I typically do just dinner for the small ones, but every decade I like to do something big. For my 30th I went to Paris. Enjoy each day. My birthday was this week, Nov. 15th. I always spend it with family rather than friends, because it feels more intimate and "right" for me to have a quiet event with those that have always been with me. My mom either cooks me my requested dinner, so we go out to eat anywhere I want. Afterwards, we go to DQ and get a small ice cream cake to share after singing happy birthday. It is nothing big compared to some others, but it's cozy and always stays with me in my memories. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

I feel like it’s the age where big decisions are made and it scares the hell out of me as I’m also an over thinker and pretty stressed person 😂 so I’m kinda stressed of getting into a routine but also kinda scared of new things and change it’s really annoying lol, it’s comforting that most of us are going through the same, I feel like our generation is really stressed of things we cannot control and social media pretty much increase our anxiety as we are looking directly through other people achievements and we weirdly feel the need to compare smh. I usually like to celebrate my birthday by spending the morning quietly and introspectively, with coffee, either a book or my journal, and making myself a balanced and nutritious breakfast that tastes good but also looks good. I like to REALLY spoil myself in the morning on my birthday. Then I will wear whatever my favorite clothes are that day, maybe go for a walk or even a hike, make myself something for lunch, have a few phone calls with friends and family, make myself a birthday cake, and play The Sims 4 or watch one of my favorite movies or shows and get take out for dinner (it is often tacos or chicken pad Thai or crab Rangoon or sushi). Often I will spend time with my parents and brother on a day around my birthday, but I actually really prefer to spend my actual birthday alone and engage in restorative self-care practices because I am quite introverted and get easily overwhelmed by too much sensory stuff or too much social interaction.
I love doing self care things for my birthday like get my hair washed and styled, mani-pedi, get a massage, facial, acupuncture etc., As a busy mom I don't get to do these things as often as id like so it's always nice when I do.

And also, I can understand how you feel because I'm still in uni and I'm also a med student so my graduation is within 4 years LOL. But covid19 hid hard in my country India 🇮🇳 and so many near and dear ones lost on the way. I Couldn't celebrate my 23 and 24 birthdays as I was in quarantine alone in city far away from parents .pretty much having existential crises and due to finance also could afford to go home but now I realised that it's a blessing to be alive and should be celebrated. This upcoming birthday I want to celebrate by at least cutting cakes and dinner with my friends and families who have been there for me and push me forward to become a better version of me. For my birthday (wich was just 4 days ago btw) , i usually like to be very lowkey and spend my evening with my best friend and family. We tal we laugh and have cake. It doesnt sound too special, but it's incredibly conforting to me that i have been granted yet a new day in a new year of my life, that too in the presence of people i love and love me back. That evening, the celebration is not over the top, and the decoration is barely there, but somehow cake tastes sweeter, jokes sound funnier, and most important of all, my heart feels fuller ❤ happy birthday

For my birthday (wich was just 4 days ago btw) , i usually like to be very lowkey and spend my evening with my best friend and family. We tal we laugh and have cake. It doesnt sound too special, but it's incredibly conforting to me that i have been granted yet a new day in a new year of my life, that too in the presence of people i love and love me back. That evening, the celebration is not over the top, and the decoration is barely there, but somehow cake tastes sweeter, jokes sound funnier, and most important of all, my heart feels fuller ❤ happy birthday

Also, totally relate to wanting to know where you’re headed next; I’ve always said that I’m a destination person, not really here for the journey along the way. Something that you reminded me of was the Black Mirror episode where people would find out their dating destiny while on a first date (how long the relationship would last, what type, etc.) and how that was no more psychologically secure than not knowing.

i love to spend time with my friends + family, but also, i take a day to reflect on myself. i also constantly am updating my future plans, and am basically addicted to journaling at this point, so i spend time doing that. i like taking trips rather than getting gifts, and love being with people i love.

I usually ends my birthday by writing down the reflections I've got for that year and write myself a future letter for myself. It's simple but it really makes my heart happy. My birthdays are a little different since my brother died. He was three years older than me, but his birthday is the day after mine. It used to be something that was kinda celebrated together, but now it kinda puts me in a funk. I need to re-learn to celebrate my birthday.
My 59th birthday is in 2 weeks. I will have lunch and go shopping with my mom, then dinner out with my husband, son and daughter-in-law. During the week I will get together with girlfriends. The greatest joys in life are family and friends.
