In this video we are delivering a 1/4 cord load generated by one of my Facebook marketplace listings. Selling this quantity has proven to be popular and profitable!
Yeah I normally have weight on the back of my tractor. I was on a little bit of an incline and that’s what caused the problem. If you run a front end loader or forks the first thing you learn is to be ready to drop your load to the ground when you feel that tip coming!
$150 for a 1/4 cord! DANG OGF!!! You are the man! I just raised my price to $150 for a 1/3 cord... But, for folks close by (5 miles or so) I sell 1/6 (~20 cu-ft) for $100... I have a lot of neighborhoods around so that's why I started doing that... Congrats on the subscribers. I'm hoping to go from 856 to 857 this year. I figure if I stay lazy in the content department I just might hit that goal! LOL
Hey Jason… happy New Year! At $100 for 1/6 cord you are generating the same $ per cord as I am! Affluent neighborhoods are the key. They want recreational wood and don’t want a huge stack to deal with.
New to the channel. Great straight up vid. You mentioned upgrading your equipment. You appear to be pushing on some years as am I (63 years young). I would seriously consider a backhoe of some sort. I have a const. grade John Deere 110 TLB that is perfect IMHO. I made a wood splitter attachment for it and boy is that the life. You sit on the backhoe and split + dump directly into the tote for drying (randomly stacked). Not to mention you can pick the log up with the splitter for bucking into rounds. It isn't as fast as a dedicated splitter (1/3 slower I'd say but no added piece of equipment to maintain. Just something to ponder.
@@TH-camr-mc2el thanks for watching, commenting, and hopefully subscribing! I’m 75 and try to work smarter and not harder. Watch some of my videos on my Eastonmade 22-28 with box wedge and attached conveyor. It is a pretty effortless way to produce large amounts of firewood. I have a backhoe for my Kubota tractor, but find the front mounted grapple works better for moving logs. I hope you will check out some of my older videos!
Happy New Year Dick! With all the dead ash trees up here in NJ/PA/NY we see full cords of wood still at around $250. delivered. Hardly pays to sell wood at that price. I sell a 4'x8' x 16 to 18 " for $100. but no delivery. I do have a good spot for a road side rack, that will improve the $ sales per cord.
Thanks for watching Larry. The 6’x4’ stack is a good amount of wood for the recreational wood burner. If they were to buy an equivalent amount in bundles they would spend over $300, so $150 is very appealing.
Hey there Dick, an happy new year! Wishing you all the best in 2024! Congrats on hitting that 7,500 sub mark! Definitely an awesome milestone, an I’m glad to be part of it! Nice work on the delivery and running through the process of loading with the tote 🔥💯👍. Was thinking where you had the 3pt forks on the back, for some quick ballast perhaps you could have backed up an quickly picked another full tote on the rear and would keep the tractor grounded for time being :). Anyways thanks for having us over, always enjoy my visit to your place! Take good care! Andrew from NB :)
Hi Andrew. Thank you for watching. When moving full totes of green wood I’ll always put a tote of wood on the 3pt forks for counterweight. Since this tote was dry and not quite full I thought my loaded tires would be enough. I won’t make that mistake again!
Made me jump thought she was going over 🫣. Those totes are heavy for sure. I use a 232 new Holland track skid steer and you could feel the weight of them on that! Happy new year sir 👍
Thanks for watching! When you feel it starting to tip you must react by dropping the load. It’s an automatic reaction. I’ll take the time to put counterweights on from now on
Hey Dick. This is such a great way to offer your customers the opportunity to buy what they need or what their budget will allow. When the second tote dropped that certainly isn't a nice feeling. I look at your way as a win win. Kenny
Like the 1/4 cord, quick and easy and a nice price for you for the full cord! I haven’t tested it yet but it seems a lightly healed loose tossed or conveyor filled 275 tote is 1/4 cord. Already at 7.5, 10k subs right around the corner!
