  • How to Unseize a 2 Stroke Outboard Engine
    If you're unlucky enough to get your 2-stroke outboard engine seized, perhaps these steps will get that motor churning over again as it did for me.

    • @AdventurePrimal
      @AdventurePrimal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh. Im not sure on that one. Mine was due to a head gasket issue letting water into the piston chamber. Once i changed that, then it was all good again. Over-heating may have caused the head to warp and other issues, which will need a different fix.

    Late reply. I let mine sit, and leave fuel in the chamber. That said, I like to get out every three weeks or so. Where not possible, i'll throw the muffs on and start it for 15 minutes or so then shut it down and leave it until it's time to use it again.

    How do you keep the outboard from spinning around when you are putting torque on the flywheel?

    • @AdventurePrimal
      @AdventurePrimal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I left the motor on the boat and let the boat stop it from turning further.

  • @mikee.1070
    @mikee.1070 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Isn't that nut pressing the flywheel down? In my outboard it actually was loose when I got it loose and i could take the nut off with not so much force. I'm not really sure how working on that nut can get the motor unseized?

    • @darrynbowden3290
      @darrynbowden3290 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike. The nut on my flywheel is tight. That allowed me to use the nut to gently move the piston to start the freeing up process. You need something to move that piston. I think you can still use your nut to do that job. You'll ned to check if your nut is meant to be loose but it doesn't sound right to me.

  • @bobwest9577
    @bobwest9577 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Yeah that's fine. but beware. you WILL need a new impeller after tthat, that's the water pump, but if it's new you'll be okay. P.S. I should explain. you never turn a flywheel backwards, the blades on the pump take shape on going one way, they will crack off going back the other way.

    • @AdventurePrimal
      @AdventurePrimal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Excellent. Thanks for that Bob. That's what i like to see here, good tips to help others out.

    • @michaeljentsch9320
      @michaeljentsch9320 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Bob.
      Absoluletly a 2 stroke enging can be turned counter clockwise. Especially in this circumstance. Just turning one way would put unnecessary force on the rings and potentially cause damage to them or the cylinder bore. There are other implications for some 4 stroke engines that mean they shouldn't but a 2 stroke is just fine.
      Impellers are made of nitrile rubber. You can install them any way you like, though the correct way to do it would be to have the fins/blades sweeping back from the direction of travel however they will correct themselves without issue once the drive shaft starts turning. The only issue that may arise with cracking/breaking off is when the impeller is old.
      It SHOULD have a new impeller each year or so regardless of usage as preventative maintenance and I agree that this one should probably be changed for that reason but it doesn't necessarily NEED to be replaced. Part of the reason for changing the impeller each year or so, or after a certain number of hours use is to inspect the rest of the pump for wear. The housing and wear plate which the impeller sits in and on can wear away if there has been sand or debris caught in the impeller housing or where it usually accumulates under the blades between the impeller and wear plate causing gouging.

    • @tastycake1969
      @tastycake1969 ปีที่แล้ว

      hahaha. Bob, the engine is seized! You are a genius pointing out that you need a new impeller. And FYI, rocking the flywheel back and forth is fine. Why? Because the engine is SEIZED and the impeller is the least of the problems. hahahhahaha

    How about trim not moving up or down

    • @AdventurePrimal
      @AdventurePrimal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      is that trim for tilting the motor? if so, thats not related to this and I havent looked into that as yet. This motor did not have a motorised trim, only manual settings.
