Obama and Kenyan President clash over gay rights in Africa - Daily Mail

  • Obama, whose father was Kenyan and has dozens of relatives in the country, hailed a 'continent on the move' which is lifting its citizens 'out of poverty' in a speech Saturday at a business event (left) in Nairobi. Thousands flocked to the streets to see Obama, who has a huge following in Kenya, where a school (bottom right) and dozens of children (such as they three Barack Obamas, top right) are named in his honor.

      @@222Vroom I don't think he does, I think he just downplays in an intelligent manner the inhumane and evil beliefs of traditional cultures like Kenya's. That's the humanist answer, but not the realist one. Things can't change quickly. We can fight for it, but I mean (to give an objective answer) we don't like three-wheeled cars in the West typically, but some countries take pride in them, practically. It's hard to make a comparison when development disparities are so high and there are so many different factors at play, and yes, you can sympathise, but there's not really a lot one can do from the outside looking in. @@miguelpadeiro762 The problem is that this will require a large amount of resources being put towards re-education and a strong drive to change the mindset of the general populace. That is a very tough thing to do. India struggled with this as well, it wasn't until 2018 that Section 377 was declared unconstitutional. It takes a long time to change a mindset, especially of those who are going through so much other than this right now.

    • @miguelpadeiro762
      @miguelpadeiro762 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@shredheadterminal That is why I am merely promoting legislative reforms and not educational ones. Because yes, you can't just change a people's mindset in a day, but you can stop the laws suppressing people for their sexuality, even if de facto (as in it is still in the law, but you wouldn't get prosecuted)
      Educating the people is a slow process, a shift of society from traditional mindsets that, say, sodomy is evil, to more accepting mindsets, say, do whatever you want in the bedroom as long as you are two consenting adults.
      The process was slow in places like Europe, still a bit of anti-homosexual sentiment, most times religiously-fueled, here, wouldn't expect it to be any different there.
      So that's my point, takes year if not decades to change the mindset, takes far less time to abolish prosecution based on sexuality. I say this because these so called "brave presidents" say they can't act on it because hunger and other humanitarian problems...when this is one of them. If there's something I can't stand it is politicians using honey-ed words to distract you from an issue.

Just say that don't pussy foot around the issue. I am not a liberal or anything like that I am actually quite liberation.
