I went off the pill 3 years ago and experienced this exact same thing. First of all, huge shoutout to you for being so open about your acne journey because I know it’s not an easy thing to do. It looks like you’re on the right track though - healing from the inside out! Also - you’re right. Skincare products really aren’t the solution for hormonal acne so there’s no point in trying a million different products for it something that can’t be healed from topical treatments. However for helping pigmentation, I encourage you to use a gentle toner with centella asiatica extract helped A TON and then after your moisturizer using a little bit of rosehip oil (before bed) helps face the scars as well. Also wearing sun cream before applying makeup helps heal scars 5x quicker than if you’re not using a sun cream (wanted to share that fact because I had no idea until recently!). Best of luck and do keep us updated ❤️

Embarrassed to say I haven’t been wearing sunscreen! So I did just start this week. I think it should make a big difference!

Is there a sunscreen that either of you would recommend? I also haven’t really used sunscreen as often I should and I don’t even know where to start since I struggle with acne as well

Totally relate to you, know that you aren’t alone! I’ve been on and off the pill for almost 10 years now and I truly believe that my adult acne is all hormonal. I’ll be 25 in June and still get terrible breakouts on my cheeks and chin with my cycle. I know how depressing it can feel when you believe you’re the only one you know your age dealing with this!! Just keep sticking on the right track by healing your body from the inside out! I’ve been using retinol nightly and nicinamide in the day time with a sunscreen and I’ve noticed pretty significant differences in my scarring on my cheeks. I’m no where near where I want my skin to be but it all takes time. ❤️

Girl I feel you!! Got my first acne breakout when I was 12….I’m now 34 and the breakouts are still going strong!! Think I would be a completely different person if acne hadn’t affected my life so much!!

Once again, thank you for being so open and honest!! Too often people don’t share or talk about these types of struggles even though so many of us have gone through or are currently dealing with them.
I have also been doing a much more simple routine and using a facial streamer with distilled water x2 a week. I’m also using a rose hip seed oil as well as a vitamin e oil for hyperpigmentation.
    Good luck with your journey!!

Totally relate about having acne. I thought it would be something that would go away when I got older but it never did. Finding the community of dermatologists online really helped me. I realized I was just taking advice from random people with no real professional experience when it comes to skin so once I found dermatologists it’s been so life changing to know that their recommendations are backed up with research and years of experience.

Brush, floss, listerine. Ensure your humidity levels in your room are normal. Water intake. Careful chemicals you use on your skin. Check AQI in your area. Car AC produces bacteria and mold if not disinfect once in while. Etc.

Hey Natalie! Hypoglycemia, (low blood sugar), is a huge problem of mine...so I understand what you are saying. If you DO feel tired/shaky/hungry, a good rule of thumb is to consumer 15 grams of fast acting carbs, (i.e. orange juice, dried fruit, glucose gel pack, etc.), and then wait 10-15 min and see how you feel. If you still feel poorly have a bit more. I take a gel pack each morning after exercise just to be sure to keep my levels up...feel so much better. Great video! xoxo

as a pharmacist, I think it's important to mention a few things about vitamin supplementation:
    1. contrary to popular belief and marketing, most people don't need to take any vitamins. they are only beneficial in those who are deficient and can even be HARMFUL if taken in people without deficiencies.
    2. if you are deficient, it is best to mitigate that by first making changes in diet (if possible, of course)
    3. if you do decide to take over-the-counter herbal and dietary supplements....talk to your doctor about it! "all-natural = safe and better" is a myth fed to the population by the beauty/pharmaceutical industry. most actually have adverse effects and may even have significant drug interactions with prescription drugs (such as reducing the efficacy of oral contraceptives, antidepressants, anticoagulants, etc.)
    4. finally, look for USP verified supplements- they are rigorously tested for safety and potency. since all vitamins are not regulated by the FDA, this is the only way to ensure what you are taking is safe!

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I'm a medical doctor in Italy and I follow many American TH-camrs. It's definitely a huge business in the USA, here in Italy it's not like that. We have universal healthcare and when people have a problem they go see their doctor! In USA people try to fix their health issues on their own and believe every new health trend...it's just marketing and it's harmful! Spend those money to go see a great doctor instead and check your blood, trust science!

I also tried to go off it in college one time and broke out HORRIBLY. The tips you offer are really helpful and so relatable. You’re also beautiful! I wish you the best in your healing journey ❤️

i’ve also been struggling with the same thing for the past year, so i decided to go on birth control, which has definitely helped, but like you said it’s just a temporary solution. i’ve also noticed that my skin is worse in the winter than the summer because it gets SO dry. but i’ve heard that supplements like zinc, milk thistle and vitamin e can help your skin.

Indole 3 carbinol is something that helped me really fast with hormonal acne. Cruciferous veggies usually contain this, but it’s available in pill form. There was a viral Reddit post a while back. It really works - I think by removing excess estrogen from your body. But better to consult your doctor about it - for those who are interested. Also, upping on healthy fats, especially coconut oil helped me, as well as reducing sugars and carbs in general. I’m off the pill for years now and have pretty clear skin. 💕

Natalie, have you tried Differine (Adapalene)? I have been using it for years and it works really well for such a low price tag. It takes some time, it will peel your skin at first and then your complexion will adapt the more you use it. As you live in Florida for the most part, use it only before you go to bed. Also probiotics and primrose oil (in any form), 15mg zinc per day (chelated form is the best) will work for you, zinc will decrease the oiliness. It will get better with time, try to focus on other things and never touch your face with or without make up is also a must.

