Some People aren’t very media literate. It’s why the lady who played Skyler white on breaking bad literally received hate mail and death threats bc the bb fandom hates her so much and idolize Walter white, even tho that is the exact opposite interpretation/intent that Vince gilligan was trying to convey to audience. Even if characters like the punisher and Batman aren’t supposed to necessarily be “heroes” and blindly praised as good guys (and even if this is plainly stated in the writing and story), certain people who sit down to watch the show with certain beliefs about society, justice and crime will allow those beliefs to effect how they interpret the show.

This controversy was addressed in Punisher Vol. 12 #13 written by Matthew Rosenberg in July 2019. In the issue, Frank comes across two police officers who are fans of his. They take a selfie with him and show they have a sticker of his logo on their car before comparing their work to his. Unimpressed, the Punisher tears up the sticker and tells them, "I'll say this once, we're not the same. You took an oath to uphold the law. You help people. I gave that up a long time ago. @iRedacted when you say the “law”, I am not sure which “law” you are referring to exactly. There is case law from the Supreme Court that says cops are not liable for not showing up to calls, but that doesn’t have to with endangering themselves. It has to do with liabilities and duties in tort negligence claims. There was no police department for decades after the second amendment was passed. Who defended the founding fathers? It was clearly designed for self defense. I am a former cop that cared about more than a paycheck, but I also know not to rely on cops either.
You know what the funniest thing about people using The Punisher's skull logo is? Canonically speaking, Frank Castle HATES these motherfuckers. Like, with a passion. Some years back, there was a saying, "words have meaning". This was in regard to signs on people's property, with gun pictures and words like, "I don't call 911", "anyone found here at night will be found here dead in the morning", etc. Even in legitimate self defense shootings, people with signs like that were imprisoned after killing someone that broke into their home.

There are two tpes of police. The ones who sincerely want to serve people and those who want to prove to themselves and everyone aaround them that yes they are a man and I have the badge and gun to prove it.
There is a motorcycle club called "Punishers" and they use the logo and in order to join, you have to be a cop or corrections officer. How STUPID do you have to be?
It doesn't matter that much, worrying about what your gun looks like is a very back burner concern to just knowing self defense laws and following them very strictly. Most judges are not going to allow a prosecutor to argue that this emblem means you are guilty or means you have x intent same with type of ammo. These kind of arguments have almost 0 probative value on their own and they are extremely prejudicidial. If your judge did allow the prosecutor to argue like this or admit evidence like this you would have a very good chance at winning an appeal. Unless you have something that makes the ammo type or emblem probative it's probably not going to be able to be used in arguments. For example if you write in your diary "I really wanna see what these RIP rounds do to my wife" now the ammunition type is actually telling us something it is probative and then the prosecutor can argue hey you used x round and you said this in your diary. You're not allowed to just argue nonsense that doesn't prove anything in an attempt to confuse the jury or make them dislike a defendant. Arguments have to actually be related to the the guilt or innocence of the charges. And in a case where you have raised self defense really the only question for the jury to decide is, were you in reasonable fear of great bodily harm or death.
The takeaway: The punisher doesn't care about rule of law, and everyone who's had a thin blue line punisher skull, in particular cops, shouldn't own firearms. You're not the punsher. You shouldn't want to be the punisher. Be Captain America.

My favorite comic is the one where some fanboy cops approach the punisher and show off his skull on their police equipment and go on about how they idolize him and Frank is pissed. I'm an attorney in California. I'm not putting anything on my guns that would say "hey, look at me!" for exactly this reason. You never know how a prosecutor in a criminal case or an attorney in a civil matter might twist around something completely innocent into something that appears nefarious. While the Punisher skull in this case had no impact on the ultimate outcome of the case in light of the evidence, it was important enough for attorneys to bring it up and address it on appeal. My wife has an AR she inherited from her mom and I have a Ruger Mini-14. When I show them to people and ask them which one they think is more dangerous, what do you suppose they choose? Yup, appearances matter to some people.
There isn't too much to be "twisted" about a Punisher skull on a gun. It valorizes a vigilante lunatic outlaw and gives a clear insight into the mind of its owner that they either don't take the act of using a firearm in self-defense seriously enough from a legal or moral standpoint or that they are actively looking for an excuse to kill someone.
Makes sense. If it's aggressive, it can be twisted to show "desire to XYZ"/anti-social that, and if it's flippant or light-hearted, I could see it being twisted to show a "lack of regard for human life" or something along those lines. A basic cerakote or something straight forward like that is one thing, but leave the slogans and silliness and "don't treat on me" for the metal posters in your man cave.

