Convert Cisco Access Point from Lightweight to Autonomous / Standalone

Step by Step Process Converting Cisco Aironet 3600 Series Access Point from Lightweight to Autonomous version.
Requirements:
1.TFTPd64 Server
2.Cisco IOS Software AP3G2-K9W7-M for (C3600 Series AP)
3.The Cisco AP and the Laptop with TFTP server must be in same network.
According to my network setup
Lightweight AP BVI1 IP address is 192.168.1.4
Laptop's IP address where TFTP server is installed 192.168.1.7 [Default Router IP]
First disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AP then Press the Mode button and Put back the Ethernet cable to the AP and hold the Mode button Until flash light turns to umber and Once the Lightweight AP goes to online then apply the following commands to convert it to Autonomous version:
set IP_ADDR 192.168.1.4 [According to my network setup]
set NETMASK 255.255.255.0 [According to my network setup]
set DEFAULT_ROUTER 192.168.1.7 [According to my network setup]
tftp_init
ether_init
flash_init
tar -xtract tftp://192.168.1.7/ap3g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JH.tar flash:
dir flash
set boot flash:/ap3g2-k9w7-mx.153-3.JH/ap3g2-k9w7-mx.153-3.JH

I used this video in combination with one other video and got it to work on a 3702 AP. I ran into some issues after I got the file downloaded to the AP from my TFTP server, it kept booting the K9w8 image, so I ended up formatting the drive and then downloading the file to the AP again. That way since it was the only OS on the drive there was no confusion. Finally got this thing converted to an Autonomous AP. Thank you so much, this video is gold.

p.s - flash file also worked for 1700 series ap
Works, but I have to suggest something to Linux users. Use Screen instead of Putty and use a PC with a serial port built-in or a USB dongle that is on Amazon ( it will save you some headaches when connecting to the AP). Also don't forget to format 'flash:' because if you have another firmware installed that is more updated it will defaults loading the one with a higher version number.

How does the Home Router comes into play here? Why would I need the router when I can just plug directly into the PoE injector and from the injector into the AP with both devices statically configured. Why not do it that way?

I followed the steps shown in the video, but when I type "format flash:" ("AP64f6.9d00.9870 # format flash:") it fails "% Invalid input detected at '^' marker." The '^' character points to the "o" of the "format flash:" command line. Please show me what to do? Thank you very much
I had the same issue. This command cleared it for me:
delete /recursive /force flash:

With some very minor tweaks I used this to flash my 2702i to autonomous. Minor like the formatting of the flash, otherwise this was perfect.

DO NOT FORGET TO TURN OFF WINDOWS FIREWALL

I got a used Cisco AIR LAP-1042N-N-K9, and i followed what you told, but when i open the listed COM port in putty, nothing happens, all i get is blank screen, can you plz help...
putty shows ap: show_ether shows interface is up, however not able to pin the IP from other devices

I cannot succesfully load the firmware via tftp...i guess it could be a reachability issue.
One question: when the AP is in ROM mode, is it able to respond to the ping? Because if i ping it from the tftp server i receive no response...

(AIR-AP1832I-C-K9) Connected console port, press mode button, power up the AP, release the mode button after 23 sec, all is doing well but AP name is not changing. Means may be, there have some another issue. So, can you help to reset it completely as default?

I don't think you need the poe injector because your home router is already poe.
