    Fantastic 🔥🔥🔥🔥👊🏻
Love the Farmer…. had mine a few years now and it was my first Alox SAK.

Every time I watch one of your Victorinox videos, it makes me want to expand my collection - even though I’ve got plenty and know them all inside out. The Farmer is one not currently in my lineup…
I also agree with your point about the reamer, much better placement on alox than celidor

From memory, I believe the Bushcraft community voted it 'knife of choice' in 2005...
Which made complete sense to me, as it's all you really need, unless you find a 'Bushcrafter' almost the same as a Farmer, but without the opening layer...

      I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Agreed, ideally, I would welcome a second blade on it, too 👌🏼
You may remember the Harvester (SAK 7), slide that I embedded early in this video. Well, I use that as it has the hawkbill blade, which I find better suits me when I'm doing some garden maintenance.
Lidl, do some great value secateurs, however recently they're selling some mini shears (Secateur size), which would be worth a look at, as they would be especially good for a container garden on a balcony or patio, even indoor plants 🪴 and makes a good general tool for around the home, too.
So, I may decide to review those...

    • @thevineclimber
      @thevineclimber 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@gadgetgus Yes, absolutely. I think instead of specifically answering your question, I will tell you the things that stood out to me that I really appreciated about this review. I'm going to rewatch it and edit this comment, so I'll let you know when I'm done.
You took it out of the box but did not spend any time looking at the box - good! You included small pictures of the information included with the knife but didn't spend any time on the video talking about them. The information is there if I want it, but if I'm not really interested, it doesn't take up any time in the video. The thing that really first grabbed my attention is that you pointed out that it is a piece of art. As much as we all look at these things, I think that's easy to forget. That comment really grabbed my attention and made me stop and really focus on the appearance of the knife as you continued to display it. Because of what you said. I am leaving this video with a different opinion that I had when I came into it. That is valuable and as a viewer, I feel that is something you have given me, and my response to that is to feel grateful to you and have an increased opinion of your videos in general, because I think that the brain that put them together is insightful.
You pointed out that the pins are nickel silver, which somehow I did not know until this video. That makes the knife seem more valuable. I am embarrassed to publicly admit that I did not know that LOL.
I love the comparison section. I think that this section encourages me as the viewer to engage my own brain in thinking about the farmer and other Swiss army knives I have, which may compare to the farmer. That part feels more interactive than most SAK videos. I like that you point out that the mirror finish inhibits rust, and the detail about how many characters fit in the customization section. These are the kind of details you don't often hear, and I personally found them helpful. I start thinking about what it would be like if my Swiss army knife rusted. I start thinking who could I give this to and what would I write in there? My brain is naturally pulled to interact with the information you presented, and it makes the video feel more personal.
The picture of the different phillips-type screw heads is helpful to someone like me who is not super familiar with these things. I almost paused the video so I could learn that.
The outdoors pictures allow me to picture myself using this knife in that setting. This pulls in my imagination and gets me more interested in the video even at the end.
Other good things I think are that your voice and presentation are amazing. They always are - rock solid. I think my words choice feels a little weird, but you're really made for this kind of presentation - it comes across as well thought-out and yet unrehearsed.
I've no idea what your accent sounds like to other people from Great Britain, but uniformly people from Great Britain sound intelligent to American ears. It's not personal to you, but it's a big bonus because the US is a big place with a lot of TouTube viewers.
I have noticed that your videos are not getting the number of views I think they deserve lately.
I have a couple ideas for videos that I would like to see from you in particular. I know you wanted to do some outdoor videos. But that was probably waylaid by everything that went on. But I would like to see some of these:
Different victorinox and other multi tool phillips type screwdrivers and different Phillips screw heads and how they work together. In particular, I've noted that the piece of garbage called the Gerber shard has a Phillips head that seems far more likely to strip out your screws than ever unscrew anything. I did not predict that and was pretty angry when it happened. How could I have known? Your video can tell me.
In what situations is a 2D Phillips on the can opener good, and when is it inadequate? Since I don't know what the answer to that. I have no idea if there's enough content in that for an entire video.
A comparison video of alox Swiss army knives and their cellidor counterparts. Like, the Farmer and the Camper/Hiker would be a video of extreme interest to me. I think that the way you do your videos would really fit well with this type of information.
I would like to see a video about why you as a carpenter like the Victorinox saw. I don't think that 1 could be done entirely from tabletop. But mostly it could with just a little bit of sawing footage. I don't know how well you're doing if you are not up to making footage of using a saw. I could totally make some footage and send it to you that you could stick in your video. Well, I say that but I really don't know how to send it but we could figure something out.
I would like to see footage from tabletop of how you as a carpenter would use your Swiss army knife. Like really review it from that perspective, is it actually helpful? Would you ever use the straight edge on the fish hook disgorger and descaler? What models would be the best for someone working as a carpenter and why?
Some of these probably seem simplistic but they are things I would like to know and presumably. I'm not the only one - although maybe I am! I know these videos are different from your usual video. But I feel that they would provide supporting information for your knife reviews.

