Is this guy one of the most underrated figures EVER?!
First
Oh yea and the brand new transformer bot bots show is now on Netflix
Hey could you maybe mention me I a video please 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Indeed
i could say the same about your channal
The guns mounted on the wings would have been timed to fire between the blades as you would see in the old bi-wing planes during ww1. The impractical part of the guns on this plane would be the weight of the guns.
How he doesn't know that? These kids today...get out of my lawn!!!
Ideally, the wings would be larger and maybe have swivels to allow them to take different positions on the back during bot mode, maybe?
I dunno if an interrupter gear would work on a gatling!! :P
@@goawayihavecommentstomake1488 It wouldn't because the barrels aren't in the same place. If they were in one place the interrupter gear could stop it, but only if the bullet comes out of the same place each time one is fired. I am not saying it couldn't be done, but it would be easier for stacked barrels instead of the cylinder configuration on this gun.
I was about to say the guns would be synced with the blades to fire at a rate with them, but you beat me to it
@@goawayihavecommentstomake1488 Given that Gatling work on gears, I think it would work just fine.
The Hunt for the Decepticons line was such a great and creative time. We got things like Movie Seaspray, Stratospher, Bludgeon, a bunch of other cool weird one off charecteurs, all of the legends scale toys were fire. Really interesting time.
Bludgeon was in the ROTF toyline.
The one in the HFTD toyline was Banzaitron, a repaint of Bludgeon
Edit: Stratosphere also originated in the ROTF toyline
These lines were top tier when not confined to the movie characters.
I love that design. While I’m not usually a fan of the more human designs, the idea of an aviation pilot inspired design is really cool.
Ikr!! I wish hasbro would do more of this
I disagree, this dude looks NOTHING like a human, he's too mechanical and oddly designed to be registered human
@@PrimeVsPrime A year later but WE GOT IT >:D
Can't wait to see Stratosphere on the big screen
Don't underestimate the engineering of the time... WW-1 era aircraft were designed with synchronization of the propeller and machine-gun fire so they would automatically fire between the propeller blades.
This is WWII, unless you meant something he said in the video that I missed
02:05 - Interesting fact: On planes like this one, with rotors, were special mechanism, so machine-gun shoots in time not to shoot into rotor.
Yep beat me to it.
@@acem7749 me too
Hunt For The Decepticons really has some of the best designs across bayverse. Love these, such nostalgia. Lugnut is also very well designed.
Absolutely!
Such a cool design with a unique alt mode, it's also neat that the miniguns have proper weapon storage on the hip skirts
Absolutely love this guy. The 2nd transformer I got as an adult which got me back into collecting them. Love how the twin tails become the legs. Also, legendary spinning blades on the arms as weapons LOL. HFTD was a good line.
Re gunning himself down, no I don't think so. At least some types of WW2 planes had specially calibrated guns if I recall such that they shot between the prop blades.
That is a really cool idea! No idea they could do that in real life!
Your collection of RotF era figures is incredibly envy-inducing. You've got so many cool figures.
Thanks so much!
Man it's amazing how the hunt for the reception line has maintained such quality nearly on par with some studio series figures
Ikr?! It was incredible!
I actually have the repainted decepticon version of this figure. Decepticon powerdive, he's really cool and and although he is a repaint they gave him a new headsculpt which was really cool, since the headsculpt gives him one of those oxygen masks pilots wear. Even though he's a repaint it would be really cool to see you review him as well!
Another amazing mold from HFTD that has really stood the test of time. There are so many excellent uses as repaints as well; this mold is another great vintage plane throwback that is just not emulated enough in today's releases. And the goggles, can't forget those, what a great extra feature.
Ikr?! He is probably one of the best from HFTD for sure!
It’s really nice seeing you go threw the old stock man. Gotta be fun as heck for you too getting to hands on some stuff you haven’t messed with in awhile. Keep ‘em coming.
