I’ve had my industrial for like 2 years now and it’s the most bipolar piercing I have. Some days it’s healed and other days it’s swollen and has bumps. My friends and I joke around that it’s alive and that “she’s her own woman with her own thoughts” and have gone as far as to name it “Barb the bar.”
My industrial did the same closer to the 3 year mark. It’s 6 years old now and it still does it sometimes. My piercer told me that is pretty common and that industrials usually have a short life span.
i kinda want to change out my industrial to two pieces of jewelry and idk when i should do that. it feels like itll never be at that state where its healed up and ready to change 😭
A note about tea tree oil , it can be toxic to pets so if you use it just make sure you wash you hands well after you apply and don’t use it on an area you pet might lick or can otherwise be exposed to.
I agree with everything you said, Gretchen. I got a bump on my daith piercing three days ago. I had it pierced in the beginning of February and it was healing fine. I think I must have put a lot of pressure on it in my sleep 🧐 Anyway, I’ve used the sea salt solution on it every day, twice per day, and it’s almost gone. Don’t panic guys, it will be fine as long as you take care of it responsibly.
Alleykat108 I get a tiny bit of cotton ball and soak it with the solution. Then I place the lukewarm cotton ball inside my ear, right up to my piercing and press gently. Sometimes I let it sit for an hour, other days I let it sit for 15 minutes. I tried the shot glass method but that doesn’t work for me AT ALL lol. That just gives me neck pain.
@@fantage.rachel1599 No I never removed the piercing. I don’t recommend doing that because there’s a possibility that you could spread the infection and close the wound. It healed up in about two weeks time.
I have a question, I stopped touching it I am scared of the skin is going to heal covering the stud Bc I don’t push it and all I see is a big bump on my nose :(
Good information but I need to add a couple of things. First off there is a third type of bump. An abscess or cyst from a minor infection. These may require medical attention and need to be lanced and drained by a medical professional. Not you or your piercer but a medical professional. Also, using qtips can in fact cause infection, bumps and other issues. The worst is when strands of cotton products begin to attach to the jewelry and piercing. The best options are a tightly weaved sterile gauze sponge or a clean brand new paper towel. With bumps they are usually the reaction to something. Often if you do not remove the cause, the bump will return or worsen. It is always best to see your piercer and have them take a look. Sometimes a quick jewelry change or a better explanation of how to clean and take care of the piercing, will resolve the issue.
Best way to get rid of it is LITHA: leave it the hell alone! Oils shouldn't really go near puncture wounds, even diluted tea tree oil is too strong and a lot of times irritation bumps come back after a while. Same with aspirin as you said
my toxic trait is knowing that it’s the fact that i am wearing a hoop which is causing it but i’m so attached to it because i’m getting so many compliments and i don’t want to put a stud back
I was up all night thinking it was a keoloid. Tho it has been just shy of a month and half since my piercing. I even texted my piercer at 5 in the morning Even tho I know I shouldn't panic so hard
Wanna share my tipps: If you feel like it’s really infected try using tyrosur. Get yourself a u-formed pillow so you can rest your ear over the hole while sleeping. Definitely less bumps and irritations. I also can recommend no-pull piercing disks and prontolind spray & gel. Please don’t use tea oil or any other disinfectants than prontolind or other qualified brands. I personally never really stop cleaning my piercings, just get the prontolind spray and spray it on once a day, not an effort.
This is wayyy more informative than most videos I've seen! My eyebrow piercing was doing perfectly fine other than getting irritated from sleeping on it and was great for MONTHS. and then out of nowhere, it started to form a bump on both sides and it feels impossible to get rid of! I'm a very slow healer and have only had this happen one other time on my industrial, that one went away! But this, being on my face is just really annoying. Hopefully these methods works!! Thanks for the video ❤
@@trithaopham9301 surgery actually isnt as effective as other solutions, so thats usually a last resort since its costly and also have a chance to even form a keloid on the surgery sight BECAUSE of the surgery
I had a piercing bump that developed on the back of my conch piercing. I used the aspirin mixture to treat it, and it did work for me. Everyone is different, so someone else may not have the same experience, but it definitely helped mine. I used it two nights in a row and then it went away. I got a piercing bump on my daith and tried the aspirin mixture but it wasn’t very effective for that spot. I used the homemade salt solution for salt soaks and it went away.
Same here: I have a triple conch and I had a bump developed on the back of one of them. The aspirin method worked beautifully! It did not work on my anti-tragus at all tho 🤷♀️
I have to figure out something for my daith ! It was so perfect for the first 4 weeks. I stopped using my neilmed then when I went for my 8 week check up it has just started forming a little hypertrophic bump. My piercer said continue to use the salon solution and keep it clean. But it just didn’t go down then corona happened and they haven’t been open since. I’m at a loss 😭 it’s been 9.5 months!
My piercer didn’t even warn me about piercing bumps so I tried tea tree oil but it was way too harsh for my skin even diluted so it dried it out and now it is super dry and hard but still stuck to my face. I put vitamin E oil on it because someone said that can help the healing process so I’m hoping that helps. Also, I’ve been using wayyy too much salt so I’m super embarrassed.
