Punishment doesnt work it leads to insanely high recidivism.
The vast majority of crime is survival/desperation/situation based.
Very few people are just evil.
But treating people who made a mistake(or worse killed a rapist, sold weed, or other things that really arent immoral) for 10-20 years then expecting them to magically be well adjusted upon release is how you make more evil people not less

100% right as usual about how rough the holidays are when missing your family. When we go away they're punished as much as we we are. They're doing that time with you, and missing you as much as you miss them.

I was a correction officer for DOC and i had a love/hate relationship with my job. I loved dealing with the inmates and listening to their stories and where they came from (thats why i watch ur vids!) but i hated the way the inmates was treated and the system behind the institutions. Always pissed me off

I never really had a grandfather, most of my immediate family died of drug overdoses. Your grandkids are lucky to have such a chill, understanding, and level headed grandad. Love your content and how wholesome of a guy you are regardless of the awful things that have happened to you. We gotta focus on rehabilitation instead of abusing our fellow humans in the hole but I know I’m just preaching to the choir here. My dads there right now and I need to write more, sent him a lil painting of mine a while ago, hope he got it.

What you say reminds me of a time I was in Norway and talked with an old lady about Anders Behring Breivik (despicable human being to the core), and she told me something I'll never forget. She said: "It's because he acted like a monster that we must treat him like a human being". I didn't agree at the time but boy did it make me think. Rehabilitation really is the only way, like it or not. Even if it means holding them in a cell for life, they are still humans. Thanks for the great content!

Yes your children didn't have you beside them in the way you wanted as they grew up -Now you're helping so many people see it as it is so the children of today can have more responsible parents. My oldest has been overseas for a year now. We try to talk on video chat every Saturday. Even though nobody is locked up, she is grown, I will still cry from time to time after our call missing her so much. Lord only knows how bad I will be when my youngest heads for her schooling in England.

Was locked up 5 years in the feds. First holiday was July 4th 1999. FCI Ft. Dix in New Jersey. There was a bunch of tournaments. From cards, dominoes, ping pong, pool, foosball, softball, basketball, etc. Had a nice spread for lunch. Bag lunch for dinner. Winners of tournaments got 6 packs of soda or more. Not what I expected at all. Christmas was the same, except you got a bag with some snacks and drinks and stuff. It helped. Made you forget for a few moments that you were locked up. I can tell you its just better to stay out of trouble or put yourself in situations that will get you in trouble. On a perfect day prison sucks. Larry keeps it real and does a great job of telling the story. Was interesting to watch. Great video

Larry, I grew up in a rough area in NYC and saw many friends get killed mostly because of stupid stuff we were doing, I smarted up and moved to Florida 15 years ago and now have a beautiful wife and 2 sons, I manage my oldest sons Baseball Team...nobody is perfect but I believe in people changing, I've been to the tombs in NYC and Riker's Island but they will never see me again, I started my own business and we are doing great! Keep posting brother!
Larry, would love to see a full video about fitness in prison. How do convicts gets so jacked without a proper diet, workout routines, Powerlifting contests, is there steroids in prison? Etc. Theres a few ex-cons youtubers who covered the subject a bit but not much.

I've made some mistakes in my past (nothing as major as yours, of course) and I've tried going back to a few people I've wronged but it always goes bad for me, so what I did was just change my ways, then a few of them recognized that I'm no longer the horrible person I used to be.

I have two friends locked up right now. One gets out in April an another is down for 10. I answer every call an make sure they know I'll be here now an when they are done. I tell them this every time we talk. I got you don't worry. One mistake doesn't define a person.

I volunteer in the Michigan State Prison system. I teach a group of guys some life skills. Some of these guys might not ever get out of prison, but they are good guys. They made stupid mistakes when they were young. They hung around the wrong people and made a big mistake. But I think that could have been me, if the situation was a little different. It means a lot to these guys to have a volunteer come in and help them. I enjoy it. Listening to Larry it just solidifies my purpose to help people. He is right there are guys that should not ever come out, but if you don't start rehabilitating these guys when they are in prison and they get out what are their chances of making a go at it. Thanks for the videos Larry.
Do you think that there should be a third tier of crime? Like felony, misdemeanor, and something in between? I think that certain crimes are too severe to be a misdemeanor, but too small to be a felony. I think that would help with rehabilitation and finding jobs

In the wealthiest arguably most powerful nation in the world, we treat our prisoners like dogs, our poor and homeless like wild animals that have lost their way, and our sick like customers at a convenience store. Dang glad you got out and decided to make changes in your life. Spending the holidays in jail or prison that sucks. No presents no special treatment, no special meals. Only phone calls. Not being to call your loved ones because one stupid inmate to ruin it for everyone by stabbing an inmate which lead to a lockdown. Getting arrested is not fun. What do you do now besides TH-cam?

I was talking to my friend in prison on the 4th of July and I asked him if he got to do anything to celebrate and he said “well, the 4th is Independence Day and no one in here has freedom. So it’s more of a day that makes a lot of guys in here mad.” I thought that was a really good point. Love your vids!!

I feel that we really harm our boys and men when we tell them crying isn't "manly" or some such bullshit, and force them to hold it in and not deal with it, THEN give them crap for not dealing with it. It's insane.