Most od them don't realize that he isn't a good guy. He's a criminal vigilante. He does only go for criminals but violent vigilantism is still a crime, if we allow everybody to go after people they don't like who's to say you won't come for me? Or I for you? Furthermore, these imbeciles put the punisher skulls and blue lines together as if the Punisher doesn't hate police. And they flaunt the logo as if the Punisher doesn't hate people wjo celebrate him. He himself says he isn't a hero or an idol and you should look up to Cpt America. He repeatedly destroys his logos in the comics Wear a cool looking skull all you want but don't draw paralelles between you and the character because if you knew anything about the character you wouldn't be doing that
I'm just saying that there are a lot of people that like Punisher Skulls just because they look neat. They don't care about the history of the Punisher or what the comic book author or the Punisher would have thought about putting that symbol on a firearm. Their 1 inch deep synopsis of the Punisher is that one guy with a gun can make a difference in the world. Nothing wrong with that. People put Molin Labe and American Flags and hundreds of other things on their firearms and other possessions.... And I don't judge them for it. Hell... I've long considered giving one of my ARs a Boba Fett paint job. Doesn't mean that I think I am a mercenary wandering the star system. I just think it looks cool. 🤷🏼♂️ I find it a lot more "cringe" that the same people pointing fingers will buy any piece of kit that a Navy SEAL uses so they can LARP around their house with their military approved optics and plate carriers and Daniel Defense rifles. Buy a perfectly fine pistol for $500 and do $1,000 worth of "upgrades" because the tactical guys say that this will make them more tactical. And yes. It's probably a bad idea to put any kind of symbolism on the firearm that you plan on shooting someone with in the 0.001% chance that you are in that situation.
@@sociopathmercenary As i said, the intention itself is not always what makes a picture. But when (intentionally or unintentionally) someone acts like the actual meaning of the symbolism that person used as decoration of one of their objects. Then it is an uphill argument to prove that the person did not know or understand the actual meaning. Therefore i would avoid "unknown" symbolism not just on your self defense weapon, but in general. Better to paint no picture than a potentially wrong one.
@@sociopathmercenary what you said make no sense. If someone uses a symbol that represents a no good killer and you use it you are saying you are also a no good killer. Imagine if someone put a swastika on there gun and there defense is "I like how it looks" what would your reply be then.

I've hated punisher skulls since (while I was driving a semi) some jerk, with a punisher skull on the rear if his hatchback, decided to swoop, squat, and brake check repeatedly down to 40mph from highway speeds. I'm sure he thought he was "teaching a lesson" over some perceived slight to his convenience.
Ever since then, I've associated symbol with immature jerks who like don't contemplate any order of conequence beyond the immediate. Case in point: putting the symbol on a firearm.
Or trying to get you tap him in the rear so that he can sue the big bad trucking company for his "life crippling injuries"
That's more so ordinary American road rage behavior. Every few days I'll get someone honking at me, cutting around me, nearly getting themselves killed over a 3 minute inconvenience of an Amazon driver stopping to deliver packages on a main road. I've been punisher logos, I've seen free Palestine logos, but either one wouldn't look good in court regardless if the judge has republican or democrat leanings

Cosmetic mods on guns in general are cringe. Punisher and zombie accessories are top of the cringe hierarchy.
The takeaway: The punisher doesn't care about rule of law, and everyone who's had a thin blue line punisher skull, in particular cops, shouldn't own firearms. You're not the punsher. You shouldn't want to be the punisher. Be Captain America.

I read The Punisher back when I was a teenager in the 80s. And, over the years, I've worn the T-shirts and baseball caps with the logo. I was a fan - still am, really. But then the Moron Labe (sic) types appropriated the logo and ruined it for everyone. Cops with Punisher skulls on the uniforms? Frank Castle wouldn't want anything to do with a cop who wore those. Now, my stuff is folded up and sitting at the back of a drawer because I wouldn't want anyone to mistaken me for one of those twits. And, yes, I'm a veteran and a gun owner.
Moron Labe is almost as good as the Gravy Seals
Some of the “Judge Dredd” wannabes are equally bad.
Marvel actually had the Punisher tell off some cops who had his logo one time.
I feel like I need to start reading punisher comics now with how much cops and their bootlickers love to appropriate the character, despite the character himself being vehemently against these troglodytes
My favorite comic is the one where some fanboy cops approach the punisher and show off his skull on their police equipment and go on about how they idolize him and Frank is pissed. He goes off telling them how he does what he does bc the police are corrupt and ineffective and if he ever sees them parading around on duty with his skull logo still all over their stuff that he’s gonna have to deal with them too. He ends the interaction by telling them that if they want a roll model to go worship Captain America instead

Who you can tell is insecure but can't get people to listen to him because he's a far right nutjob even in the one instance he's right it's left to interpretation if anyone listened anyway due to where it would be published anyway being a place that openly defended the kkk