My piercer told me mine was fine to change it at the 2 month mark so I did and a few weeks after I got this huge keloid/bump! I got it to go away but I think I was being to harsh on the aftercare and it came back but smaller this time
@@sihleashleykunene5858 hey! I would apply a mixture/paste of tea tree oil and sea salt and leave it on the bump at night to dry it. On top of that, I stopped doing the sea salt soaks twice a day and instead once at the end of day. I figured my skin was too sensitive so even the sea salt was inflaming the bump even more. After the bump fell off as a scab (thanks tea tree oil) I started doing the soaks only once every 2 days. I've been 1 whole month keloid free!
I've had my cartilage piercing for 2 years. It just got infected and developed a bump, I'm not sure why but it was sore and raw so I took the earring out... I'm gonna go buy a gold earring and try the saline solution. Thank you!
i found out that i had a pustule instead of a keloid. after your video my helix cartilage piercing has been getting better. i was using Himalayan salt for my ear and it seemed fine but it kept coming back. now i know to use all natural sea salt.
great advice, I have a small pustule on my 25 year old helix that got tapered, I just wash it , don't touch it, and spray it with salt water, don't touch it guys, just leave it alone if youre really impatient, taking a piercing out will immediately resolve the bump regardless of what people say about trapping infection, it will not.
I had my first piercing 27 days ago. Gretchen, says everything right. Sometimes it bleeds, has crusties, sometimes it feels like healed. But Neilmed works for me.
Mine is a red bump most likely granuloma I’ve had for a couple months, I’ve done warm compresses and regular cleaning. Its nearly went away and came back a few times. Super annoying, hopefully it goes away for good soon.
@@adeoyekehinde248 yes it took a very long time. I had the original one in that I was pierced with for about a year. One morning it ripped out and I lost it. I went to a tattoo shop and explained what was going on. They gave me a new stud that I put in and it went away, never came back. This was in October of 2021. I'm happy it didn't come back I was for f to take it out
I knew my body hated piercings when I was in the 3rd grade and had to get my first holes pierced three times because they continued to heal over. So of course later on I decide to get 7 more... I somehow managed to get a keloid, granuloma AND pustule. Honestly I blame myself for getting them in a short period of time and going to shady piercing shops to save money. Had one man put awful jewelry in me and the other didn't disinfect the site or lube the needle. They aren't painful anymore but they sure are ugly, ugh.
Just in case anyone stumbles across this. I had a piercing bump my nose for 5 months. I tried everything... finally my piercer mentioned maybe we should change from surgical steel to implant grade titanium jewelry. It went away within a week 🤦🏼♀️
A piercer should not be using surgical steel as a first choice anyways. Titanium is the standard for piercers along with platinum. Surgical steel is something a kid would buy on amazon thinking its the best metal for the piercing because it says surgical
@@p0cket4rt She is a piercer and tattoo artist at a tattoo shop that had great reviews so I thought it would be good. The tattoos are great there, but yeah definitely not going back for another piercing ever.
I got my nose pierced probably over a two years ago and i got hypertrophic scar/bump and the piercing in general feels like it won’t heal the bump went away and then came back after I accidentally ripped the nose ring out putting my top on but i use unscented dial soap to clean the bump and then i put tea tree oil on the bump only not the piercing hole and it’s been going down I’ve been so tempted to pop it because it looks like a white head but im glad i watched this video cause I probably would have messed it up.
I am so freakin grateful for this video. got my daith (can we talk about why ppl call this "Dah-th" plz) about a month ago (double-masked in the studio and no one else was allowed in, just me and piercer, not even waiting room!). this is the first time I've had a piercing do the scary bumps and it's super gross. I was 100% panicking so I feel much more reassured after having watched this. patience really is key and I needed that reminder! thank youuuu
Wow yes my Daith piercing was my worst piercing as far as a problem healer . It developed 2 huge bumps that were very red on either hike of the piercing . I tried so hard with my piercer to bring this piercing back to its healthy state , but nothing would!! So my piercing came to the conclusion it would be best to remove the jewelry , let it close up , and have it repierced after a couple of months. Once the jewelry was removed the bumps quickly disappeared. I had the piercing done again a couple of years ago and haven’t had any issues with it, it healed perfectly well!! I was so happy as my daith piercing is definitely one of my favorite piercings I have!
I changed my nose piercing after 2 months and that piercing about 2 weeks later I accidentally removed it like 3 times while i was sleeping and it started forming a bump and on top it was like gray bump but no pus or anything I thought it was infected but I literally took my piercing out and touched both sides and I was panicking because it had a bump I thought I had a keloid but thank god I found this video it definitely makes me feel better and especially the comments
My worst (and only) bump was/is on my navel piercing. Its 2 years old, but I'm still getting pustules occasionally (in fact, I just got another one this week). So I guess thats proof that even semi-old piercings can get bumps.
