Soccer Mommy is the indie bedroom pop project of Sophie Allison. On bandcamp she refers to her music as "chill but kinda sad" which is an apt but reductive version of the personal, mournful collection of tunes Allison has been putting online since 2015. Allison has pushed back on the "sad girl" descriptor in the past year, directing listeners to 2017's Collection to highlight the progression from mopey lo-fi stories into the exciting full band project she now fronts. Check out the full performance by Soccer Mommy on Audiotree Live.
Recorded on September 14, 2017 in Chicago, IL.

Can we talk about the red guitar tone, just heavenly clean
Yes but not heavenly clean as in without tone but with heavenly tone
Great comment. So pristine. That Fender amp she's playing it through has a lot to do with it too.

Chris Nitti thanks chris
Chris Nitti always holding it down with the times. You the man Chris.
I'm a man of the people what can I say?
ugh i wanted to hear death by chocolate
Same! I love that song
my favorite songs in one video, i still go back to this video from time to time, totally timeless 🧚♀️ I love soccer mommy!!
That last performance....That was great. That guitar playing was flawless. It sounds easier than it actually is.
It's not so much about _what_ you play, but _how_ you play what you do play. Control, inflection, timing. That gives the music depth, when done right (or well), as imo she has done here.
That guitar reverb, the vibes of the sound, the voice, the drummer, the bass sound: all makes feel warm the heart of the listener. Music is what care.
This band is awesome, the lyrics have a bit of maturity to them and yet there’s such a youthful vibe. I can’t quite place it but they have a vibe that makes me nostalgic about the alternative music that was out in the early 200’0s.
damn you're old
@@Matthew-xm2eo rather 😂
I am now picturing the citizens of the Roman Empire jamming out to Soccer Mommy and indie rock
@@Matthew-xm2eo I hope being old is not a crime. But listening to Justin Bieber...
Thats why they are amazing
wow im love this band
very good.. this was recorded on my birthday. I like the songs.
Love the new songs and your band!

Absolutely love this band! Such good vibes and tones.
How nice sound, love it!
my fave performance by soccer mommy
what an odd bunch ! absolutely incredible!!!
Such a good band!!
I am here from KEXP's comment section because someone said that the lead guitarist didn't suck at Audiotree's.
Haha im here too but I dont get the hate. I mean hes not the best and messed up here and there but I liked the ending of scorpio rising even tho it was under heavy critic
@@Finjodb watch a stage performance, it gets pretty bad (IMO)
Yeah I don't get the hate...not sure I care enough to watch more videos though ha. I mean they are pretty good though.
reminds me of pavement - which is always a good thing
love that phantom teardrop guitar!
Good caps but looks horrible to me lol
It's funny seeing all these comments about the bassist and drummer since when I saw them last night opening for Slowdive they had completely different people playing bass and drums lol
holy shit Soccer Mommy opened for Slowdive!! what an accomplishment
Melting Pot yeah it was my first introduction to them and they were great!!! Really excited to her the new album now cause both the singles they’ve put out so far are amazing
Yh, she decided to get some professional musicians in
That had to be a pretty amazing show.
@@cadenhopp9884 lol that's not how it works.
bass player is a doll 😍😍😍😍😍
found this band on youtube algs... i just love the prettiness.
this band is dope.
Lovely!
This band is a great discovery.
Lovin' this version of 'Inside Out'
I totally vibed this, the guitar was fine
This is pure music.
I’ve fallen in love
9:20 "I'm trying to think of who is his friends" I thought all his friends were dead
Why is everyone drooling over the bass player DO YOU EVEN SEE SOPHIE???
I SWEAR
yeah I can see her, she looks cute, a bit fat, just like every other girl. the bass player on the other side looks awesome
@@Abyss-Will 😐
@@Abyss-Will ‘nobody liked that’
@@Abyss-Will that is Sophie sister
I fell in love
just fell in love with her bass player wtf
elijah forrester it's Sophie's sis I think, she seems so cool
I WANNA KNOW HER NAME

Me enamore de la bajista.

