Welcome to the insanity that is OFF
this game is a landmark of the rpg maker horror genre! a lot of creators cite it as an inspiration, when it got popular off introduced a lot of western fans to games like yume nikki, ib, misao, etc (i wouldnt consider this game horror but yknow). fun fact! this game was originally in french and youre playing the most recent translation. the original translation most people played was much more awkwardly written. the 'id rather not say' gender option is new in this version! very cool of them to add
It's always awesome seeing games have more inclusive options like that. At some point, I'll need to check out both Yume Nikki and Misao! Might hop into either of those after we finish OFF. Still, it's really fun getting to check out one of the early RPGmaker games out there!

Hahah, don't get too excited! I'll probably do a "quick look" of YIIK at some point once I feel comfortable enough to start drinking again, but I don't plan on doing a full playthrough of it at the very least. But yeah, I'm excited to check out the rest of OFF, it's fun so far!
I JUST started playing this game last week to help me learn French (playing the original translation) and I am 100% sure I have some type of curse

WAIT they added an option for gender-neutral pronouns?!?! oh my god that makes me so happy!!! i played an older version of the translation way back in 2013, and it only let you choose between boy or girl (the only thing this actually affects is whether the characters in the game to refer to you as he/him or she/her), and while i get why it was like that in the original (not 100% sure, but i believe there is no gender-neutral, third person singular pronoun in french??), i'm glad they updated the translation to be more inclusive since i always felt uncomfortable having to choose between two sets of pronouns i'm not comfortable with :')))
Right? I was a bit surprised upon seeing it since I think this game is older, but it's a very welcome addition! Would love to see more games have more inclusive options when it comes to this sorta thing!

This is one of my favorite games, so I am grateful that you have decided to give it a shot!
It's a weird one, certainly, and it might not get the amount of attention that Lisa would, but I will certainly give this my fullest attention!
The thing about OFF is that it was the RPG that inspired Lisa, Undertale, Omori. This was one of the firsts! Excited to see you played it.
My favorite rpg
OFF isn't inspired by earthbound/mother,the dev Mortis never played earthbound/mother series,it's a pretty common missconception
it's inspired by the silent hill series,wich can be seen here and there
also to answer some of the questions/info
-OFF came in 2008,it got a english translation in 2012
-the people you refer to,the white suited peeps are called elsens since you find them at the elsen station
-Elsens have a deaise as confirmed by mortis,wich would explain thier heavy breathing/"..."
-Elsens are very anxious beings,wich explains thier wierd behavior
-The row option works like this,there's two rows:back and front row,front row aka the one you start in makes you deal more damage but take less damage,the back row makes you deal less damage but also makes you deal less damage
-the action bar thing is affected by your partys speed
-OFF has a auto feature since it's made in rpgmaker 2003 only mechanic,auto makes your party attack on thier own
makeing it good for grinding!
-some things are pixelated while some are hand drawn is a stylistic choice,if you like mortis ghost style then i recomend checking out his other works
-you're playing the 3.0 version wich is...sorta controversial,it takes a more literal approach at translateing the game+some changes to things like balanceing and some enemys,i stil prefer 2.0 over it
-the add ons&batter have thier competences(skills) be themed after something,the batters are well obs after baseball

Not yet! I'm still incredibly nervous, getting back into the swing of things, so we'll be easing back into videos before putting the facecam back up. We'll probably knock out a few playthroughs and then return to having it on!