@@roselynromero9385 so i found a way to geniunely make it gone (with some scar tissue) now. but it sounds like one of those organic fake science hoaxes. basically i put a jojoba oil/vitamin e diy mixture whenever did have a blister. eventually it stopped raising/swelling and is now plain flat (well as flat as belly button skin can be) skin for the past 6+ months
I got my lobes pierced back in September. I know they're supposed to be easy piercings, but honestly they've been so much trouble. They would always get crusty and back in early February, they both developed bumps. I've been using Neilmed on them ever since I got them pierced, but for some reason they love being a pain. I got some tea tree oil diluted with almond oil I'm going to try. It's just frustrating because they're supposed to be easy piercing and all the piercing shops are closed right now, so I can't go have them take a look.
msflutegirl13 I got my lobes pierced last February and they’re still not completely healed! I know a few people who have had the same issue so you’re definitely not alone!
It happened the same thing w/ my ear lobe piercings..I got them done in February and it’s June and I have these nasty bumps around them :( I’m so frustrated right now..I’ve tried putting aspiring on it and also tea tree oil but nothing seems to help..do you have any recommendations that worked for you?
you got them in September so maybe try one day when they look kinda okay get some longer earrings than the ones u have and that are made of other metal, and yes ur right lobe piercings are the easiest thing ever. Hope it helps. Or u could also just continue with the aftercare and see if it gets better, if it doesnt maybe go see ur piercer
I've just developed a bump on the back of my conch piercing after my 6 month old accidentally headbutted my ear. Totally gutted as it was healing up so nicely. 😂 Thanks for the hope.
At first I didn't think much of the bump, but cause it's been there for a couple of weeks, I started to realise something is off with the healing of my piercing. Saw a lot of the videos using seas salt. Definitely gonna try this out
I've had my industrial for about a month and a half and I just developed a little bump on one of the holes and I've been PANICKING so much over it. I definitely need to remember that this piercing can be finicky and I just need to keep cleaning it like normal
Thank you so much for this video. I just got a nosepiercing with a ring. I watched a lot of videos about nosepiercings saying you should never pierce with a ring because you will get a bump. I am very strict in cleaning so i am a little bit more relaxed now. Thank you
Did you ever develop a bump? I also had mine pierced with a hoop and I have a bump. It gives me anxiety but I am having to just realize that it will be ok as long as I leave it alone and spray it with H2Ocean a few times a day. It's only been 3 weeks. I'm also going to try to the tea tree/aspirin/H2Ocean concoction.
Yeah me too. I got my piercing like a month ago, with a ring… and I also developed an bumb. The thing is, it’s not getting bigger or smaller, it’s literally just the same, and it’s been there for like a week now.. I’m using a sea salt solution twice a day. I live in Denmark, so most of the things that y’all want me to get, is something we don’t have here, and if I have to buy it online, I have to pay extra just to get it here, and that’s something o can not afford tho…
Thank you!! I just got pierced at the end of March and I'm sooooo impatient lol watching this is making me more patient. I will try the salt water soak!
I have had my piercing for about a year now. I saw a bump about six months ago. I will admit that I was lazy with after care, as my lobes didn’t need it. The cartilage (tragus) is a different animal. I may also have slept on it. I have the black saline solution, and am using it more regularly. I'll look into those other items. Thank you.
Back again, lol. I’m sleeping with a neck pillow to avoid an irritation with sleeping on my side, but I struggle so much with not wearing headphones with tragus piercings. I’m using the Neil Med. This should be my nasty piercing ever, ha ha. (This is the tragus on the other side now.)
Hello , I got my lobe pierced awhile ago , but I stopped putting an earring in it because it was to painful. I’ve had a bump on it for awhile . My other bump on my other ear is very small , but this one is larger , I don’t really know what to do . I would really appreciate some help : ))
Sam Heyoo i would contact a piercing place, i don’t know what the bump looks like so i can’t be much of help. but it could be a bump caused by a piercing, it could be an allergic reaction to something, or it could be a cyst or pimple which is common with lobes. but again, contact a piercer and ask for advice because i can’t help that much ):
@@eridel899 when i had a bump on my nose i used the band-aid adhesive strips (leaves them on for whole 24 hours at a time) and cleaned it with saline solution whenever they weren’t on my nose. most people wouldn’t leave them on for as long as i did also walgreens has a brand of the same thing but i heard they were better. if that doesn’t work it might be because there are a couple different types of piercing bumps and the same treatments might not work for all of them
@@maggiestorz6892 I have those types of band aids. My top bump is like semi heal atm cause I’ve been using chamomile tea bag for the top of my nose. The inside I don’t see any changes besides it’s still the same size. Do you think in order to heal the inside bump of my nose piercing, I have to heal the top bump first?