Absolutely haha! Love taking a look at the older figures! Thanks for checking it out :)
1:56 The spinning propeller was mechanically linked to the timing of the machine gun. The bullets will never hit the prop.
That’s so cool! Thanks for the info!
I have had this figure as long as I can remember. Awesome to see a new reaction to highbrow's greatness!
Got to say that is a beautiful p-38 lighting. Also rivets not screws as they hold tighter and accommodate more variance in loading.
I always transformer him so the hands are in line with the upper arm, which angles the propellers at 45°, pointing slightly forward. I feel it makes the arms look more cohesive and hides the tabs sticking out the back of the engine blocks better. Love this guy and so happy I got him at the time.
I love this mold as Obsidian. Perfect fit for the character.
I think these figures may show up in studio series if we’re all able to convince hasbro to do so…
He's great
Him, Dropkick (2007), Skyhammer, Comettor, Bludgeon, Incinerator, Lugnut (HFTD)... The best "movie" figures are, amusingly, those that didn't appear in the films
I never knew this guy existed. Definitely would have picked one up if I had. I've always had a severe lack of aircraft characters that look decent in my collection
I have the Powerdive version of this mold! I absolutely adore it and the figure
That repaint looks awesome!
Obsidian looks great too imo
I really love this old military design. Only knit pick I have is the lower arms they look a little too small over all this thing is really cool wish hasbro could do more like this
I agree!
the side Gatling guns are used as a last resort to gun himself down if the decepticons are after him
Haha yes! Honour… till the end!
Wow I love this Decepticon hunter ❣️🤩❣️💕💛💕💘🤩💘💝😍💜💜💗💙💗💙🤎
I remember looking for this figure back then but was sold out everywhere. I recently bought it for a decent price and i have zero regrets
Oh nice one!
Wow was not expecting such a cool robot mode design, I’d love to see more of these concept characters figures cause I’ve never seen this before, when we run out of studio series movies bots I think we know where hasbro can go
I didn't see it mentioned here but according to lead designer Bill Rawley, the insignia on his stabilisers is a pretzel with spider legs. Apparently this is a tribute to the father-in-law of then-Director of Global Product Design for the Transformers brand, Jared Wade. Wade's father-in-law flew the P-38 Lightning (a fast piston-engined fighter with a similar twin-boom design to this fictional plane) during WWII, and his callsign was apparently something to do with pretzels and/or tarantulas.
Studio Series should go back and give the good figures from the ROTF and HFTD lines and give them updated looks. I really like how Highbrow could go with a potential Studio Series ROTB Stratosphere.
Awesome retro-review. A wonderfully detailed figure from the heydays of the movie toylines.
The way the forearms are designed could have been better, though the gimmick is pretty neat.
I fully support your wish to see more creativity in the movie toylines again.
The HFTD line was absolutely phenomenal! I hope one day we can get a similar line one day. Fantastic review as always PvP!
Thanks so much! :)
@@PrimeVsPrime No problem! :)
Didn't even know this was released. So cool!
Ikr!!
I like this figure, the fact that you can interact with its rotor. Pretty cool.
Ikr!! Great gimmick!
I still have this guy boxed. Got him as a present. Did not know how cool he is.
I believe the symbol on the back fins may be the seeker insignia. I know that Jetfire doesn't have one in the movie, but the old-timey alt-mode (or alt-timey old-mode) would definitely fit the pictures from the meat locker scene.
Oh that is cool! Definitely makes sense!
The machine guns on World War one and World War II propeller Fighters we're specifically designed to stagger their firing to shoot between the spinning blades
Wow that is some precision
He looks amazing, I hope this version of Highbrow would somehow make a comeback for the Studio Series line tbh
with the crap they are putting up today? nah they are milking those geewuners like a farmer milking a cow
@@TV_body_else3636 of course 😮💨
I never noticed this figure so far, looks great
His head just looks like how AOE Crosshairs would look in TFP! so damn cool
Interesting fact.
