    Thank for answering my question Jason! Great video.

      Also while we are on the topic of shotgun mics. Do you notice and significant battery drain while using the shotgun mic?

      Saw no difference in the start Friday night. It was on for over 4 hours

      And really I imagine the higher quality shotguns would do even better. When I was reading thru your thread on FB it was one of those obvious video tests to do!

      I was going to give it a try this coming weekend and you beat me to it. I've got your cold shoe mounts made up for the start as well. Thanks again for all the videos and help.

    Another question. When you use the 3.5 mm mic input with the shotgun mic do you use Stereo or mono? I would assume mono.

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All I know about it is I’m running trrs to trs to usb-c to get it from the videomic me to the start. This particular version of RODE mini shotgun was actually meant to plug into an iPad back when they had 3.5mm inputs.

    Great video Jason! Alright, you have convinced me I need to have one of these for our softball game live stream. Does the microphone connect into the Mevo? I have a Mevo Plus which I power with a power pack feeding the USB micro port. Do I need some kind of splitter to connect both the microphone and the power pack into the Mevo?
    Thanks!

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the compliment! Lemme make sure I understand your setup: Mevo Plus powered by a 3rd party battery, not the Boost? If so, you're best bet may be to run the mini shotgun into your tablet/phone. Only having the micro-usb port on the Plus is a limiting factor for sure. Amazon has an adapter called CABLEDECONN HDMI to VGA DVI HDMI Converter Adapter. I have absolutely no experience with it, but it does have a micro usb pigtail, power in and audio port. Good luck on the streaming!

    • @donaldantosiewicz5784
      @donaldantosiewicz5784 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. You are correct, I use a 3rd party power source and not the Boost. I was hoping to plug the mic into the Mevo Plus so I could have the entire setup together on the fence. I would rather not have the mic plugged into the phone I am using to control the Mevo app.

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe the adapter? Wish I could be more help!

    I am going to try streaming my first softball game tomorrow. A Rode Videomicro is waiting at home. I just read that these mic's require phantom power, and that the Mevo Start does not provide that power. Do you know anything about this? Was really hoping I could use the mic. Thanks for any info!

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the RODE VideoMic Me, which is almost identical to the videomicro. Under the ‘power’ column in each of their specs, they both list ‘supplied by device’. Whatever the mic needs, the Mevo is supplying. I have run it plugged into the 3.5mm jack as well as adapted into the usb-c port. Enjoy your streaming!

    Thanks for the info! I need to start streaming my daughters basketball and softball games. TH-cam doesn't let me stream from my phone unless I have 1,000 subscribers. Plus I want to use my phone separately during the games. So I'm looking for the easiest all-in-one setup. Everything doesn't have to be perfect, but it needs to be watchable or it doesn't do any good. I was leaning towards the Mevo Start but still not sure. :-) What would you recommend if you had to choose only one?
    And I'll use a tripod for basketball games and LynkSpyder for the softball games.

    • @JasonHoffmanYT

      @@JasonHoffmanYT Thanks Jason! I saw in another video that you don't actually use the LynkSpyder. I'm going to upgrade the microphone as well. Any suggestions about the basketball games? Like is there a way to have the camera automatically follow the action? Thanks again!

    • @JasonHoffmanYT

      Another user and I were working on getting it to follow the referee when paired with the Pivo. Mevo’s face follow wont work for this but the Pivo has body follow. I haven’t been able to make a basketball game because of family events but that’s the only solution I can come up with for following

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t. Our softball games are at the same time as our baseball games. There are several Mevo Start softball users out there tho.

      @@JasonHoffmanYT will the mevo start be able to cover the entire infield like my gopro. I've read that it doesn't have a wide angle lens like the gopro

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toddhollenbeck8361 It doesn’t have as wide a view as the GoPro. Start is 84 degree FOV. But looking at Ed Quinene’s softball posts on the Mevo Customer Support Group on FB, it handles softball very well. Some depends on how much room you have behind the plate, but you wouldn’t have to back off very far to get 1st to 3rd shot.

    Jason, I have the Rode micro which I'm trying to use with the Start. I plug it into the 3.5 aux only Mevo-22T4C and Ipad microphone appears. Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong. Thanks

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless another option appears in the ‘Edit Inputs’ link in the bottom of the audio settings, choosing mevo microphone will get the input correct. The 3.5mm port disables the built in mics. You can test by lightly scratching on the screen of the micro and watching what the audio levels do. Scratching similarly on the Mevo where the mics are should let you know which is active.