@@eridel899 i’m not an expert but maybe the inside isn’t healing bc it’s harder to access it since it’s all the way in your nose. idk if it would help to heal the outside completely first or if the 2 are unrelated but i would def just worry ab the outside first since that bump people will see. also if you’re not already try using a-tips when you clean it to really get the area you want to clean..idk how you would get the chamomile tea bag on it tho if that’s what really helped the outside
Been struggling with my lip piercings ever since I got them back in November and even considered taking them out. I think at one point I had been cleaning them too much and it caused irritation, but I was so afraid of having another bad experience like when I had my ears pierced forever ago. There's this swelling that happens on and off, which I've figured is just linked to irritants. I'm glad I did some research and found this video, thank you for making this.
@@stormvalkyrie9631 me too!! I've had problems w my lip piercing ever since i got it, i changed the jewelry on my own (bad choice) it was to small and it hurted me si u took I out, now i still have the bump!:(
Piercings, especially cartilage piercings have a mind of their own. I have a 13 year old cartilage piercing that I slept on one too many nights in a row, it swelled up a bit (normal), and then I decided to touch the back of the piercing (without washing my hands as I was out-STUPID ROOKIE MISTAKE), and it got infected. Now the doctor prescribed antibiotics as it was infected (which I knew), and the infection is clearing up but guess what? Bum bum buuuuummmm-bubble on the back 🙄. So what I do is take the back of the post earring off during the day, remove the jewelry at night, warm compress, salt solution in the morning and night. I sanitize the post with rubbing alcohol before putting it back in my ear as I do with all jewelry before putting it it, and once the bubble goes down a little more and I finish this antibiotic ensuring the infection is gone I’ll put the back, back on. I never comment on videos but I wanted to reiterate your point to WASH YOUR HANDS. Even with healed cartilage piercings they can get irritated with sleeping on them funny and infected if they swell, the jewelry cuts them a little and you touch them with dirty hands. Wash. Your. Hands. People ^_^
I decided today that I CAN'T have piercings. My ears are extremely delicate and my piercing holes heal COMPLETELY and close in ONE day. I can't remove my piercings and sometimes I want a rest, and can't have it. I had 4 and removed 1 friday and on saturday, it was closed, and noooooow, I removed another one because it was hurting. I can't anymore ):
Ok is it normal to still have these bumps after three years of having it? Sometimes when I change the rings out it bleeds and is tender almost all of the time!
my piercers all have told me to use hydrogen peroxide and I did use it at first, but my piercing bump was always irritated and now that I have stopped using it and started using diluted tea tree oil my piercing feels like its finally calming down.
I always get a bump sometime it goes down then sometimes it comes back so I hope these help! It always worries me though because I've had it for 3 years
Something that gets me really mad is at one point I had spent a bunch of money on piercings and I’ll admit I didn’t know much about them and ended up getting keloids. But the only piercings I have are my lobes from Claire’s😅
I saw your video. This was so helpful. I have a noise piercing...over night that damn bump formed. Freaked me out. But I will take what you shared and continue my cleaning routine as usual. I just mad because I find it to be so cute and now this bump is in the way. Plus I think you are adorable. 💕
So I had my nose done, piercer put in a “ corkscrew” piece of jewelry anyways I was treating it like an egg being so careful. One day I was in the shower NOT washing my face or doing anything with my face. All the sudden I heard something metal hit the tub floor I looked around didn’t see anything so I finished showering and got out ... bitch when I looked in the mirror THE NOSE PIERCING WAS GONE I panicked and went to the tub and it was there ! I picked it up dipped it in some rubbing alcohol and tried putting it back in... 25 mins of struggling with it and watching videos I could not get it in. I had 2 options .. try to put my horseshoe lip piercing in that I knew was the same gauge so it doesn’t close or just let it close and possibly get it redone ( which I knew I wasn’t going to want to do ) so I put the horseshoe in it slid right in, went to spencers and some L shaped piercings and some hoops for when it heals. I could not get the L shape ones in either !!!!! So in the hoop goes and I’m hoping I don’t wake up with a keloid in a few months ( it’s been 2 1/2 months already ) wish me luck .. also side note I got my piercing done in my home state when I was visiting family so couldn’t go back and they had since re closed like most places because of covid. I can’t even go to another shop until the one near me opens back up there is a tattoo shop that is open but they don’t do piercings there ofc 🙄
I got my flat pierced a month ago and a bump is forming. I'm so dumb and thought I could pop it... Bad idea. I've been using salt soaks for 10 mins twice a day since I got it done but it STILL formed a bump. This video has given me hope haha, I just ordered some tea tree oil and I'm gonna continue cleaning it regularly. Thanks!
I just got mine pierced like a month and a half ago and I stopped using my saline like an idiot. but I just noticed a small red bump yesterday. I'm currently trying the chamomile method has anyone ever heard of it
Same. I have to wear a mask at work and when I take it off on breaks the mask snags my ring. Cloth masks make me sweaty and makes it hard to breath... considering I work around big industrial ovens.
Same. My first nose piercing did the same- I used saline wipes and tea tree oil and it eventually went away. This time nothing is seeming to work and it gets worse when I have to go into work because I’m masked up for hours.
