    Real shame she never got where she was supposed to go, had such a promising future.

    The sea condition at that beach is usually very dangerous with rip currents and giant waves. Many people died trying to reach the wreck. It's a serious deal.

    So surrealistic!! I am surprized it wasn't used for a James Bond film or on LOST. It is amazing what the sea can do to a 40,000 ton piece of steel.

    In 2nd November 2005 only two days before the SS American Star collapsed is the last visit before the SS American Star collapsed.

    Fantastic video. The motion picture shots (as opposed to the many still photos) make it, especially the missing stern, seem far more surreal - a massive decrepit shell, precariously perched and motionless against the beating waves.

    That looks so amazing to see half a ship sitting near the beach like that. Would have been great to go on board and check it out to see what it was like inside and very eary I imagine.

    About the first week of november 2005, just 3 days after my visit. It was the beggining of the end. A t the end of my video you can see pictures on november 4th where the inclination is very clear.

    I’d like to add a disclaimer. In your description you mention the wreck being gone. However the wreck is still there, it just slipped away and capsized. If the sea level is very low and the waves are calm you are able to see a part of the wreck.

    • @Midicloriano
      @Midicloriano  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, "gone" may be inaccurate, I give you that, but I think it's the better way to explain people that no wreck or part of it it's today fully visible at the beach as they can see in my video. Seeing a shadow underwater it's worthless, in my opinion.

    And about that ladder, it's always been there. It was not added after the accident.

    Pictures of the inside are not mine, but it were taken by people who dared to swim to the wreck. It was a really dangerous thing, few people died trying to reach the wreck. Today, the wreck is gone, look at my other video American Star 2007.

    But just getting near the ship could cost you your life, cause of the giant waves 'round the ship and the sharp rocks. 8 people died before even reaching the ladder on the starboard side due to these risk factors.

    the ladder wasn't always there, it was added by the Spanish Army shortly after the ship got stuck on the beach. Check other photos of the ship if you don't believe me, do a google search for the SS Australis

      dean r Actually the ladders were added to the ship for the tow to Thailand so that the towing crew could easily access the ship if something went wrong, which it did.

      The ship broke into 2 halves 48 hours upon hitting shore, and that was in 1994. The stern section collapsed into port side in 1996. The bow sank in 2013 and now can only be seen barely in low tide. Hope that helped :).
