  • The small village of Trawsfynydd in Snowdonia, North Wales once boasted three railway stations on the Bala to Ffestiniog Railway.
Trawsfynydd Station was open between 1882 and 1960, Trawsfynydd Camp Station, just for military use was open between 1911 and 1960, and Trawsfynydd Lake Halt was open from 1934 to 1960 to encourage tourists to the lake. The line closed in 1961.
The line north of Trawsfynydd Lake Halt was reopened in 1964 to service a new nuclear Flask Depot for Trawsfynydd Power Station which lasted until 1998.
There are plenty of relics to see, abandoned platforms, gas lamps, railway fencing, buffer stops and overgrown tracks.

Brilliant. I know the area as a tourist and have always been fascinated by the old railway links. I've seen the track, the walk east toward Llyn Celyn on the old viaducts is amazing. Thanks.

@@RWHTrains I saw your Llandderfel station was very interesting, we walked towards the tunnel that way but was stopped by a stream going across the pathway, so found a route coming from the other side

Great video on this interesting area. I can't make out the goods shed and engine shed, have they been rebuilt beyond recognition?

Thanks glad you like the video. In the shot where the caption is about the goods shed, the shed is the grey building in the centre of the picture. I believe it has been heavily modified and unfortunately access is not good as its within an industrial compound. It's also hard to see from the side as it is a lot higher up than road level

@@RWHTrains Many thanks for your reply. Sometimes they will build a new shed around the old one so the owner can continue on with their business, then when it is built they can finally demolish the old buildings. It's totally changed so who knows. It's frustrating when you can't get close to somewhere like this. The little one road shed had been there for years.

Saw one in Bakewell recently which had all new extensions on it. Such a shame. I went on a Saturday morning when the place was still open. Probably when it's shut you can get a better view from the gates

@@RWHTrains Yes indeed. They have fairly recently fitted a new roof on Denbigh engine shed and sadly it's lost a big part of it's identity, I suppose to have replaced it with all those vents would have cost the earth. I was also sorry to see Mold Junction shed had recently gone.

Not seen Denbigh shed for a while. I had heard about Mold Junction and Bangor as well recently demolished