That would be extremely rare. You maybe allergic to the anti-clumping agents they add to sea salt. I would suggest using a premixed saline like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray. Do not use H2ocean or other products that are not pure saline and use food preservatives. People with food allergies can have issues. The other option is you are using too much salt. I've found that 1/8 of a teaspoon per cup of distilled water is a better option for most people.
Neilmed has been the best. I had an infected daith with huge bumps on either side. 4 days in and it's almost gone everything else made it worse so from now on I won't waver
I have a piercing bump inside of my left nostril that was just pierced 3 weeks ago. All was well until my fiancee accidentally knocked my nose with his noggin a week ago and literally the next day a bump appeared 🙄 I've been using the Nielmed spray twice a day still, not touching it of course. My nose isn't sore or crusting anymore so that's good at least.
i keep accedently waking up and rubbing my face and rubbing it out of my face. then i’ll accedently dry my face too roughly and the same thing happens.
I just found this video yesterday and i am trying the sea salt paste and cleaning with sea salt water. Day 2 of the paste and the bump on my nose is like melting off. I was about to take it out when i came on your video so thank you❤
I had gotten the cutest septum clicker that was crescent shaped. I wore it for days and a days and after a while my piercing started getting irritated because the sides are tapered and the ring kept twisting and agitating the holes. I changed it out for a plain circular barbell and I’m making sure to continue with the saline spray. I’m hoping it clears up. Such a pain in the neck considering I just got my conch pierced and I’m dealing with healing that. 😖
Thanks a lot! I was putting a lot of salt in the shot glass. Now I know 1/4 of teaspoon. It’s so annoying when my nipples gets pimples . And I do squeeze the yellow mess out than treat it. Now I know it’s a no no, this my second day of treatment. With the extra warm water with sea salt. It’s clearing up. I just hope it don’t come back. I change my piercing without washing my hands and the ring was gold and after that I was getting problems. I finally changed my piercing and started treating it. So I hope by next week it looks better.
I'm in the process of healing lobe piercing 3 did number 3 to correct placement of 2 done years ago having issues with 1 nothing really bad no infection I'm trying Colloidal silver the kind you can ingest and taking my jewelry out over night with no problem putting it back in the morning so I'm not sleeping on it I don't recommend taking jewlery out before your healed I'm at healing and its ear lobes. Having less irritation things are getting better
I’ve had my nostril pierced for two months and just now developed a small keloid. My piercer told me to just dab a little Melaleuca oil on it before I go to bed. Next morning peel the dry skin off and then dab the area once again with Melaleuca oil. I did that for the first time last night and this morning the bump is practically gone. So happy 😀 👍🏽
I've had bumps on my industrial for like 4 years, however I've managed to get rid of all but one with an INCREDIBLY slow process of using salt water soaks, this last one is super stubborn is it a keloid do u think or just a bump like the rest ??
Same. I have a stubborn bump too. My piercing is perfectly healed but the bump is still there. It came around about 6 months in but that was because I started neglecting aftercare with the sea salt water soaks and only washed and rinsed it in the shower. Started noticing a little bump and immediately continued doing the sea salt treatment again and it went away and was a lot flatter. It's still small and flat , and not hard at all but does feel and look like a tiny bump.
Okay so what if I was a dummy and took my piercing out cause it was getting a huge red/bloody bump?! Now I feel like I need to try and put it back in 😭🤦🏽♀️
I wouldn’t recommend taking your piercing out especially if you are still in the healing process, just leave it alone if not this will immediately make your piercing heal and it won’t be able to put it in if you feel you need to take it out go to your local piercer to take it out
I wish I had seen this before! I have had a nostril piercing but had to remove it due to this bump that appeared and got bigger and bigger and BIGGER. It was a nightmare. Later on I got another piercing and got a similar bump again and removed it one more time. Any advice? Maybe I could’ve tried these methods... ugh
Like 2 months and a half ago I got my nose pierced. My piercer say I could change it only after minimum of two months. I canged it two days ago, she said it was really well heal but ofcs I got irritation and a bit of blood from the inside while changing it. Now i have a piercing bump and I was getting soooo anxious about it. Thanks for this video I'll try to calm down and continue with the saline solution after care
I got my tongue pierced nearly a month ago now and I have a bump and the front of it I’ve cleaned it and I’m just going to keep doing that with non alcohol mouthwash and sea salt twice a day but with the mouth wash every time after I eat
try salt water soaks with Neosporin in the mixture and then a regular soak make sure to swish the water around to clean the Neosporin off and then a saline spray to clean it and make sure it’s dried off completely with a q tip. thats what i’m doing and it’s really good for my bump although it’s not a keloid it looks alottt better
How long do you find it takes for these things to help? My piercer told me use Vitamin E Oil. I have a 5 month old conch and 4 month old helix, and they both have small bumps. They don't seem to be getting bigger, but also not getting smaller either. 😫
My peircer told me not to clean my peircing and my bridge I started to clean after it was crazy irritated and now it looks fully healed (it’s not but it looks and feels like it) but my septum (I didn’t clean it) and now I have a peircing bump
