I agree with you. But last year a album came out wich is as good as this one and that album is The Circle by the Band Heretoir. Listen to the tracks The Circle and Lanikea Dances to understand what i mean. Pure epicness

yea even if your broke just don't eat lunch for 2 days and use that money to pay the 12 bucks. Have the album forever plus make it so they can continue to bless us
I'm listening to this in the background, not fully paying attention, I also read some comments, and I came to this general meta-conclusion: whatever the genre, you cannot stay fresh unless you go a little prog. Prog became a synonym for having balls, thinking outside the box, prog transcends genres and reflects the artist's state of mind. Because everything standard has already been done to death, everybody needs to find a special something that makes them unique, something identity defining. In the days of old, only a few had the charisma and the spine to do it, but nowadays even record labels are on board, and it's great times!
Mixing in different influences or genres is also an option - if you find your own sound or style, sounding like a mash up of your favourite bands is, IMO, OK for a tribute band but at some point wouldn't you like to try something original ?
The one problem I have with this band is the vocals and not the cleans. I wish this band had some death growls or deeper vocals. This guy's vocals are so mediocre. I still love this album, but that is the one thing I wish I could change.
@@thefilmeffect6089 Yeah i think all vocals throughout have a metalcore flavor and it really holds the album back to me, which sucks cause i love the music
I first listened to this album in 2020 and quickly fell in love. I listened to the entire album all in one go, there wasn't a single song I didn't like. Since then I've listened to this album hundreds of times; when I'm having a tough day, when I'm sad, when something stressful happens, when I'm angry...it's been a constant comfort to me throughout the years and I now consider Rivers of Nihil my favourite band. Thank you so much for giving me solace and peace of mind in some of the worst most stressful times in my life. I'm endlessly grateful.
at this point i might as well delete every other song that i have in pc / phone. no words for this. been here since the release of ,,conscious seed'',praised ,,monarchy'',but this... the sax,the 80s synth, the soul, the double bass, bass porn, drowning in melancholy, the riffs, the production, the tones, the lyrics, the clean vocals... this isn't just quality tech death anymore, this is something else.
"The band - now rounded out by guitarist Jon Topore and drummer Jared Klein - has delivered an album which is often just as punishing as its predecessors while assimilating ingredients from musical genres as varied as electronica, jazz, alternative, folk, and the golden age of Shrapnel Records. The resulting music is indescribably progressive, a multifaceted soundscape that goes beyond the wildest dreams of even the group's most ardent admirers."
Honestly as much as I love death metal and the umbrella that it is with so many subs, this album brings me so much joy because other bands were really getting boring. There is only so many ways and songs before the constant chugging and vocals need something to set it apart from its brothers.
People ask me how can i stand listening to music like this? and albums like this remind me exactly why i do. Rivers of Nihil perfected every note, every lyric in order to make their fans relate to this album, and in my experience, they've done just that. It's easily among the greatest albums I've listened to.
Last time someone ask me how can i stand listening to music like this, Itook my phone to show him my music player. Then, I told him, "you see that triangle pointing on the right side? - Yeah? - Press it.
Never thought that death metal can make me cry, but here we are I don't like the majority of death metal, but this album is an outstanding masterpiece, this screaming vocals managed to surpass a language barrier and make me feel these raw emotions and feelings condensed in this vocal
Somehow this particular album clicks. I tried other albums of RoN and although not bad by any means, it doesn't give me the same feeling as this one. The balance between the proggy chilled out parts and the agressive deathmetal stuff is just spot on! The sax, the production, the songwriting.. It comes together so flawlessly. I keep returning to this album ever since it came out!
I didn't care as much for terrestria III: wither on my first listen, but then I played it on a big system with a lot of bass. It snuck up on me and when it hits it's so incredibly powerful
That particular song has almost all the depth of Linkin Park. Ne Obliviscaris draws circles over circles around every single note in that song, including the solo.
Many albums have made an impression on me metal and non-metal when I first heard them. They weren't the band's first album, but were my first to hear them : Beach Boy's Little Deuce Coupe, The Who's Who's Next, Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind, Slayer's Seasons in the Abyss, Nirvana's Nevermind, MCR's Welcome to the Black Parade, Eluveitie's Slania, Gojira's Magma, Mechina's Progenitor, Amon Amarth's Versus the World to name a few. This one is up there. I can't stop listening to it. The blending of sounds, musicianship and sub-genres is absolutely sick. I can't wait to see them in Columbus on April 18th! Stay Metal My Friends! \m/
As my first exposure to this band, the experience reminds me of the first time I heard Fallujah. Great songs, great musicianship, great production. Well done. Off to iTunes I go......