You are definitely not alone, and I am with you on the zoom video. I have the full smoothing on mine and if I don't have some kind of foundation or concealer on, I won't go on. I also run with groups and have had to wear some kind of makeup on all runs (and I'm talking even like 20+ miles) bc I'm self conscious about it. Anyway, on the boat and water thing, ColorScience makes a really good mineral sunscreen that also provides coverage. I have worn it for 100K races (so like hours upon hours out on trails) and it holds up really well.

    Hi Natalie,
I’ve been on the pill, antibiotics everything you could think of that’s accessible. Nothing seemed to keep the acne at bay.
I’ve recently found a topical ointment that actually helps with speeding up the clearing of cystic acne - it’s called DUAC (prescribed). Additionally I also invested in a LightStim for Acne and holy moley this has helped a lot.
LASTLY - I’m using this retinol/glycolic acid cream that has helped A LOT with the congestion of clogged pores. Not sure if you have it where you are but it’s by SKIN DOCTORS and it’s called Gamma Overnight Glow (12% overnight resurfacing peel with retinol). HUGE difference to my skin since using it.
Wish you luck on your acne healing journey x

For over the past year I have a really bad acne, and during summer it got better but then I had a worse breakout than before. I went to dermatology and after using a tretinoin cream the breakout was fully controled. Currently, I am dealing with hiperpigmentation, I'm using azelaic acid and ceramides for keeping my skin barrier good, and finally it's improving. Using spf everyday it's a must, even if you're in home, the light of the screens it's also bad.
I totally relate you about feeling uncomfortable with making plans, I almost turn some weekends with my friends/family for knowing that at some point I would have to be without makeup, but luckily I realisd that all of that was in my mind and I went to all that plans.
I just want to say that your skin doesn't determined your value and that the people who loves you doesn't care about how you look. We always tend to see ourselves worse than it looks for others.
I'm glad that your skin is improving, you look gorgeous!

I’m literally at the exact same spot you are! Think I stopped the pill 6 months ago now as well, and I’m at the exact same place. Only want to heal naturally so have started taking supplements, also seeing a skincare lady who is helping me with my skin’s congestion whilst I heal myself internally which will hopefully eventually stop me breaking out this much. But I feel your pain girl! It is soooo disheartening and definitely makes me feel insecure but it’s a journey I guess.

@@NatalieBarbu yeah she has! I found my skin was healing better and breaking out less from the vitamins but I still had a lot of congestion like blackheads, etc. which then lead to further pimples so I've started getting a salicylic peel once a month to help and so far it has been amazing! She also uses this product that reduces the red spots that aren't active pimples but still discoloured and my skin looks so much clearer!

Totally relate on the having acne in your 20’s thing. I think you look great and I hope you can figure out the solution that works for you! I’m also 25 and dealt with what I think was hormonal acne mainly in my chin/lower cheek area for years. It has been pretty clear for the past year and a half about as I’ve been consistently following a skincare regimen everyday. Like you said, I felt like I tried so many prescription and non-prescription treatments for them to not work, or only temporarily work. About exactly two years ago, I started using Adapalene gel 0.1% and it has made the biggest difference in my skin. It is a drugstore product (around $10). After using that every night on my entire face for about a month and a half, I began incorporating clean and clear 10% benzoyl peroxide gel. So for almost two years now, I’ve been using both of these products every night on my face in combination with a simple face wash and moisturizer/serum, and my skin barely breaks out anymore. I have an older video on my channel where I show how I cleared my skin and my exact routine etc… I’m not sure if you ever tried Adapalene gel mixed with benzoyl peroxide before, but it may be worth a shot if you ever are open to trying a treatment again. The only downside I found to doing this Adapalene gel treatment was that it makes your skin worse before it gets better. My skin basically looked worse for the first two months or so of treatment, and then started gradually clearing up. After a few months I basically just had the occasional breakouts on my chin and a lot of discoloration, which has now almost fully cleared up. Good luck with your skincare journey!

Natalie, I was the same when I was your age but as I got older it got a lot better. My acne was trigger by my ansiety so I had to change a lot in my live, for exemplo I stop drinking coffee, eating less junk food, more water, try to sleeping well. But the most important job was with myself and the way I deal with ansiety. Of course everyone is different.

Hi. I’ve had breakouts since i was 13 and I’m 30 now. Face and the body too. My acne was deep cystic swollen bumps and i have oily skin. I went on accutane and it truly was the only thing that calmed my skin. I do get a small zit every now and then on my chin due to hormones. But i wish i had done it sooner. I would’ve had a lot less scarring if i had. Facials every 4-6 weeks also keep everything in check and help smooth my scars. Keeping coffee to a minimal and eating not too much diary/sugar is a big deal on my skin.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I hope you are doing and feeling better. ❤‍🩹 Having acne can take you on a mental toll, and it is very exhausting if you want to heal yourself from the inside out, because it will take time due to trial and error. 😪