Where the guns are mounted wouldn't be a issue because if a system commonly used in WW1 planes called a sync-gear, wich basically makes it so that a round only fires after a blade has passed.
Its a verry cool and innovative idea, the slowmo guys did a video on it for those that are interested
Wow that is so awesome! The precision needed must’ve been crazy!
Wow, a P-38 Transformer is quite an amazing concept! Why I never thought about this idea for an OC?
Guns were actually mounted behind propellers in the first half of the 1900s. They were timed with the propellers to allow bullets through without shooting their own propellers. Crazy engineering.
That is so crazy! The precision that would require is mad!
I agree! It’s not a bad design! Plus Hasbro was experimenting with different transformers 👍🙏
It has grown on me.
Both plane and robot looks really good. Though I could be nitpicking when I say the gatling guns look a little out of place compared to a pair of dual Browning 1919.
He was my first transformers toy, I miss him honestly--
I like to keep the fists folder in it looks more natural
This is one of the most underrated figures for sure! You should do another retro review on RTS Lugnut, PvP!
Thanks so much! & yes absolutely!
He looks so cool, could be one of the seekers with his WW2 Fighter mode
tbh ROTF might have been a mid movie but it's toyline was one of the best toylines transformers has seen
Your the best channel so far you are the first most of time with something
Thanks so much! :)
actually guns behind propellers were fired with a built in timing that was perfect with 100% throttle or WEP it would shoot inbetween the blades of the prop
thus never hitting the prop
I like the placement of the propellers, as I see them as a defensive choice for the bot.
This was one of my grail figures, along with the RTS Lugnut! I got Lugnut about a year ago and I just found out that this guy is in stock at Big Bad Toy Store (granted for $85 USD, but that is cheaper than Ebay). I picked it up form there, should be here next week!
Random fact: propellor planes that have machine guns mounted behind the propellor blades would not shoot themselves down. The guns and propellor blades were designed so that the fire rate would enable bullets to pass through the spinning blades without damaging them.
So cool! Thanks for the info!
This is essentially what ROTB Stratosphere looks like
Highbrow looks cool 😎
when a pod racer had a baby with a P-38 lightning in the diesel punk-verse
Believe it or not I was able to get powerdive (the decepticon variant) for $10 mint in box at a convention!
I like the idea of the propellers being displayed at the side of the arms on the robot mode because it reminds me of the defense rods used by some mobile suits in Gundam 00.
Me too! It’s awesome
there were many planes that had machine guns shoot through the propellers, they were timed to allow the bullets to go in between the blades.
i have that figure, it was given to me by a friend in 6th grade (it was 6 years ago) because he couldnt transform it and wanted me to try it, and if i could, he'd gift it to me, and i did... i now keep him on my collection shelf but his middle board like thing that formed his feet broke, 2 fins and his gatling guns were missing and one of the motors recently stopped working, the figure is still really damn good
Oh cool! That’s a nice backstory!
Just wanted to let you know highbrows aircraft mode is based off of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning
A cool StopMotion idea would for highbrow fighting jetfire it would be kind of funny since they’re both old
Haha absolutely!
Actually, the miniguns being where they are in plane mode isn't too bad: on the old WW1 biplanes, the machine gun was almost always positioned like that, right behind the main rotors. The reason that worked was that the fire rate of the machine gun was synchronized with the speed of the rotor, i.e. the gun only fires in intervals where it wouldn't hit the blades
That is so cool! Precision must’ve been on a crazy level!
@@PrimeVsPrime yup, it's wicked! Although you are right that it wouldn't make a lot of sense for this particular plane; the main reason they mounted the gun behind the rotor like that on the biplanes was because that puts it right in front of the pilot, so it's easier to aim. But it definitely would have been possible to have them like this!
@@PrimeVsPrime oh actually i just looked it up, if you look at your red baron from toyworld in plane mode, he has the guns in that arrangement as well!
