Traxxas TRX4 RC Crawler Treal Shock Tower Upgrade [Install, Test, Review]

  • This really made a difference to our Traxxas TRX4!
Installed the Treal front and rear shock towers, plus some shock keys to really give some adjustment to the upper shock mounting. So many options!
By laying the shock inward both front and rear, the truck ride height reduced by around 1/4-1/2 inch, plus kept or increased our articulation / flex! A worthwhile upgrade for sure!
How does it crawl with this change? Check out the running footage at the end to see!

And that's how you tune your rig!

    • @RoadsideRC

It is the same as the front shock being angled back.
The more angle (in the same direction as the control arms) increases flex and reduces ride height.
If this effect is too exaggerated, it will reduce side-hill stability.

My goal for doing this, is to lower the truck for better CoG, while still maintaining the same amount of flex, or perhaps even gaining some.
You will notice I angled both the front and rear shocks inward more.
Then, I tried various angles to change the ride height.
When the key was angled up, I had basically lost all suspension travel, so moved them more downwards to increase the ride height.

It would. You may just need to trim the fenders.

A lot of people don't realize this but if you turn the shock key's upside down you can actually make them into a adjustable body mounts so if you wanted to fit a short wheelbase or a long wheelbase JK body to a d90 or d110 chassis it will actually work with that as long as you have the right size threaded rods

Idk man... This doesn't look too strong to me... You loose a shear point for the shock making it's connection much weaker as well as adding so much leverage by sticking it so far out from the shock tower that a fall or hard bump could bend it... Unless that screw holding the shock with it's now single shear point were to actually shear off... Idk. Maybe for you and the driving you do this works great. Hopefully it does. I just don't see it being stronger in any way...

      Thanks for the feedback!
Here is the good news: this was installed over 1-year ago...heck, maybe even longer.
MANY miles of crawling and crashing later...no issues at all!

@@RoadsideRC yeah. I noticed how old the video actually was after I commented. I was gonna edit it and ask how it's held up but then I just figured you'd probably never respond anyways since it is such an old video. Lol. But it is awesome that it's held up for ya. It is a very interesting mod. That's for sure. Haha.