DO A SECOND SESSION PLEASE
I'm still sad i got to the Jay Som show at subterranean too late, i assumed they'd be on second so we showed up late. This band is fucking fantastic tho, I'm bummed they didn't play death by chocolate at audiotree.
That vox phantom is sick af!!
Its a phantom teardrop, based off the old vox teardrop. Not to be confused with the old vox phantom, which had that angular coffin shape. And agreed, they sick af!
HELL YEEEAAAAAH
good night moon if i had a dollar for everytime i saw you on youtube comments i'd be rich
TheMarsilver i'd be rich aswell if i have a dollar on every support im giving to these great bands
Yess cool
Soccer mommy needs to play “Jacob” more
It doesn’t have enough credit
Zombies AF 🥺
nice group. best o' luck
this is fucking incredible
They're cute!
That teardrop guitar is giving me gear envy.
Hell yeah reppin Hume-Fogg
Somebody crowdfund this dude a ride cymbal.
and a tuner for lead
p sure the studio has plenty of cymbals to let the drummer borrow just the one at least?
it's called a crash-ride breh
devildog621 Well that cymbal is already pretty cracked...
I bet he likes the sound of it.. he's gotta have other cymbals. These guys have pretty nice gear.
I listen to Soccer Mommy while mtn biking.
Cool music. There's kind of a Johnny Marr influence to the lead guitar, love it.
Will be seeing these guys with Luna next month, I'm pumped
how was it?
@@drownme18 it was great
Last Girl gives me a Courtney Barnett kind of vibe
Scarlet witch, jessica jones and foggy nelson.. (good band btw)
Great vid, really enjoyed it and well put together. If I could make one constructive criticism - the presenter needs to let the act speak more.
I know its probably adrenaline and excitment, but let them speak and say what they know rather than bombarding them with your own info. x
Wicked 😎
I enjoy the commentary guy
bassist: exists
me: I WONT SIMP I WONT SIMP I WONT SIMP I WONT SIMP I WONT SIMY
simp
yeah im in love
Thats a fucking perfect!
I NEED THE CHORDS FOR LAST GIRL
no capo
(c) I want to be (d) like your last girl (em) she has looks (b) that (c) drive you wild and
that's all I've got for now
Anybody got a read on the chord shapes she's playing on Alison? She was mostly playing barre chords before this, but these seem to maybe be in an alternate tuning.
Open D
Great session. I just wish the host didn't waste so much time talking random emo stuff when he could've asked them stuff about their band
Krysten Ritter is playing bass
They should tour with Hockey dad
Strong Liz Phair vibe.
Who’s that bassplayer?
Who's the bassist?
thas a cool guitar
Inside out is a cool song
2019 anyone?
"Triple x tentAYcion" lmao
end my life yea that was cringy af
hahahahahahahaahahaha
Is that not how that ridiculously shitty name is pronounced?
@@thebrowniesaur22 no
what do they say that?
Cool band. The drummer is killing me with that 15 dollar ride tho
scampoli25 that $20 walmart ride cymbal? it's hella good
sounding like shit is part of the genre dude
That’s punk rock for ya man
Sounds more cracked than cheap to me
someone must've muted the bass :(
Did anybody understand the names of those artists she’s talking about ?
I want to put these guitar tones into a sandwich so i can chew on em.
interviewer: you went to highschool, how as that. OK. OK. OK. OK. OK. shoutout.
Considering she was around 7 when From Under The Cork Tree came out I feel like the interviewer is coming from a completely different perceptive on the scene around that time.
Heart eyes for the bass player
Hey, there it is, the guy who has to comment on how hot he thinks the female musician is in the comments.
@@kingcobrajfsofficial in all fairness, he didn't specify the degree of hotness, merely implied that some hotness was at hand. Furthermore, the quite real and mensurable hotness also exhibited by the male musicians has been hitherto neglected. In conclusion I propose a full scientific ranking of all constituents party to the video thusly:
1. the interviewer, hotness 8.771 (Adj. for beard parity)
2. the bass player, hotness 8.65521 (Weighted)
3. sophie, hotness 8.35 (lead singer parity z69 included)
4. the drummer (cardinals shirt)
5. a shout-out to the hard-working audio engineers slaving away behind the scenes to bring you fresh content week after week.
6. all the wonderful people at fender guitars delivering quality for generations
7. SM-57, the industry standard; still phallic
8. You, the viewer.
9.
10. the other guy
@@johnsonmcdaniels9583his was a pretty funny read and a perfect counter to that first reply. One minor problem, I think "the other guy" is hot too.
Hockey Dad collab is necessary - for tone and name sake
god I love Soccer Mommy so much, no other music to listen to for a growing American boy!
Pretty good, just a shame the bass amp was turned off and the drummer found his ride cymbal in a landfill sight on the way to record this set
@@Versed_ i don't think he means it was actually turned off, she doesn't really do anything.
Bass was fine. It's called "rhythm section" for a reason there, geddy lee
Ollie White get better ear phones
Lol you, sir, are dumb.
Audiotree usually does a good job of mixing their sessions and you can't expect every bassist to be like jaco or geddy
is she in standard tuning ?
who missed this line-up? 😌
Kristen Ritter on bass
So I thought I was in love but then, out of nowhere there is this bass player...
the bassist seems so fucking cool i wanna be her friend
omg hi daine (me 2)
whos the bass player??
Sophie's sister Emily
Is that Marceline on the bass?
Is she playing a baritone?
wish she would raise her mic up, im getting a stiff neck just watching it
The bass player ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Why does the guitar player sound so good here but so much worse in other live sessions? He's legit killing it here
He sounds like shit on Benadryl dreams tbh
When the second song started I literally thought I restarted the video accidentally.
Jadon Harper - lol they do all sound the same
