Yamaha YZ426F Carburetor cleaning. No start troubleshooting. Model years 2000, 2001, 2002

- Hello everyone. Today we have a 2001 Yamaha YZ426F that would not start. This bike had been sitting and I had to remove the carburetor and clean it. I also had to drain out the old fuel from the tank. This applies to the 2000, 2001, and 2002 model. Produced with CyberLink PowerDirector 17
Nice bike! Its very easy to take the carb out of these bikes without loosening any of the subframe bolts. With everything loose and disconnected of course, pull the carb out of the engine side manifold as far as you can and then while you’re pulling it (intake boot) back pull the carb out. Need some man handling but its very easy. I do it all the time on my 426 and 450
Good job! I have the same bike. It does take some ass to kick it over. I also have a 76 TT500. I have ridden these beasts for 35 years. The TT is is like an old muscle car, the 426 a Roush Mustang.
Great video! I purchased a 2001 Yamaha YZ426F that didn't run. After replacing the gas tank, hoses, radiators, doing an oil change and spark plug change, I still couldn't get the bike to start. I went step by step with your video and took the carb apart, cleaned it, and put it back together. I finally was able to get the bike running. Thank you!
Great video! I followed every step and used a all balls rebuild kit. not sure what main jet to use so I just used the new 162. My throttle linkage is all screwed up and wish there was more on how to adjust properly. I will give update if I can get this bike started and throttle working as it should. thanks for the vid I've never worked on a four stroke so still have a lot to learn.

Very good video. I think you kinda skipped over the float valve explanation though. I sent a customer your video to see how to clean his carb. He has an over flow leak issue probably from crud in float valve. When I started watching your video I was hoping you would touch on that so he could see just what I was explaining to him.
why worry yourself with the decompression lever when you just kick it straight up haha great video thanks for the advice im currently doing the same thing to my 02 426

That little brass washer that fell out halfway through the video and was laying in the bucket, where does that go....found it after I put mine back together
How the hell did you manage to kickstart that bike without using decompression lever? Must have a hot cam, because stock cam requires a large silverback gorilla to push through that kind of compression. Good video, thanks

I have a 02 yz426 f the bike won’t kick start for nothing we checked spark plug and checked if it’s getting fuel we bump started it and it ran great but one we cut it off it won’t kick start have any ideas why or what we could do

I wonder how long it took for those throttle cable bracket stay screws to vibrate back out lol and you need a smaller screwdriver for the screw as on the jets so you don’t cause metal shavings js but very great and informative video for the peeps that don’t know and don’t mind me I’m just ocd as f***
This dude pulled all that off just for the carburetor I only loosened the breather box and disconnected the ignition and Walla
You should go to Vegas immediately if you had luck like this with a 426.
Beware anybody doing this yourself he basically did a carb flush. Not a clean or a rebuild. Highly suggest you take your bike to a shop and have professionals clean rebuild and tune the carb. It is not as easy as it looks in this video. I am not insulting you at all when I say I find it extremely hard to believe that this bike was a no start bike and you fired it up first kick after only what you did to the carb. What this video shows is a good scenario of a bike with bad fuel in it and possibly a little bit of sand in the main jet or idle jet and that’s why it was not starting. Other than that the carburetor must have newly been rebuilt with all good seals.
I love my Yz426f. But I will say tho, The bike I had before (KTM 525x 2004) is easier to wrench on. Or I should say, It's less ''go around'' bullshit and just straight to it. I mean just compare these two below.
''Take the carb off of a Yz426f.''
1: Take the seat off.
2: Remove the lower screws of left and right shroud.
3: Remove the tank.
4: Take the right side plate (Plastic) off.
5: Remove the end pipe of the exchaust.
6: Remove the cover for the rear brake master cylinder.
7: Remove the screw to the brake tank reservoir.
8: Remove left and right sub frame screws.
9: Loosen up the middle sub frame screw and lift the rear end of the bike.
10: ''NOW'' you can remove the carb.
''Take the carb off of a KTM 525sx 2004''.
1: Take the seat off.
2: Remove the lower screws of left and right shroud.
3: Remove the tank.
4: Remove left and right sub frame screws.
5: Loosen up the middle sub frame screw and lift the rear end of the bike.
6: Remove the carb.
Less is good.. Less is better. Less frustration and problems.

I have a 2000 wr-400 I can't remember if the jet was changed for the altitude I Am in. I have moved back and forth from Washington State to Colorado several times. Would you happen to have an idea of the stock size jet maybe the one I need here in Colorado. The bike has had the cam profile change to mach the yz426 and it has a full gytr exhaust.gas has set for about 3 to 4 years I fired it up in Washington for a minute after putting fresh gas, but it only wanted to run with the choke on. Didn't have much power. I it has sat now again since it wasn't ridable.
So generally going up in elevation will require a reduction in main jet size. Temperature also plays a factor but we wont go there here. So if you have gone up in elevation then you might need an adjustment. However, once you get the bike running the spark plug is going to give you a lot of information about how it is running. As for having to only run on choke it sounds like you will need to clean the pilot jet to get her to idle properly or just clean the whole carburetor. I hope this helped some. It can also be tricky with the cam adjustment and pipe installed to get it right.
I have the same exact bike, I just changed the oil, oil line that clamps on the frame, changed the spark plug to the ngk iridium and put everything back now there is too much compression I pull the decompression valve find tdc than bring it to the top but I could hardly kick through tdc does anybody have any ideas all help would be appreciated

@@kushsmokegunsmoke5431 Good evening. So for the pilot jet I think I went 2.5 out for the mixture screw. For the jets themselves when installing them into the carburetor you go all the way in to snug but do not over tighten them they can break or get stuck.

@@OTRVM That small internal mixture screw setting is the one I need advice on how many turns out? I wish I never touched it. Was cleaning the carb and got interupted.

I have A wr400f which has been seating for over a deacade and I have been trying to get it back to life with no lack, thing is it rings were replaced them had never been started or put back together completely,i.e. radiators tank lights are all off the bike, what could be the reason it won't start, I have compression, spark-though not the original spark coil but from a smaller bike-and I cleaned the cab so am assuming I have fuel supply, what's you advice, if you can plead what's app me on +260955982722 am utterly stuck and it's frustrating. Any help I can get will be highly appreciated
