faithstawberries owo I have something similar but they’re not mechanical but even so they’re very heavy. These are probably pretty heavy as well.
FUN FACT: If humans had wings, their span would have to be a minimum of double the person's height to achieve actual flight. A 6' person would need a 12' wingspan to gain enough lift and air displacement to fly.
[Edit] after doing some more calculations, I realized that I forgot to correct my earlier statement. A wingspan of double your height will indeed keep you airborne, however you could only maintain flight by surfing on strong air currents. To actually fly, you can factor in wing shapes to find which is best suited for certain types of flight. I'm using Falcon wings in my calculations. A 6'2" person weighing in at an average of 195-200 pounds would need an average wingspan of 24-26 feet to have fully sustained flight. Meaning this wingspan would allow flight without the reliance on air currents. With my personal height of 5'9" and weight of 179.4 pounds, my wingspan [still using Falcon wing-shape] would be approximately 23-24 feet.

Amelie Warneck Interesting, if you are talking about the wings in the video.😮Since I’m 4’9”, my wingspan would have to be at least (My math: 4’9”+4’9” = 5’0”+4’6”) 9’6”, 10 feet basically. That would mean that for me, the size of the wings in the video would be accurate then. *EDIT:* I changed inches in “10 inches basically” to feet. Because of the edit on the OP’s comment, my wings would also have to actually be 20 feet.

I wish they actually hired people like to do this kind of props, this, just with a bit of edit, would look more realistic than 100%cgi done wings.
@@nessyness5447 They actually do use real prop wings for scenes where it isn't moving or just need some simple movements. She even said that she sometimes make wings for "play productions and films".
But as you see in the video, while the wings movements are very mechanically impressive, when the wings need to move, it is a far cry from how actual bird wings behave. Birds can move and flap their wings much faster than can be practically achieved mechanically with a bunch of motors, so there's that limitations. And even when the character is just walking around a scene, you likely will still need CGI to add the subtle bits of movements that makes the wings looks like a natural part of the character's body rather than a mechanical attachment.
Also, if a characters have wings, they are almost contractually obligated to have that character fly at some point. There's no way you can film a believable depiction of flying with just mechanical wings, so CGI are going to be required anyway for those scenes.

to be fair these wings take a lot of time to make and only 1 person makes them.
Actually the channel Axceleration did a video on how to make your own pair a few years back but I think she made a newer one too. If your willing to make your own her video is very easy to follow along with :)
Ash Therry honestly, if this was a few years back, i would have the time. As of today i have to set up a new 20 gallon aquarium for my current Gold Dust Molly and set up my spare 5.5 gallon as a quarantine for the new gold dust mollies im getting since the rest of the school was killed off by my betta. I didn't expect the Molly (Star) to grow at the rate she has been, and she is now a lot bigger. On top of this I need to care for the betta (Orion) since he's been displaying signs of boredom (my mom calls it "fish deprish") and the setup is more for the benifit of the Molly, so I'll need to completely change his setup. On top of this I'll need to move him to my side of the room in sharing with my sister since the 20 gallon is going where the 10 gallon currently is. I also need to get Orion the correct food, since my parents only bought flake food for the mollies. Basically I need to spoil my pets even further, which they kinda deserve it, and as a freshman i have about 60 different assignments I need to make up since I was out for 2 weeks because i got surgery. The joys of being 14 :D
Just kidding. Though I do need to do all of the above, it'll probably take around 3-4 hours. If I don't get around to Orion's tank today then I can always do it tomorrow. After all it was cleaned out entirely yesterday. My main focus is getting the Molly out of the 10 gallon. Orion isn't exactly "Community Quality"
Plus the living room is really loud. Loud noises freak him out. And I wont have to deal with my brother and sister sitting in front of the tank all the time.
I'll definitely have time this weekend though. If not I shall make it so that I have time :<

@@Laridaelover3000 yeah. The legs of a human weigh us down too, and we don't have powerful enough muscles to flap wings on our shoulders that would be big enough to carry our whole weight. We also have nothing on our legs that could function as flapping to help us stay up. There are a lot of problems with trying to get a human to fly, so we may as well just become birds at that point.