I've got double helix piercings (1 on each ear). They're ~3 years old & still not fully healed! They're what I'd call 'nearly healed', but because I believe I've got some not-to-be-trifled-with scarring, & the fact that they get irritated with some regularity, I'd consider these still healing. About 6 months in they developed a bump on the front of each piercing around the holes. My guess is they're keloids cause they're very firm and once formed, have NEVER disappeared. They've gone up or down in size throughout the 2.5 years I've had them, but never gone away completely. Thankfully, when my ears are happy these bumps are flesh colored & small. Most people don't notice them unless looking right at them from a close distance. With these bumps on the front, I ALSO go through various stages of having swelling around the holes on the backs of my ears. This to me seems like irritation. They typically are fine / produce no liquid or a tiny amount of clear fluid after sleeping, and aren't too sore. This is also why I feel like they aren't fully healed. A healed ear would produce really almost no fluid ever. Just the occasional skin build-up you get if you don't clean off your jewelry for a week or 2. But... Every now and then my helixes get irritation that leads to infection. When they're actually infected, they produce fluid that dries yellowish and the build-up of it only takes a day. Sometimes if it's a more serious infection I'll have a small amount of white puss come from the holes. I super baby them for a week & they go back to their normal ever-so-mildly sore but fine state. I've gone through various jewelry styles & sizes to try to help my ears avoid irritation. And boy has this been exasperating. I always use surgical stainless steel only, though. Back when I 1st developed what is likely keloids, I revisited the piercing shop & had them take a look as it had been 10 or so months since the piercings. The piercer I saw advised she thought it was irritation, but she didn't look too hard (and seemed afraid to even say keloid), and just swapped out the posts for shorter ones to try to reduce them catching on my hair. This worked for about 3 weeks. Then my hair went back to being caught on the posts whenever it was not in a bun. Mind you, I like dainty jewelry and I've had small studs in from the start. Since using a small flat-back stud wasn't working, I tried hoops. Hoops seemed to be the fix! For about a month my ears were the happiest they had been since I developed keloids. They were not sore at all, the irritation swelling went away, the keloids shrunk some, I felt great. Then for whatever reason, the irritation & slight soreness returned. No dice. I think the hoops moving around when I'd touch my hair or sleep is what caused the irritation. So, next, I tried finding studs with an even smaller flat-back. This was and is SO hard! Nobody seems to sell studs with tiny backs-- the backs are typically 3 to 6mm. I found a single pair with 2.5mm backs and tried those. This did not work either -- my hair would still wrap around the post between the tiny back and my ear. I tried studs made for the nose with just a super tiny bulb at the end-- also did not work. So, I flipped the studs with the 2.5mm back around, and now wear them backwards. Their top is a tiny 2mm jewel. They catch my hair the least out of any option tried except for the hoops, which sadly just moved too much (even when I tried a small diameter hoop so it hugged the ear closely). I have been unable to find any studs (push-pin or screw / threaded) with a 2mm flat-back to be able to wear them facing forward. If you know of anywhere I can purchase tiny studs for my helixes with 2mm flat-backs, especially ones with push-tops (way easier for me than screw-in tops), PLEASE let me know where! Haha. If anyone has any other advice for me, LMK. I clean once to twice a day with H2Ocean saline spray-- always have. To clear the occasional infection I do that and add a piercing oil with tea tree, but that's it! At first I tried the gentle antimicrobial soap but found cleaning like that moved the posts too much and caused irritation. So I stick with saline spray.
feel like i’m in the same boat as you.. I got mine two years ago but they get irritated often so I feel like they aren’t completely healed. I’ve always thought switching to a hoop might help since I have long hair. I’m gonna try the sea salt water and hopefully if that works switch to hoops after
Have you tried titanium? What you described sounds like what happens to me when I wear certain metals including surgical steel since it can contain some nickel.
Thank you so much I got this piercing in December and I didn't think about going on the internet to see why I got a lump on my piercing and I finally did( so glad) tried that salt method and it's working for me after the first time I did ( Sunday or a Monday) I realized that my lump was almost completely gone and I did it a second time today ( Thursday ) and I can't wait to see the results thank you so much
Thank you so much I have been using about a cup of salt to clean my tragus thinking that more salt would help, so im going to try with about 1/4 of a teaspoon and see what that does for me 😊
I got my first nose piercing done at a mall with a piercing gun, (i didnt know where else to go and was desperate, i know its wrong to do it with a piercing gun now as well) and the lady told me it was ok to change it after 3 days and that seemed off, but i had my piercing for about 2 months and i recently changed it to a hoop piercing and i havent been cleaning and i have a bump inside my nose and it hurts
I fell of cleaning mine really well. I would use saline and a Q tip but then I'd simply forget. I would remember to rinse it well in the shower, I do have a piercing bump on my left ear lobe now. I'm stretching my ears , and I'm not sure if itll affect it or not . I'm going to talk to my local pro piercer
I developed a keloid straight after getting my nose pierced - I started applying tea tree oil directly and it was just getting red and sometimes bigger and I was so confused yet I noticed when I forgot to do my tea tree routine the redness would reduce hence how i ended up here! Going to try the diluted tea tree solution and fingers crossed!!
