    I love it. Thanks for such a comprehensive overview and commentary. I think the smaller pocket friendly form factor is a plus even with tighter view and no 4K. Loved the low lighting, face tracking and outdoor test. You certainly know your stuff when it comes to the technical detail of the camera and the general use cases for most folks. Thank you !!

    Our church has been using a Mevo for livestreaming for three years. I've been the main "tech guy" and have been livestreaming to TH-cam, Twitter, & RTMP to Facebook ( since Facebook wouldn't allow multi streaming I found a way around it lol). The insane wide angle, ugly 720p (due to Twitter streaming) and horrible low light performance has got me looking into other solutions, so I'm so happy I've come across this video. I think we will stop streaming to Twitter and then use this to upgrade! And hopefully, the app will allow streaming to Facebook & TH-cam simultaneously again :) thanks again! Liked & subscribed!

      Do you have a problem with your Iphone of heating up and then slowing down or turning off. Any remedies.

    • @lilzohan7078
      @lilzohan7078 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eddiekubo5520 I don't experience the iPhone overheating, but I frequently experience the mevo shutting down or losing connection when I am uploading too many graphics too often or too quickly. Also uploading graphics sometimes bogs down the stream, causing it to severely glitch and buffer. We recently got this new little mevo, but we are afraid we got a bad copy as it is so hard to connect to it, and after being connected to it after 15 minutes the connection will drop. We are going to return it and hope to get one that isn't broken, although I'm tempted to move to another service and stream with a better camera. I can't complain too much tho, this mevo and our set up has usually been reliable and quick at our church, including for a funeral with many many people tuned into TH-cam and Facebook that never lost connection.

  • @BRATCH77

    Excellent video, as someone that pre-ordered the first gen Mevo, I'm very interested in how the Mevo Start works. One thing I would really love to see is a comparison of the Mevo's wide-angle view vs. the Start. Honestly, the Start is the camera I really need, but the narrower camera angle may not work for me.
    It should also be noted, the Boost isn't needed for anything. Any micro-USB hubs/devices can be plugged into the Mevo charge port. I actually have a shotgun mic running through a mini USB sound card with a 20k mAh battery pack charging the Mevo and powering the sound card running through a USB hub. Can even add on a USB ethernet adapter if needed. As long as you get a battery pack with enough power to charge the Mevo, you are good to go. No $250 Boost required.

    • @photojoseph
      @photojoseph  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    can i ask about picture quality specifically. If i plan to never use this camera for live stream, but instead for pre-recorded studio programmes which i want the best image quality, am i better off with the mevo plus? i will be using an external microphone but i have no problems spending a little extra money on the extra battery for the plus for the added mic input if i will be rewarded with better image quality. would love to know your thoughts? • @photojoseph
      @photojoseph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's better quality because you're not punching into the sensor as much. It might be better quality just because it's newer tech, too. But don't expect it to be AMAZING compared to the Plus. Number one thing you can do to make your video look better with these cameras is to ADD LIGHT. They perform poorly in low light.

      @@photojoseph tell me more - what you do means the algorithm won? BTW Was the live show with Mevo? And if someone uses Mevo Start for new live shows, will youtube or facebook love live videos and boost it ?

    • @photojoseph
      @photojoseph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maryt, the youtube algorithm is complicated and purposefully opaque. No one *knows* what it's doing, but people make a ton of money trying to figure it out and tell everyone else what it's doing! What I've learned is that youtube likes live videos when they are live but then doesn't like them afterwards. Basically, don't expect a lot of love for a previously-live show. Over the last couple of years my format has been to do the live show, then pull it down, edit a short version and upload that. Did OK but it's a lot of work for a show that's not as good as if I shot and edited it separately. I almost never got more than 100 viewers for a live show so I have changed my format now. Live will just be AMA/Q&A style shows, with the main meat being in edited shows. If you have a massive channel, like @MKBHD, you can go live and have thousands of people watching… but he's got 10 million subs, so ;-)

    Hi, sorry for the last "test" but on "conventional" Google (cf Chrome) I often get an "error returned" message. I would be using the Mevo mainly for recording bass covers to songs and then subsequent uploading to TH-cam. • @photojoseph
      @photojoseph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. Correct that you need HDMI on the ATEM. But since the Mevo does NDI, if there's an NDI to HDMI converter (opens Google… searches… finds several but in the $400+ price range) then that should work. But I'd say your odds of keeping a mevo over NDI in sync with a direct connected camera would be slim to none.

    Thanks for the video. I am looking to use this in an educational setting with simulation. We will be in a simulated hospital setting. Would this camera have the ability to have a wide shot of the room, with a close up shot in the corner of the screen of the bedside monitor all at once? This would allow the students to see the full simulation while being able to keep an eye on the monitor.

    • @photojoseph
      @photojoseph  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like way too much of a difference. Even a bedroom size room with a screen in the corner would be like 5% of the image. On a 1920 wide feed, you'd be looking at just under 100 pixels. That would NOT be readable, at all. If you need viewers to see a screen, set up a two camera shoot and either do a picture-in-picture or a simultaneous second stream.

    Hey Joseph, thanks for the video. Looking to record and livestreaam my band's performance in multiple lighting environments. I recently purchased the mevo plus, but do to quarantine, haven't been able to test it out. Would you suggest returning it? I was told at the store that the camera was great for low-lighting. It seems that perhaps I was conned. I am attracted to the wide angle and the autopilot follow function, since we will be performing and will not be using the phone to live edit. Do you think that the start is a better solution for this purpose? I'd like to get all three band members into the frame, and have the camera follow us as much as possible. Ideally, the microphone could pickup the performance somewhat clearly as well, but for studio livestreaming, was planning on utilizing OBS, with audio coming from the mixer. Thoughts?

      @photojoseph  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Minky. This camera is for live streaming, so it's not the right tool for recording videos. If you want to record yourself making art, you could either use your smartphone and put it on a tripod (just google "smartphone tripod" and you'll see a million options), which would work well if you're painting or sculpting or anything like that. If you want to film top-down, like if you're drawing on a desk, then look at something like this amzn.to/2yaBK96 to hold your phone pointing down. There's so much more to posting videos on youtube though than just filming, that I honestly wouldn't say it's something to do to try to earn money right now. Just being realistic; if your reason to do this is to earn money, it's going to take a long time and a lot of work before you start seeing anything coming in. If you're just doing it to share your passion for art, then that's a great reason to do it. Good luck!

    If i stream up to youtube. What bit rate is the stream? Is there a 4K version to come i wonder?

    • @photojoseph
      @photojoseph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      6Mbit is what the chart says, and I don’t see a way to adjust that. It won’t do 4K because the camera itself is only HD. But the Mevo Plus also streams only in HD, while having a 4K camera. Important to understand that the 4K camera on the Plus is a super wide field of view. You _have_ to punch into it for a normal shot, meaning you’re only using a portion of the sensor; pretty much an HD portion. Then you’re streaming in HD. The Start only has an HD sensor, but the lens isn’t as wide, so it’s usable at full width. Watch the live show that I did from this camera; it’s linked in the description and at the end of this video. You’ll see it in real life that way.
