Don't get me wrong, I still love "new" Real Estate, but I miss this era. The vibe of the music is still the same, bit I miss the original band members. Hope they are doing well.❤
I was scrolling through the youtubes seeing what it will show me and this video came up. So glad i stopped to watch it. Yes, it migh be old but still glad i stopped to watch. Excellent!
I'll call this more indie-rock than pop-rock but I share Stephen's sentiment. I discovered the band on All Songs Considered and instantly fell in love with their music.
Real estate really is the epitome of the existence of conflicting emotions. Martin Courtney's melancholic lyrics and chords accompanied by the gleeful riffs from Matt Mondanile. Mondanile is now leaving Real Estate. And this is probably the last stop of the amazing journey by Real Estate so far. I'm sure they'll come up with their next beautiful album, but it's not going to be the same since the counterpart of Courtney is now gone.
Not really. A phaser is a comb filter, or an EQ can going back and forth. A flanger delays your signal with different times to make your signal go out of phase.
Agree. Atlas was their best album. Matt had the unique ability to make Martin and Alex's sound "fuller", in a way that Julian is simply unable to replicate.
Humm I don't know what verse you are referring to but sampling the video I could hear the bass fine through fair PC speaker setup (I usually listen through old but good isolating headphones). I think the picked bass helps significantly give this band that mid-60's pop sound. I am just discovering this band so I don't know the sound they are after but as an ex-small-time live sound mixer the vocals seem a bit dry to me. I like this band quite a bit so far and look forward to hearing more.
Bro can’t hear himself! He asks for more in the monitors at 7:17. NPR/Subculture did him zero favors producing the vocals with the typical ambience they record their albums with. Rest of the band sounds alright, just like NPR took it from a mic at the back of the room. 🤦♂️
Good album and band. Too bad Matthew was fired (understandably). His rifts were the heartbeat of the band. His talent shines in Ducktails too. Drummer (Etienne) is excellent. Charismatic bassist Alex is good too. Martin is boring. Lead singer has to engage the crowd more. Good solo album though.
Doesn’t get any better than this era of real estate. Atlas is absolute perfection

My favorite album from Real Estate. I miss this sound in their most recent works :(
This is most definitely "driving down the highway towards the sunset" music
DIIV is another good one too! Go check out the band!
Carrie Ryan real estates debut is definitely a morning drive album, whilst days in the afternoon, and atlas towards the night
at night, getting back from the beach.
Wow
The song Had To Hear is my favorite song of 2014. Have played it 100+ times since its release.

Very well said... departed from their live show early because it just wasn't the same without Matt Mondanile.
They had a concert last May in Israel with Matt's replacement and it just wasn't the same.. :/
Ambient Waves Music how was it different sound wise without him at that show?
Meiron Bashi like did it sound different? missing something ?
Little did we know Matt was a mega creep.
Love it at 18:45 when mate I doesn't know what do.Such a great band.Nothing but good vibes from these lads.
I'm so thrilled with the new album! Such melodies.
April's Song
Dig it. Nice ambient b-roll at the top.
absolutely amazing, incredible band!
Two words: fuzzed out! What a fabulous set!
dang that vocal audio quality is shockers
"Primitive"- 29:00
"How Might I Live"- 34:20
Great band!
i love this incredible band :)
absolutly beautiful
Absolutely outstanding! Refreshing music for your life!!! :)
Chill riff kings
Who in the hell would give this a thumbs down?
Amazing.
I patiently wait for them to come and perform in Portland, Maine.
México, Festival Corona Capital 2014 los espera!
That b side oh yeah
Fuckin awesome performance. Can't wait to play live
He sure loves his flanger pedal! (i do too ;))

Tyler Haas in other words, what i said. tone going up and down, phase going in and out
The timestamps for primitive and how might I live are mixed up.
Nice
this band was so much better when Matt M was in it
True. April's Song, Navigator and Had to Hear are clear examples of that.
Sort that kick drum out!
They sound so much better with Matt Mondanile still on guitar.
Agree. Atlas was their best album. Matt had the unique ability to make Martin and Alex's sound "fuller", in a way that Julian is simply unable to replicate.
mixing on this video is awful
Haha true.
Cannot hear the bass guitar because of the drums during the verse. Is it just me? And it was recorded by NPR....

Beautiful just f#&ken beautiful
Music sounds good but the voice needs tuning

Music delicate. Good songs. Video and image boring.
War on Drugs, awesome! Wait, what? Real Estate? Who?
They are dreadful live.