I got my snug pierced about 2 months ago. About a month ago it got a bump on the inside and occasionally will have a smaller one on the outside. Ive tried everything. Just won't go away. Trying to be patient. The one on the outside comes and goes. But the one on the inside is super stubborn. Sometimes it looks like it might be getting smaller and then bam looks bigger again. I know I do sleep on it by accident sometimes. So that could definitely be part of the problem.
I was definitely panicking. Watched about 10 videos and stumbled across this one and feel soooo much more informed and better. THANKYOU
Did u die

I'm lowkey panicking right now lmaooo

Needed this reminder that my piercing is still healing
I’ve had my industrial for like 2 years now and it’s the most bipolar piercing I have. Some days it’s healed and other days it’s swollen and has bumps. My friends and I joke around that it’s alive and that “she’s her own woman with her own thoughts” and have gone as far as to name it “Barb the bar.”
I just got an industrial about a few months ago
My industrial did the same closer to the 3 year mark. It’s 6 years old now and it still does it sometimes. My piercer told me that is pretty common and that industrials usually have a short life span.
i kinda want to change out my industrial to two pieces of jewelry and idk when i should do that. it feels like itll never be at that state where its healed up and ready to change 😭
Dude that is awesome 🤩
I love it ❤
Not the struggle but the fact that they named it 😅
How do you get rid of it?
A note about tea tree oil , it can be toxic to pets so if you use it just make sure you wash you hands well after you apply and don’t use it on an area you pet might lick or can otherwise be exposed to.
Thank you
DONT USE TEA TREE OIL!!!!
@@jules3494 why not ??
@@angeldelossantos193 it’s highly irritating
@@jules3494 okay thanks I’ll stick with saline solution and anti bacterial soap 👍🏼
I agree with everything you said, Gretchen. I got a bump on my daith piercing three days ago. I had it pierced in the beginning of February and it was healing fine. I think I must have put a lot of pressure on it in my sleep 🧐
Anyway, I’ve used the sea salt solution on it every day, twice per day, and it’s almost gone.
Don’t panic guys, it will be fine as long as you take care of it responsibly.
How did you soak it in the sea salt solution? I want to try it but I just don’t know how to go about it lol
@@joyh5368 did you remove your piercing while doing this?
Same with aspirin as you said
how do i get rid of this irritation bump on my nose hoop? would a stud help to heal it or is there a way for me to heal it and keep the hoop in
@erin maybe you have a bump because of the hoop. change it to a stud and see what happened
i had one on my nose and used tea tree oil and the bump hasn’t came back 🤷🏽♀️ everyone is different
This is for people who have already tried this! (I thought it was pretty obvious)
my toxic trait is I know all of this already but I still panic about the bumps lol
same.
Same 🥲
my toxic trait is knowing that it’s the fact that i am wearing a hoop which is causing it but i’m so attached to it because i’m getting so many compliments and i don’t want to put a stud back
SAMEEEE
I was up all night thinking it was a keoloid. Tho it has been just shy of a month and half since my piercing. I even texted my piercer at 5 in the morning
Even tho I know I shouldn't panic so hard
Wanna share my tipps:
If you feel like it’s really infected try using tyrosur.
Oh my god THANK YOU
This is wayyy more informative than most videos I've seen!

@@elizabethmurphy5688 Haha, it really wasn’t that bad :D I had one for ages, and decided to add two more last November :D
How to do the asprin method
How did the vitamin e oil work for you
Update?
When i changed it before the three months and now i have a keloid 👍🏼😍
have u figured out how to get rid of it/did any of these methods work bc i’m fr getting scared 😭🙏
You shouldn’t have changed it 💀
My piercer told me mine was fine to change it at the 2 month mark so I did and a few weeks after I got this huge keloid/bump! I got it to go away but I think I was being to harsh on the aftercare and it came back but smaller this time
@@visualsofisa hey how did you get it to go away
Thank you!
Did it work?
Salicylic acid doesn’t really burn skin. It’s a chemical exfoliant. It’s in a lot of acne washes. It is drying for some though.
i found out that i had a pustule instead of a keloid. after your video my helix cartilage piercing has been getting better. i was using Himalayan salt for my ear and it seemed fine but it kept coming back. now i know to use all natural sea salt.
great advice, I have a small pustule on my 25 year old helix that got tapered, I just wash it , don't touch it, and spray it with salt water, don't touch it guys, just leave it alone
if youre really impatient, taking a piercing out will immediately resolve the bump regardless of what people say about trapping infection, it will not.
Please has it gone away now?
@@adeoyekehinde248 yes it took a very long time. I had the original one in that I was pierced with for about a year. One morning it ripped out and I lost it. I'm happy it didn't come back I was for f to take it out
@@10downTrent where you still doing your aftercare routine for that one year?

Has it healed ?
Currently I’m doing sea salt and distilled water soaks and sea salt paste for my nose piercing
Getting mine pierced in August & heard of the sea salt pastes. How have they been working for you?
