There's moments here and there throughout the album where there are multiple, competing rhythms happening at once, but it never sounds haphazard. It's a well choreographed fight made out of noise. Nothing is supposed to work this well, but here we are.
That intro was tasty as hell.
That taste is just the appetizer, the full course meal will leave you full and satisfied, so save room for desert.
I've been addicted to Where Owls Know My Name for well over a year now. I am finally opening my mind to this album in preparation for The Work!
@TeCrayShawn Johnson just like with any new music, it's taken time to warm up on me. I love all 3 singles, The Tower and Episode.
Personally, I found this and Where Owls way better than The Work... For me, The Work sounds too commercial and much softer, unfortunately :/

One of the best albums I've ever heard. And in some parts also one of the loudest kick drum mixes I've ever heard 😂

good voice. nice tone on the guitars. good songs. hmmmm. i'd say that makes these guys an awesome band! tight as hell and something i can put on and fall asleep to and also go work out to.
I've been fixated on Where Owls Know My Name, afraid to listen to this album fearing if this album doesn't live up to the former mentioned

it's good but you can tell they were finding their footing with the new experimental sound here, and it was truly realized on owls. i am so stoked for whatever they do next.
They're just one of those bands where everything they touch is gold, at least in my humble opinion
@TeCrayShawn Johnson its not that good sadly the two singles suck. Compared to this and Owls. i heard a third song that sounds like old Rivers like Suntold but very slim hope they are focusing on simpler melodies and not at technical solos or outros its honestly amazes me the step back they took when they were playing the "Pink Floyd of Metal".
it happened to me that I knew them by Owls, and took a while to listen this and the first album... I found them more difficult to listen than Owls, but now I think they are, at least. as good as it... Ears just need time to appreciate it xD
Still, I find the last album, Works, by far not as good as the previous 3, unfortunately.
This album was like much needed
Personally got back into tech-death beause of this one
This entire albums feels like I’m laying on my back in the driest, dustiest desert imagineable, being cooked alive by the scorching sun coming down on me. To say this album feels like “summer” in their seasons collection, is an understatement. The guitar tones and thickness of the riffs embodies dry scorching summer heat in my mind.

Yeah I've returned back to this and Owls. Not an edgy elite metalist, but this is quite soothing unlike the nu prog metal stuff they are recently putting out.

Why is it premiering when its been out forever
It is sort of odd but at the same time these lads deserve more exposure. Monarchy and Owls are both masterpieces.

Their best album and what got me into the band. Where Owls Know My Name was decent but not so into their new direction.
I see tons of praise for Owls and though it had some shining moments it just felt too watered down and predictable at times with less complex structures/riffs and the brutal heaviness just didn't match the level set with Monarchy.
I’m with you, man. I first listened to Owls based on the hype. Loved it, put it on my eBay list immediately, etc. I’m just hearing this album for the first time now, and I think I like it better!

The band said their 4th album was going to be the final chapter to the “seasons”. seed of Consciousness is spring, monarchy is summer & owls is fall. was looking forward to the winter concept from these guys but holy crap they recorded the most boring and non-Rivers of Nihil album possible. they toned everything down and meh