This album definitely reminds me of Behemoth's The Satanist. Not musically, but I remember the anticipation for that album. Both of these albums were highly anticipated and my expectations were pretty high. Upon release and listening to the full album, they both completely blew my expectations out of the water. The Satanist has been one of my favorite albums of recent years, and was the first death metal album I ever thought of to be truly perfect. This album 100% feels like it is going to be the same way. Both are very unique and well done, and will be hard to beat for years to come.
This is my first time listening to this band. I was planning on listening to about a minute or two just to check it out. I'm at 30 minutes now. I think I'll finish it. Very good. 👍
You could have all you wanted Sing You could build it all from nothing Sing to me You can live a life alone Sanctuary But you can never call this home Shit hit hard
I first listened to the title track because the album art intrigued me. As a result, my eyes were opened to the world of death, extreme, and black metal. Through recommendations, I've discovered so many new bands. Just goes to show how important album artwork can be.
I saw this Band in Portland OR when they opened for Thy Art and Dying Fetus. Got really really high off of a joint in the bathroom in the venue and this band came on right after. I remember not much of a long set which felt longer because of the high. All I can recall from this band was the sick guitar solos and then when the SAX solo came on it blew my mind. Listening to this album a month later and it is such a masterpiece
What it means to be a classic is that it slaps for eternity. Even if the original doesn't last that long. That's why the 57 Belair is a classic. Just like this album.
Rivers of Nihil is one of humankind's greatest contributions to art as a collective whole. This album is an absolutely sublime masterwork of auditory beauty, and is meant to be listened to from beginning to end, and is an unforgettable stereophonic experience that is both moving, and soothing, and, provided you *have* one, will, under the right conditions, touch your very soul.
June 2021 and this album is still an absolute jaw dropper. Amazing arrangements, blend of styles and production. This f#%&$kin knocks it out of the park every single listen.
DoctorKloebner oh it's a whole fanbase. It was a big thing in the 90s and early 2000s but it's still around. They have a really weird culture around it
This album was a concept album dealing with the season of fall and the process of aging. Everybody should start getting hyped for their next album, which will most likely be about winter and death.
It's finally here! Been a fan since 2013 when I first heard The Concious Seed Of Light, and I have to say this is easily my favorite album from Rivers of Nihil yet.
I've listened to this album a few times before, and it sort melted in the mix with other new wave prog death bands that have been doing well(black crown initiate, Ne Obliviscaris etc). It didn't blow my mind then, but I put on now and it's the best progressive death metal album ever now for some reason
Glad that Terrestria III is yet another unique track in the saga. Edit: Old Nothing and Hollow are right up there with Rain Eater and Perpetual Growth Machine.
Dude I think that Terrestria III is actually my favourite track on the record! For an interlude to be able to steal the show, thats gotta say something. Absolutel adore this record.
Rivers of Nihil is one of the greatest metal bands in HISTORY and you can't change my mind. All 4 of their first albums are practical masterpieces in my eyes.I drove 4 hours to see them mid-Pandemic cause their tickets were way cheap. ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT
Yesterday I saw this show - thats not show, thats message for all of us. Still cant stop thinking on yesterdays concert in Prague.... Probably one of the best concert what I had been. I am 41 years old.
Hey man, this is my first listen of this band. Do they have anything similar to "The Silent Life?" At the time of this comment I am listening to "A Home" and I really dig it. Gonna give this entire album a spin. Thanks!
My thoughts exactly, that, and "Colors" by Between The Buried and Me. I love Fallujah (not so much with Alex gone), but this album surpasses TFP in my opinion.
@@locust7777 Not in the slightest, I'd imagine. Many of the slower, jazzier, atmospheric rock sections have a pretty strong Floyd-esque sound. In the best way.
I clicked on this out of sheer curiosity, because I remembered reading the band name a few times before and the album title seemed interesting to me. Well ... let's just say that I was hooked the second The Silent Life began and have just finished the third time listening to the entire album. this thing is INSANE, an absolute MASTERPIECE. I'll probably listen to it again 5 more times today. It's just THAT GOOD.