I think you’re right about the heaped conveyor filled 275 tote being 1/4 cord. I’m going to dump and stack one to make sure. I’m anxious to try your top hinged cut out tote front method too. I think that’s the answer for conveyor filled totes.
Thanks for watching. I always add weight on the three point when I’m lifting totes. I guess I just forgot. You can definitely feel it in the seat of your pants!
Good to start off the new year with some deliveries and sales! We have been doing deliveries and the roadside stand has been doing great since it got colder! You scared me when loading the tote in the truck😳 Take care Dick👊🏻
Thanks Todd. I rushed and didn’t put weight on the back of my tractor. When it starts to tip like that you have to immediately drop your load to the ground to straighten up. Automatic reaction.
Happy new year duck and family and Clifford 2023 was only good because I spent so much time with you I am hoping for a lot more great videos from you and Clifford and hello a well wishes to Jose stay safe my friends
Great idea Dick! Not everyone needs a full cord or even a half cord. This is an affordable option for them. Does this offer apply to all your wood or a specific species? Thanks!
I wouldn't leave the top bar in you will hit your head I would leave the bottom two bars in for side support. Couple bumps and it will all come out. Thanks Dick!
I like Heaths version 2 with those 2 cross sections so you can still stack the totes if you choose too. I'd like to see how that would work using those cross pieces with yours still having the curves.
Hey Jimmie. My tractor isn’t strong enough to stack full totes so it’s not a requirement for me. I’m going to try Heath’s version 3 with the top hinged front.
Thanks for watching my friend. After I published and watched my video I realized what a stupid statement I had made. Obviously 2023 could have been a terrible year for a lot of folks. I apologize. I sincerely hope 2024 is a great year for all my subscribers!
I normally have a box blade or eight box on the back of the tractor but I only had the 3 pt pallet forks on. They just aren’t heavy enough. I should have put a tote of wood on the back forks… that would have worked.
Thanks for showing the delivery end of the firewood business, Dick. Helps a lot!
Thanks Tom. I need to record more deliveries. I worry sometimes that the customer might feel it as an invasion of their privacy.
hi there good show .best to all john
Thanks John. Are you going to make it to Brad’s for the fellowship? Hope to see you.
hi there i am sure going to try , i am a fair weather guy at this point so that will be a big factor . john @@oldguyfirewood
$600 per cord is awesome! I definitely need to try marketing that this spring. Keep up the great work Dick👍👊👍
Thanks Jeremiah. I love getting orders for this quantity. I’m getting the same profit margin as my wholesale bundles but with less labor involved.
Nice work man, I'm glad you didn't flip, or smash your truck. Take it easy bro, see ya in a few weeks ✌️

Hi Kenny. There are a lot of high tech jobs in the area. The younger crowd likes that amount of wood and they don’t blink at spending $150. Win/win!

My wife got us a weight box for our tractor and I filled it with concrete. It helped out a bunch. I’m not a fan of that tippy feeling 😬😬

Wow what's that about $600 a cord
It’s a win/win Pit. It’s a perfect amount for the younger “fire pit” crowd. They don’t blink are spending $150.
Hi Dick, did you have any counterbalance at all when the tractor took a nosedive?
Only the pallet forks. I should have put a tote on them and I wouldn’t have had the problem. Lesson learned!

Thanks for watching. It’s a Kubota L3400, 34hp. The lift capacity isn’t great at about 1100 lbs.
Idk where you lived in 2023 but where I live 2023 was not a good year. I hope 2024 is nothing like it !

If you have the 3 point hitch buy just the bar for the lower 2 points and add suitcase weights from like a John Deere

Awful nice price.
Win/win!
A full cord is typically 4 feet wide by 4 feet high by 8 feet long! 3 Rows of 16" wood =48" wide!! One cord is 128 cubic feet !!

Thanks for watching. Everything you said is spot on. The stack I’m selling is 6’x4’x 16” which is 32 cubic feet of wood = to 1/4 cord.
