- I was called to put right a Lintel that was installed incorrectly, and by doing so the brickwork above it began to collapse!

I work with 'my' builder whose attitude to doing a job is like yours - there's only one way to do any job and that is to do it RIGHT in the first place. Well done!

Nightmare ….Izzy is someone you can rely on! Crazy when someone does things to make a job worse than it was! Looks really good and matches in very well! Very conscientious worker & detail orientated! 🎉

Just adding a few more….A very good worker, Half the time does all the donkey work himself like mixing up and loading out, probably great with the clients and comes across as a really nice guy! Good for him! At least some praise good work rather than slate it or be negative!

I will never get how people can say "yeah i can do that" when they clearly can't. How are they not worried about the embarrassment that is obviously going to come from it? I'm terrible at maths which is why i don't lie about being an accountant. I just don't get their thought process. There needs to be accountability for these rouge traders. Prison time!
Yes it’s bad….there are clients from hell too not just tradesmen from hell. This work needing sorting is just diabolical!
@@user-DANWALKER1066majority of the time it’s the tradesmen who think they’re better than they are or in most cases worse than they say they are.
Problem is people just want things done on the cheap. It's the finishing off that takes time, i.e. letting the pointing dry enough to be brushed etc. everyone knows someone who's had a dodgy builder ,few sing the praises of the decent ones.
@@Steve-j7z that is a major problem in the UK is that standards have dropped big time as a result of people wanting things done cheaply as you say! Also many clients refuse to pay bills you can do a wonderful job and it all be great but customers also come up with excuses to get out of paying! Then there are just the cowboys that don’t have a clue what they are doing and should be trained but haven’t been! I’ve been told by many I’m exceptional at my job but have been stung by bad clients in the past who haven’t paid which is demoralising! But 9/10 all is fine!
The issue is part greed, part lack of craftsmanship and part lack of self awareness

Why are British lintels so thin and weak. We use much thicker angle iron here in the U.S. The Brit’s look more like thin flashing.

So good to see you wet the joints before pointing so the mortar does not dry out too quickly and separate. The original builder needs his trowel taken off him.

Hey Izzy, the end result looking very good! One question from a 'non construction person': how do you achieve the sagging lintel not to sag anymore after your work is done? You didn't replace it, am I right? Thanks in advance for your answer!
Hiya mate, so we supported it with timber to stop it sagging when the mortar was wet! Once the mortar is dry, we take the support away and the Lintel is then able to carry the load better

It was either a 16 year old apprentice or a foreigner, most English Brickies I know are proud of their work.

If you do a bad job then 30 people will know about it. Do a great job then 10 will know but you will get recommended or people take your number. Do it right first time and no comebacks then.
Had to redo jobs someone has done badly and rip everything out as bodges hidden.
