For all the deserved acclaim Warren Haynes gets as a guitarist, he's just a criminally underrated vocalist. His interpretation is just a thing of beauty.
I just love derek trucks I mean the whole band is great but when derek starts climbing up the scale with the volume swells.....its a thing of beauty man
This is the tune I want going out across the ocean as my flaming viking ship heads out. I was like 5 ppl back between greg and derek. it was some of the finest music I have ever heard.
I get teary eyed every time I hear Van Morrison sing this song and I'm glad to hear the love and heart that the ABB puts into this beautiful song. The passion of Warren's voice is nearly on the same level as Van's. I want to go to there.....
This is what makes a great cover. The band took what did best and put their own spin on it. Derek’s ethereal playing, Warren’s phenomenal pipes which are terribly underrated. The most underrated part of this was Gregg’s organ. His comping adds a cool tension to this take on this song. Van would dig this.
My friend and I were here celebrating my 40th birthday. He'd been battling depression the last few years and took his life the other day. I'm reliving some amazing memories from this Wanee. I'll join you for the great gig in the sky someday my friend, rest easy and know you were loved...
Such a soulful singer....Of his own songs as well as covers. This is a great one. And, oh yeah, he plays a bit of guitar as well. The man. One time we had tickets but got turned away by the bouncers at the door at the Majestic Ventura Theater.....We went around the back and Warren snuck us in...Thanks, Man! What a great memory.
I've been watching your videos over & over for weeks since Wanee. You did an awesome job on filming and thanks for sharing. I bought/downloaded both nights concerts and have this year's ABB performance on mp3, CD, on my blackberry, on my computer(s)...pretty much everywhere I go Allman Bros Wanee 2011 go with me. Such great music !!
I've seen them 4 times with 4 different lineups and I always feel incredible watching and listening to true American music. They are one of my favorite bands ever. I'd love to play slide for them someday. jc
This is some pretty damn cool stuff. Thanks for loading it up. I have never watched young Mr Trucks play before. It seems to me he holds his right hand oddly compared to most other guitarists-fingertips folded under his palm. Anyone knowledgeable care to comment? In any event, if he's gonna sound like this he can do whatever he likes onstage.
He almost never uses a pick and has all kinds of interesting right hand techniques, likely stemming from all the muting he has to do while playing slide. He seems to pick individual notes most often with his thumb and index finger, and when 'strumming' he might use just his index finger or 'flick' all 4 of his fingers up and down...it looks pretty bizarre indeed. He has really fantastic control and technique over his righthand - completely unique.
WOW!!! ..man its just awesome to see derek and warren back with the brothers, and glad to see butch and jammo still hangin and bangin and of course gregg. ...ALLMAN BRO"s 4EVER!!!!!
There are so many bad videos on u tube it is pathetic but it never seems to deter the folks who put them up here.Thank you so much for using good equipment and caring enough to learn how to use it. You set a high standard for us all.Great job!
This was the highlight of our weekend. Thank you so much for doing such a wonderful job capturing this for all us Wanee goers. Peace, love, and Wanee my friend.
I can't believe how quiet and unimpressed the crowd is for this, I would have been going nuts after about the first 10 seconds when I realized what they were going to play.
tennisbumojai: got turned away at the Ventura Majestic? Glad you got in anyway, great place to see a show. Shame on them, though! I guess you'all know Derek's been playing since he was nine, 1st paid gig at eleven. Thanks for posting.
I agree in “an extent” other artists are more in tune with Jerry’s covers. However, there is not one single artist who can play master and outshine the original artist regarding all of the styles of music/genre….govt mule isn’t labeled as one of the top similar artists as GD. Warren Haynes is definitely such a unique gem in which only the fortunate were blessed with his genuine wholesome presence and raw live performances to understand how talented he is and most importantly where his soul shines through the most in any and all of his music and performances.
Makes me want to cry to see some of the garbage on youtube that gets millions of views while this video only has 24,000 views. Is there any sanity left in the world?
Suwannee HD Streams Hey, Suwannee I just wanted to add some props here...I've seen alot of amateur videos on here and yours are among the BEST POSTED. If there was awards for quality of posting you would be at the top. I am an ardent ABB fan, even after they've gone, just something about the free form jamming that has me longing for more. I haven't been able to find a band I can dig as much as them and this last incarnation was the best..well, right after the 1st with Duane. If only he'd lived I just imagine what heights ABB wouldve soared. But thank you for all the ABB videos you've put up for us to enjoy...and in HIGH DEF, BABY! Be well, Shawn
I was lucky enough to be at this one...Wondered how many times during the day people find themselves in a situation where a simple sound is making you feel SO WEAK,and SO DAMNED STRONG,all in the same breath?? Let me say it this way...ONE band, with Warren Hayes AND Derek Trucks??Geeeezus Crisco...Talk about the proverbial embarassment of riches..I don't think any band has ever been so perfect with "replacement" members, especially late in the game. So EatAPeach, and grind down some fungus too
For all the deserved acclaim Warren Haynes gets as a guitarist, he's just a criminally underrated vocalist. His interpretation is just a thing of beauty.
Nicely put.

Nicely sung by Warren. The organ playing lays a rich cushion for all the chops.

Check out Michael McDonald's version on his "Soul Speak" cd ...very soulful ..
Warren's face at 6:49 says it all. DAMN!
bonamassa yeaaaaaaaaaaah
Warren Haynes has taken the Allman Bros to another level, w/out Dickey Betts.
Bad audio....I was there, it was great!
oooooooh BALLOONS!!! :0))
fucking awesome
I thought the same thing!!!
Who are the Allman Brothers in 2011? Phenomenal job on a great tune.Van singing would have made it better. But still an awesome version.
Foghorn Leghorn, Blows at Midnight ,well I'll be coming home
Makes me want to cry to see some of the garbage on youtube that gets millions of views while this video only has 24,000 views. Is there any sanity left in the world?
TheMuleHess...he had that face. Good call!
What did the camera set you back? Sounds and looks great!!
maybe about $450 for the camera, $100 for the mic attachment, and used a mic stand instead of a tripod

Derek Trucks is phenomenal. Warren Haynes is no slouch either.
Rather hear Van sing it, but... rather hear Warren and Derrick play it!
Maybe he was hungry, looked like he dropped a few, good stuff sad or happy ;)

Hey, what's with the balloon guy lol
...and not everyone who can afford it cares to risk it at an event like this.
Not everyone can afford good stuff.
And then you have to film it without getting busted.
as the fart horn blows....
what a bunch o .....