I remember, that I used to have the Hunt for the Decepticons autobot Hubcap as a kid back then. But it went missing and I tried to find it, but i couldn't find it.
I did a quick scan on highbrow's heigh, even though his alt mode is a Lockhead p-38 lightning from WW2, is slightly taller than Optimus. Optimus' height is around highbrow's mouth shoulders.
I am so happy to have him !!!🤩🥰
very cool! I have this figure but i totally forgot how to transform him so now i have a tutorial! SWEET!!
I remember having this one when i was younger and it used to confuse me cause he wasn’t in the movie
I agree. A third-party company should give us an updated version of this great figure.
I'm not really a "plane guy" but the P-38 from Lockheed has got to be one of my favorites! What they did with his design makes me hope, although they more than likely won't, for like a larger version of him. I really dig him! In either mode! So much so that it's hard for me to decide whaich one to display him in👍👍 I've also wanted to know what the insignia on his back wings meant but I've had no luck with that so far.
I love this figure, I just wish they where less expensive.
such an amazing transformer ive been looking for standard size plane transformers that werent the standard f-15 jet
the Obsidian repaint is pretty sweet
I got mine a bit back from my local jays, it's where I've been doing a lot of my older tf figure searching.
Me too! Always nice to take a look at the past!
Epic review PrimeVsPrime!!!!! Highbrow remains one of my favorite Transformers figures from the entire Hunt for the Decepticons line. :D I have always had a fascination with WWII aircraft, and having a Transformers figure have one, a P-38 Lighting, as an alt mode, makes it one of the greats of the franchise. :D Do you have the Generations Powerdive repaint? Keep on being amazing.
Hopefully The Studio Series Would Do This Figure And It Would Be So Cooler Like The Original Figure Was
I always thought this should get a Recolor as Waspinator
I feel the goggles and face had definitely inspired aoe/tlk crosshairs
Love this figure it design is amazing and the figure it’s self
This, ACTUALY looks like a goods desing for a Transformer, not even a movie one Just, a good desing in general
I think the concept of the propellers on the arms is great, but the execution on this figure is not great
Sadly not. But overall it’s a nice figure! :)
Really cool. I wish Hasbro would perhaps bring in sub-lines of concept and video game characters to the studio series.
I wonder how a transformation look like from a twin-fuselage plane. Basically two planes connected with side-by-side with a ‘middle wing’; use during WW2.
there are weapons on aircraft designed to shoot at specific intervals as to not shoot their own props in theory it's possible that that is what those guns are
Oh that is really cool! I had no clue!
This is one of 3 bay movie bots I still have hes amazing
He’s super cool! Who are the other 2?
Man I love this mould something serious! I have the remould of this, Powerdive, who imo is even cooler than Highbrow. I love it so much i have two, one for each mode.
Yesss I agree! Powerdive looks great!
I bought this figure on eBay couple years ago. I think I paid $36 for him witch isn’t that bad!
Love this mold, especially as Powerdive, only nitpicks about the mold are the proportions of the arms and the engine gimmick is busted on the left arm of my copy
The insignia on the tail fins would be the division symbol that the plane belonged to. It looks fictional as I don't see anything like it in the WW2 listings on Google.
I think as far as this figure goes it's supposed to be the symbol of the seekers. Like Jetfire and that ford model t
Oh wow thanks!
Anybody wonder what was under those gold parts on the engines since you could hunge them up it looked like
so Transformers Generations Decepticons Powerdive is just an outright recolor of this figure, AMAZING!!! 😱😱😱
love this guy, same with ransack from rotf
that's really cool! nice find!
Thank you!
Wow that's awesome
Those logos on the tail fins mean he's a wicked pretzel.
Haha YUM!
NGL he's got a pretty clean robot mode
The plane mode reminds me of a plane from the cartoon from my childhood 😅 think it was tailspin
Woah! I never ever seen that one! Wicked!
This was one of those figures I always wanted, but never got my hands on.
Got mine off eBay today!
