Great vid...Explained the setup very clearly. The spring is to withstand the static and dynamic loading from the vehicle hence determining the travel range of the suspension. Imagine the vehicle is sitting there not moving, the only parts holding up the car weight is the springs, not the oil. The oil doesn't do anything if the vehicle is motionless. The shock absorbers determine the rebound rate (how fast/slow) of the spring returns after the compression. The heavier oil will still allows the suspension to articulate the full length of the suspension but in slower speed. It depends on how heavy your vehicle is, then setup your spring stiffness. And depending on how your normal driving (suspension travel) speed is, then setup the oil weight. i. e. Trail run speed usually much faster than rock crawling, the speed of suspension traveling up and down is much faster(in milliseconds). Therefore, lighter weight oil will give better and realistic looks in action. Rock crawler in many cases that the loading of the entire vehicle usually acts upon only one or two wheels when it is tilted at extreme angles in longer periods of time (in seconds or longer) . So I guess that's why traxxax put in 30W oil originally. My 2 cents
Hey mate, thanks for excellent video. What do recommend to do with the rear suspension if it's unbalanced left and right. I have a trx4 defender and it sits low on the spare tyre side (right) I have adjusted the preload to balance it out... is this negatively impacting the functionality of the shock/ suspension system. Cheers
I put 10wt oil in my TRX4 years ago, so much better. I have no idea why Traxxas and others sell their trucks with such thick oil. They look rubbish in the adverts too - all stiff and toy like - not good marketing! I also put a pretty flexible anti roll bar on the rear wheels to stop the awful body roll you get. I still get full flex, but not the roll or wobble that the TRX4 gets so badly. It was an old Tamiya M01 anti roll bar. Works perfectly.
Great info and very well explained. Not to often get all the basic answers needed in one video. This is very helpful 👍
Exactly how I set up my TRX4 Blazer beginning of the yr and it made a big difference crawling.
Well done Boris
thanks bud

crawlers can have a bit of torque twist
subscribed!Like the way you explaine everything ,going to check out your other videos ive missed👍👍
I am in the process of buying my first kit - trx4 Sport, Once I get those Pro-line tires I have no more excuses and will bite the bullet🎁😃
Thanks bud, you are in the final draw to Win the tyres
@@borisworx9199 Unbelievable!🤞 Thank you
Nice and clear tutorial, thank you. I'm going to try Desert Lizard internal shocks next. I'll let you know how I get on. 👍
very exiting
@@borisworx9199 Oh, and yes, I would like to win the tyres! I've just got a new DF 4S JYM crawler and they would fit perfectly.
Thank you
Do you have a link for the oil ?
So you are filling your trx4 shocks to the top with no air? So linear not emulsion progressive (air oil mixed)?

Thanks for the info, will have to give it a go and experiment a little, pity I haven't got any different tyres I could try as well 😉
try the 10 weight it makes a big difference
Great video! Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Have you used the same oil for front and rear shocks?
I would love to have those tires for my trx4 sport build
Thanks bud, I have added your name to the final draw
Those tires would do great on my phoenix build
nice truck, I have put your name down for the final draw
What if your trx4 was almost 5kg. Would you still go whith the 10 wheight oil?..
ufff, no try between 30 to 60 weight
@@borisworx9199Thanks for the input
You have Great video! Just subscribed!
Thanks for the sub! great to have you on the team
I would like to try some different tires form the stock trx4 sport ones. So maybe these Pro-Lines will be a good option? 😉
very good I have pit your name down for the final draw
@@borisworx9199 that's nice. Thank you!
Cool!! Setting up my new (First Defender TRX4) rig and this was exactly what I was looking for.
Many thanks bro :)
Use heavier weight oil
Great vid. ❤
Thank you! 😁
Super cool video
Thanks my friend
Thx, nice overview and great skills 👍 But in the end isn't it the same if I take thicker oil and less spring compression? Cheers 😉
Hi, the thicker the oil the slower the shock moves
I need the tires for my old trx4 stock tires
Right on your in the final draw
Good VDO awesome
I really need tires because mine are filled with water and just horrible
you are in the next draw end of September
👍🏾
Thanks bud
I would love the tires for my scx10 because mine are very worn out and old.
I run 60 weight and mine is perfect if you are bashing then use a thinner weight if you use a thinner weight it will unload to fast
No oil ,cut the springs to were screwd up it lifts and whin you screw down it lowers all the way.....
I need new tires please 🙏 wish I could afford do to this pandemic
Is it too let to get some free tyres 😂😂
A whole video for thinner oil? Oh boy