Hi Gus , a nice look at the Farmer . Such a useful tool . When I'm " working " , ( I'm retired now ) , I mostly carry a No. 7 as my secondary carry . You will love that wicked billhook ! Do you know of any alox models with a secondary pen blade , such as on many of the celidor scaled versions ? I do not , but if there was one would like it as I am a massive alox fan . Ordered my first 58 mm., the Mini champ Alox , obvs ! Looking forward to getting that . Anyway Gus , enjoy your weekend , A T B Tony . 🐴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Pioneer x or farmer x , cos you get the essential scissors ✂️, but absolutely beautiful and brilliant anyway

    • @gadgetgus
      @gadgetgus  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Marc 💪
I also rate the Pioneer X highly, especially in an urban environment ✅️
For me, the Farmer X hits that sweet spot, especially when you live in the suburbs, the home 🏡 counties, or similar... as you're in between worlds.
You are close to a town or city, but also have the countryside close, so it's great to have the scissors & saw.
However, I prefer having the Farmer for outdoors, as an ex. RE soldier, I have always found that 'less is more'.
The scissors ✂️ though very convenient & useful, I find superfluous when 'in the field' or doing Bushcraft 🔥
The PX, I mostly use at home or in an urban space, as it suits my individual needs better, as does yours no doubt, for you 😉 which is why I enjoy the EDC community.

I also enjoy the Pioneer X for my urban environment, as the Alox range is simple & stylist, so a great general carry for the office or to have in your 'home office', for arts & crafts etc, etc...
But, when I'm outdoors, the Farmer is one of my go-to's. As a professional tradesman & outdoorsman 🌳🪵🪓🔥
I can rely on it, I find it more comfortable in the hand, as the Farmer is a 3 layer, where the FX is 4 and I don't need the scissors, as I carry scissors in my first aid pouch ⛑️

X55CrMo14, is that just special for 93 mm's?
    I've read that vixtorinox uses X50CrMo15 (?).
Cgpt3.5: A higher carbon content in steel generally results in increased hardness and potential for greater strength. Carbon, when added to steel, forms hard carbide compounds, which contribute to the steel's ability to hold a sharp edge.
With a 0.55% carbon content in X55CrMoV14 compared to 0.5% in X50CrMoV15, the X55CrMoV14 steel might be slightly harder or have a potential for higher hardness. This can mean that knives made from X55CrMoV14 might be able to take and hold a slightly sharper edge compared to X50CrMoV15.
In the case of X50CrMoV15 with 15% chromium and X55CrMoV14 with 14% chromium, the X50CrMoV15 steel might have slightly better corrosion resistance compared to X55CrMoV14

I also had a GAK, still with the saw guard, but traded it many years ago, a real classic!
I would be happy to see your review on it, or I can review it for you... what do you say?
*Though I have a feeling - no can do... 😉
Gotta love the Camper & Huntsman 💪
As always, thanks for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed the review.
      Have a good weekend 🍻
      Be well,
      Atb Gus 👍

Hi Gus, thanks for your reply. Seen a few GAK reviews on U Tube. Mines missing the guard 😕 funny having a tin/bottle opener on the end of saw. I'd stick with the SAK s . Have a good weekend. Keep well 👍

    Is this UK Legal?

      Hey buddy 👊🏼
      Yes, as it's under 75mm/ 3" and a non-fixed blade.
Most SAK's are UK Legal, apart from the models above the Alox 93mm models...
*Always worth checking your local laws for clarity, though... 😉
Hope that helps, and thanks for stopping by,
      ATB Gus 👍🏼

      😁😂🤣
      Well, that's kinda true 👌
Love the SA1, and I rotate it quite often when I'm only gonna need a knife 🔪
However, for me, when I'm outdoors generally, doing some Bushcraft, I bring it/ use it as a back-up knife or even when working as a carpenter/ tradesman, just because I prefer having a saw on me 😉
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment,
      Atb Gus 👍
