made this one their own.
Absolutely!!!
RIP Robert Palmer. That drummer is badass. Love the solid snare hits.
Damn right that drummer was badass! That's Mr. Tony Thompson, son. One of rock's all-time best drummers.
That poor hi-hat😂that groove was deep and heavy! Badass
@@tateyambrose7290 One of FUNK'S all time best drummers......................
Robert Palmer’s shoe laces have more talent than most of today’s “singers”.
So true. I laughed so hard at that comment.
Totally love Robert Palmers voice and Tony Thompson made those drums sound like a beating heart in rhythm, Andy great guitar player and very underrated, R.I.P. Tony and Robert
No mention of John Taylor? Shame on you!!! 💕
@@jeanniecyphert2942 oops! I apologize John
Robert Palmer a class act .
Mr. Suave
The loss of Robert Palmer was a major blow to the music world.
So was drummer Tony Thompson.
guitar is killer . the whole song ,they nailed it
Great cover. Liked it better than the original. whole album was very good.
I like parts of it, but the mix is a little scattered, as is the arrangement. I definitely come back to it every time I listen to the original also.
fucking great awesome song. Best cover ever! Palmer's vocals sell it big time. The drummer and guitar work demonstrate how Rock and Roll is supposed to sound
u do knw this a remake of a 60's song,, Bang a gong by T-rex,,,, Mar brolin, yes he is Josh brolin, the actor's dad,
Andy Taylor (clapping 1000x's over). Gotta blast this song to get the full effect
Fell in love with John Taylor with Duran Duran... became OBSESSED with him in Power Station... he's still BEAUTIFUL till this day.
Best Cover ever. Guitar tone cuts right through, the mid-range melodic bass line, the heavy-handed drums and Robert's smooth vocals. Even some edgy humor for the time with John checking himself out in Drag at the end.
this is a great example of balance within a song. each of the members' talents was showcased as much as possible without making the song sound bad nor a bunch of solos. they really worked well together. rip tony and robert
Is this possibly one of the most underrated songs of the 80s. Because I only heard this the other day on Now 5(UK) and totally fell in love with this song and didn't know that the lead singer is Robert Palmer
Why? Where have you been???
@@jeanniecyphert2942 I was born in the 90s so wouldn't of heard this
One of the best covers ever. The intro is killer.
I put the volume up all the way ,thats the only way.
Hell yeah
The best of the 80's
....cant get the volume up high enough!
