Epic blast from the past. My dad had a 1988 250r. My favorite was definitely the orange one.
It’s crazy my grandpa passed down his 88’ 250R to me and I’m surprised how sought after these machines are, thing rips , so much fun

I bought a 1988 Honda 250R Fourtrax new back in the day. Even took it to Silver Lake periodically. There were so many good riding places in the upper lower peninsula! I'd love to have my 250R back!
The 250R still has to be one of the most impressive quads ever produced. Especially for being only a 250cc. Plus they look awesome. I've never seen one that wasn't awesome looking.

Yeah silver lake sand dunes is about 3000 acres and only about 500 acres of it is available to ORV use. I would love to see them give us more (pedestrians don't really need that much!) but that will never happen. But like you said it's better than nothing. The sand and even the water holes is good clean fun. Just brushes off when it's dry not like mud.

Great video. This year was the first Raptor Rally I’ve missed at Silver Lake since 2008, we’ve had some awesome rallies out there over the years.
Kyle Langford I don’t think I’ll miss one from here on out. I would love to help make next years more organized and to help cover the event 🤟
Pete Hager, it used to be a lot bigger and more organized event. I think 2017 was the last big one...over 100 people, sponsors and parts giveaways and a big cookout on the dunes. It was fun, but a ton of work...so I decided to tone it down a bit. Met a lot of great people out there.
I sold my Raptor over the winter, but watching these videos is giving me the bug to get another. I may pick one up this winter and start wrenching again. Maybe I’ll see you out there for the next one.
The photos I saw must have been from 2017. There was some great photos of a ton of raptors lined up on the dunes. I'm glad my videos are giving you the bug to ride again 😆

I was definitely a little overwhelmed. It’s controlled chaos more or less. My main focus was to keep the tires under me and I didn’t really have any close calls. It can ugly quick if your not paying attention
@@PeteHager Holiday weekends are too crowded for me. I've seen some bad accidents up there. I always recommend that first-timers get there on a Wednesday to cruise around before the weekend crowd shows up, that way you can get an idea of the layout, where whoops, drop offs etc are. After that, head on a swivel.

I have had a raptor 700 and a Honda trx450r miss them so much haven't ridden in 4yrs I'm from Fargo ND and it has been a dream of mine to ride in the sand dunes

Thanks for watching my videos! I would love to live only an hour away. I would go to Silver all the time just to watch all the action, Plus theres tons of trails just north of there!
@@PeteHager We hope to retire near Baldwin and there are hundreds of miles of trails running through there. The cool part is it is just an hour to the dunes. Best of both worlds. I am stuck in Maryland (DC area) until I retire but we are planning ahead and ATV's will play a big part in retirement.

Totally agree. I have a 89r I got in 91 and I bought a raptor 700r se in 16. Night and day difference between the two. Raptor is easy to ride and smooth. The R is just a animal.

The 250r trikes are crazy fast! They're super capable when built, I'd be too scared to pilot one 😅

You'll be fine. I had an LTZ400 and it was fine, as well as a Yamaha Warrior. I blew out a paddle tire and had to go back to my XC tires on the 400 and it was still fine. Get on the sand and enjoy it.
The 250 4 stroke Quad doesn't pick up enough torque
Ever venture to Oklahoma? First weekend of October we do a 250r ride as well. Have people come down from Wisconsin, had over 50 in our group pic but many more in the camping that didn’t make it out!