Tina Almeida i hope i don’t have to take mine out because i’m having the exact same problem with the raging bumps 😭
I have one at the current moment and I literally took my jeweler out right when you said not to ;-;

Omg I’ve been using too much sea salt too... never knew! I figured the more salt the better for my daith! Guess not 😭 now I have a lil bump forming

I know a few people who have had the same issue so you’re definitely not alone!

you got them in September so maybe try one day when they look kinda okay get some longer earrings than the ones u have and that are made of other metal, and yes ur right lobe piercings are the easiest thing ever.

How is the healing process
I have had my piercing for about a year now. I saw a bump about six months ago. I will admit that I was lazy with after care, as my lobes didn’t need it. The cartilage (tragus) is a different animal. I may also have slept on it. I have the black saline solution, and am using it more regularly. I'll look into those other items. Thank you.
Me too. I am too lazy with the after care.

Been struggling with my lip piercings ever since I got them back in November and even considered taking them out. I think at one point I had been cleaning them too much and it caused irritation, but I was so afraid of having another bad experience like when I had my ears pierced forever ago. There's this swelling that happens on and off, which I've figured is just linked to irritants. I'm glad I did some research and found this video, thank you for making this.

Yeah face masks harbor a lot of bacteria
That explains why I got a bump on my piercing, I’ve never had a problem until now and I know I’ve been wearing dirty masks, gross I know
Because of you, I found out that I'm allergic to Sea Salt. Thank you so much for your videos
I've found that 1/8 of a teaspoon per cup of distilled water is a better option for most people.
you’re allergic to the ocean?? prolly used too much salt :/
@@BodyPiercingTattooing thanks
Question, what if the bump popped and now it looks like it exploded inside out? 😳
sooo turns out I've been using iodized salt instead of non-iodized in a salt soak for a bump on my nose, have i messed up? its slowly getting smaller
My nose isn't sore or crusting anymore so that's good at least.
my piercer told me to clean it for only 2 weeks 🥲
i keep accedently waking up and rubbing my face and rubbing it out of my face. then i’ll accedently dry my face too roughly and the same thing happens.
Sameee
you make me feel safe
I just found this video yesterday and i am trying the sea salt paste and cleaning with sea salt water. Day 2 of the paste and the bump on my nose is like melting off. I was about to take it out when i came on your video so thank you❤
My cartilage finally healed and it’s been 14 months
Any advice? Maybe I could’ve tried these methods... ugh
How did you get rid of the bump? Did taking it out solve it?
it’s to hard to find non iodized salt in canada i had to order from amazon and it won’t come till nov 8 while my infection gets bigger 😭
I use sinus rince its literally the same thing!
Dang that so weird
I needed this so badly ✨😭
I have a keloid on my belly piercing and can't rid of it 😭even thinking of removing it because it's been months now
try salt water soaks with Neosporin in the mixture and then a regular soak make sure to swish the water around to clean the Neosporin off and then a saline spray to clean it and make sure it’s dried off completely with a q tip. thats what i’m doing and it’s really good for my bump although it’s not a keloid it looks alottt better
hmm this video popped up literally as soon as I noticed a small bump on the back of my helix piercing. TH-cam knows
GIRL SAMEEE
Your hair color looks really nice!!!!
Thank you so much I got this piercing in December and I didn't think about going on the internet to see why I got a lump on my piercing and I finally did( so glad) tried that salt method and it's working for me after the first time I did ( Sunday or a Monday) I realized that my lump was almost completely gone and I did it a second time today ( Thursday ) and I can't wait to see the results thank you so much
I got bumps too . I'm using saline water biy I do not see results yet. I started 4 day ago
THIS IS SO HELPFUL
Thank you so much I have been using about a cup of salt to clean my tragus thinking that more salt would help, so im going to try with about 1/4 of a teaspoon and see what that does for me 😊
My bump is gone this month it was so gross I used salt and warm water to get rid of it 🖤🖤🖤
I got my first nose piercing done at a mall with a piercing gun, (i didnt know where else to go and was desperate, i know its wrong to do it with a piercing gun now as well) and the lady told me it was ok to change it after 3 days and that seemed off, but i had my piercing for about 2 months and i recently changed it to a hoop piercing and i havent been cleaning and i have a bump inside my nose and it hurts
Does all those products works for belly button piercing too?
I fell of cleaning mine really well. I would use saline and a Q tip but then I'd simply forget. I would remember to rinse it well in the shower, I do have a piercing bump on my left ear lobe now. I'm stretching my ears , and I'm not sure if itll affect it or not . I'm going to talk to my local pro piercer
My nose piercing is foine but I switched to a hoop after 5 ish months and now there's a god forsaken bump
I'm so happy I watched this . Cuz I have a lip piercing bump I was about to take it out until I watched this video but I still use sea salt and water
I have a lobe piercing that has suddenly decided that its not healed (after years) and has an inner bump and veryyy sore, I hope this helps me xc