This album and others prove metal isnt always about who can play the fastest or most down tuned. It's about the experince and the music itself. This is a masterpiece of music and art.
These guys have become my all time favorite band, this album is truly a masterpiece. I will be buying this album, shirt, and tab book. I'm literally going to learn every song on this album. Amazing, keep it up guys.
That polyrhythm laid down in Subtle Change... That's some of the most funky fresh, powerfully progressive metal my ears have ever had the pleasure of being graced by. Gripped me immediately, and built to a crushing intensity. Clearly you can call this metal, but I call it genre-defying art.
"I still remember a better time when the thoughts that we had connected between our open eyes. We say goodbye to a life that’s been mostly silent; erroneously led. Strive to complete myself , it seems my work is never truly done. I see your face, barely through the haze . You see a life, erroneously led." Damn you for immediately being so soul crushingly relatable.
i can't quite accurately describe just what this album means to me. i just keep restarting it, over and over and over and over... people will write their theses on this album in 100 years. i truly believe that.
Discovered you guys during your ongoing tour with Black Dahlia, and holy shit you're blowing my mind right now. The build from 23:10 - 25:00 is fucking unreal - that's some Jester Race level talent, and I really don't think I've heard anything like it. You have a new fan.
5:36 I love the intricacy and precision of this, sent chills down my spine with the notes. I've been waiting to find a new group that can expand an old genre and offer something new (the saxophone).
I love when an ALBUM feels like a piece of art in itself. It's not just songs thrown together. Rivers of Nihil albums always feel like a story being told over the course of the album. Each album has its own personality and i love it. People sometimes complain when "all the songs sound the same" on an album, but i cant disagree more. I love when the songs all blend together, you cant tell where one ends and the next begins. its just a beautiful journey all the way to the end. The artistry here really speaks to me. I wish i could show Rivers of Nihil how much they inspire me as a person, and as a creator. With all the love in the world, keep making amazing music, keep telling great stories, and keep inspiring young artists like myself. You guys absolutely rock
best music while dealing with stuff for university! You see this albumcover and know instantly: Okay, this has to be VERY VERY awesome music. And it didn't disappoint me
My son recommended this band to me recently and I love what I've heard so far. This album is fkn amazing! Random thought: I never could understand the fact that I don't appreciate Jazz music...smooth Jazz is tolerable, but I don't listen to it unless someone else is listening to it. I just don't like it, it's a matter of personal preference that is all, because I do recognize their talent as musicians. Now if you set those same principles in action within the Metal Genre I can not get enough and it's an eargasm to me. Not only do I appreciate the Jazz influences I LOVE them when I hear them. It confuses me at times how I can love the sonic representations so much and dislike their origins. Okay, random moment over...carry on and enjoy the album. :D
I don't manage to appreciate jazz because I know I don't have the capacity/competence to appreciate jazz. Some songs are easier on the ears (Flim and the BBs - Invention, Chuck Mangione - Give it All You Got, Spyro Gyra - Heliopolis), so I can revisit them. But pure jazz (maybe Coltrane, and the other ones) are still inaccessible to my understanding. I do know they are way ahead for me to grasp (yet). Been decades now. Maybe someday...
This just came up in my youtube recommended, and my jaw is now on the floor. This album is incredible. Every single band member is just killing it. The drums and guitarist especially caught my ear. Guitarist has a similar tone/style to Brandon from Black Dahlia Murder. Love it, and now I have a lot more research to do on these guys.
I cannot express strongly enough how much I love this band. They wreck the concept of "metal is negative" and "metal isn't hard to make" with such obliteration that im surprised the Bible didnt speak of it.
Ah a nice Tech-Death-Prog-Neo-Melo-Black-Djent-Doom-Jazz-Metal band.
I like it

I first listened to the title track because the album art intrigued me. As a result, my eyes were opened to the world of death, extreme, and black metal. Through recommendations, I've discovered so many new bands. Just goes to show how important album artwork can be.
I saw this Band in Portland OR when they opened for Thy Art and Dying Fetus. Got really really high off of a joint in the bathroom in the venue and this band came on right after. I remember not much of a long set which felt longer because of the high. All I can recall from this band was the sick guitar solos and then when the SAX solo came on it blew my mind. Listening to this album a month later and it is such a masterpiece
killer show man
polisi86
yeah the saxphone i thought maybe was a sample or something then its cool they got a guy that plays sax
saw them at summer slaughter fest
I feel bad for people that doesn´t understand or know this kind of music .
Random creature: "What's this guy's name ..."
Owl: "Gary."
Yo! Whattup, you called?
Actually it's Jake [:
The vocalist's name.
RoN
Still slaps.
Man, they flew under the radar for me up until recently. All their albums slap hard
Yup,archspire has been killing it too.
What it means to be a classic is that it slaps for eternity. Even if the original doesn't last that long. That's why the 57 Belair is a classic. Just like this album.
It’s only been 5 years, lol.
These guys deserve all the support. Amazing people.
Sometimes I hear an album that sets the bar (unfairly) high for other bands. Needless to say, that is this album.
I, I have no words. Beauty in organized chaos. This is the perfect metal album. I hope you've only just begun... Your work is never truly done.
HAHAHA good one
June 2021 and this album is still an absolute jaw dropper. Amazing arrangements, blend of styles and production. This f#%&$kin knocks it out of the park every single listen.
Hearing this whole album live was experience man... These dudes are gonna be death metal legends
hell yeah man, i imagine its like when i saw BTBAM do the Colors album live, love it when bands do that \m/
halfway through the first song -> ordered the album.
DoctorKloebner imagine if the rest of it was like juggalo rap or something lmao
I don't even know what that is and now I'm afraid googling it.
DoctorKloebner You should be it's pretty bad lol
@@jordandufault9558 ok so apparently it's just normal rap done by clowns? how is that a seperate genre? I don't get it LOL
DoctorKloebner oh it's a whole fanbase. It was a big thing in the 90s and early 2000s but it's still around. They have a really weird culture around it
Metal Blade has really hit the mark lately with their releases. This album is amazing.
*Rain Eater, PGM AND Ancestral, I
No love for mechanical trees though? Was up there with rain eater from the first album
I love this because it changes often. Doesn’t quite have boundaries. Doesn’t care to explore musically and it’s damn beautiful because of it
Also love how every song is really long too. Really makes this album and experience instead of just listening to a bunch of songs for a few minutes.
Rivers of Nihil is one of the greatest metal bands in HISTORY and you can't change my mind. All 4 of their first albums are practical masterpieces in my eyes.I drove 4 hours to see them mid-Pandemic cause their tickets were way cheap. ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT
Why I didnt heared about this before today ? This is *gigantic*
INSTANT BUY
Yesterday I saw this show - thats not show, thats message for all of us. Still cant stop thinking on yesterdays concert in Prague.... Probably one of the best concert what I had been. I am 41 years old.
Just going to preemptively hit like and then confirm it by listening
WOW...so i def don't regret preemptively liking it. Amazing
Hey man, this is my first listen of this band. Do they have anything similar to "The Silent Life?" At the time of this comment I am listening to "A Home" and I really dig it. Gonna give this entire album a spin.
Thanks!
Alex Sharp yea they have 2 previous albums that are great too but this album and the silent life are next level amazing
I did exactly the same thing lmao. Smart man
I did the same thing
It’s not often that I get hooked on a band and can enjoy the whole album. The same way I felt about “The Flesh Prevails” when first heard it.
My thoughts exactly, that, and "Colors" by Between The Buried and Me. I love Fallujah (not so much with Alex gone), but this album surpasses TFP in my opinion.
This entire album is a beautiful experience for the ears and for the soul. Truly an amazing piece of art.
Amazing! Album of the year for me too. Take Opeth,Pink Floyd,Dark Tranquility,Obscura,Blue Oyster Cult and Nevermore and you've got River Of Nihil.
Pink Floyd? Is that a funny?
Concur
@@locust7777 Not in the slightest, I'd imagine. Many of the slower, jazzier, atmospheric rock sections have a pretty strong Floyd-esque sound. In the best way.
Brilliant seems like too tame a descriptor for this album.
I love this album so much I almost showed it to my 71 year old neighbor that I smoke with
Ran into this band on accident... wow. Giving me goosebumps it's SO EPIC!!
These guys have become my all time favorite band, this album is truly a masterpiece. I will be buying this album, shirt, and tab book. I'm literally going to learn every song on this album. Amazing, keep it up guys.
I was thinking the same thing...lol.
That polyrhythm laid down in Subtle Change... That's some of the most funky fresh, powerfully progressive metal my ears have ever had the pleasure of being graced by. Gripped me immediately, and built to a crushing intensity. Clearly you can call this metal, but I call it genre-defying art.
For two months after this was released, I would come home and listen to this after work and contemplate my life. What a treat.
I knew an owl once.
One of the best albums from the last decade.
We need more bands like this in the game, it's always a pleasure to listen this jewel.
Rivers of Nihil..so glad to live in the same generation as you.
Love all the cool transitions and "surprises." It's like there's a new instrument or sound around every corner.
Track 6, Terrestria 3, my point is made once again haha. Totally unexpected track
"I still remember
a better time when the thoughts that we had connected between our open eyes. We say goodbye to a life that’s been mostly silent; erroneously led. Strive to complete myself
, it seems my work is never truly done. I see your face, barely through the haze
. You see a life, erroneously led."
Damn you for immediately being so soul crushingly relatable.
this album is so fucking beautiful
i can't even get over it
thank you dudes so much for this wonderful gift you've given us
i can't quite accurately describe just what this album means to me. i just keep restarting it, over and over and over and over...
people will write their theses on this album in 100 years. i truly believe that.
The second half of Subtle Change is some of the coolest shit i've heard in music in a long time
That bass
Who puts craperalus as their avatar??
@@locust7777 anyone who wants to do it, duh
that sax solo was totally unexpected, they went from total chaos to melody and then total chaos, thats frickin awesome.
Discovered you guys during your ongoing tour with Black Dahlia, and holy shit you're blowing my mind right now. The build from 23:10 - 25:00 is fucking unreal - that's some Jester Race level talent, and I really don't think I've heard anything like it. You have a new fan.
Never expected this track, simply amazing
Terrestria III: Wither (26:57)
5:36 I love the intricacy and precision of this, sent chills down my spine with the notes. I've been waiting to find a new group that can expand an old genre and offer something new (the saxophone).
There are few albums that I will play through, most are not from this decade. This is one hell of an album.
This and “welcome to wonderland “ by sea of treachery are like one of the most unique listening experiences in metal I know
I love when an ALBUM feels like a piece of art in itself. You guys absolutely rock
you"d probably enjoy The Deliverance of the Fall, the second Dekadent album. there"s a continuous music video for the entire album
best music while dealing with stuff for university! You see this albumcover and know instantly: Okay, this has to be VERY VERY awesome music. And it didn't disappoint me
I keep coming back to this album. Enough typing. Time to close eyes and listen.
Those fifth and sixth tracks were way cool. In fact the whole second side was just an awesomely dreamy blend of atmospheric metal and jazzy fusion.
Subtle change has so much variation and atmospheric textures, definitely one of their best songs
Youve got a cool son
I don't manage to appreciate jazz because I know I don't have the capacity/competence to appreciate jazz.
Some songs are easier on the ears (Flim and the BBs - Invention, Chuck Mangione - Give it All You Got, Spyro Gyra - Heliopolis), so I can revisit them.
But pure jazz (maybe Coltrane, and the other ones) are still inaccessible to my understanding. I do know they are way ahead for me to grasp (yet). Been decades now. Maybe someday...
Musicianship, arrangement, lyrics, array of instruments, the atmosphere created. . . A true masterpiece.
I am obsessed about this album! It gave me the "chills" that music used to gave me, but I lost it somewhere. Thank you Rivers of Nihil!
Definitely hit the top of my must buy albums list within 10 minutes of listening.
this drummer has surely surpassed all his heros . juuust incredible
This album cured my cancer.
Careful what you say without regard for others.
> If you can't handle words on a screen you deserve nothing but pain.
Said the guy who got triggered by words on a screen. Lol
cancer of the soul
@@thomashinds3308 well that was intense! overreach much
@@thomashinds3308 those words literally made you go crazy
Prog Metal is the only non cliche form of metal these day. Solid album 👌
Atmospheric Black.
prog can definitely have its cliches
d-jent d-d-d-jent
Clean section
lyrics about space
I can't stop coming back to this album, I just can't
Same bruh, same. I fucking still marvel at it.
I cannot express strongly enough how much I love this band. They wreck the concept of "metal is negative" and "metal isn't hard to make" with such obliteration that im surprised the Bible didnt speak of it.
