The fact that the wreck remained above the surface for over a decade being battered by the sea is a testament to how well she was built. The SS America was a product a nation in an era when us Americans concentrated on our infrastructure and build excellent products and didn't run around the world sticking our noses in other peoples business.
After the last twenty years of watching the gradual immolation-by-sea of this ship, it is nice to see this tribute to its building and launch. Lovely video, with footage and stills I've not seen anywhere else. Thanks. -June 1964, New York to Bremerhaven.
I looked on amazon there are about 8 books on the SS United States and none on her. I think the story of the SS America is so interesting. I wish someone would write a book about this ship! In books you can go into more detail! Thank you for the program and all the work you put into it!
Thanks for your kind words Chris, glad you enjoyed the video. There is a book about the ship, but it's not cheap, I would imagine that's because it went out of print a few years ago, however, if you're interested here's a link to it. I got my copy when it first came out about 14 years ago and it's a great read for anyone interested in the ship. Best regards John. www.amazon.co.uk/S-S-America-U-S-S-Point-Australis/dp/188990130X

very nicely done,we enjoyed visiting her many times, still go there even, though she`s now disappeared forever. nice to see that so much about her is documented on films & in photo`s .

Loved it so much, this is in my opinion the best tribute to that ship, ever :) Thanks for spending the time to do it John.

I hope they got her propellers off before she collapsed, they were stored on the bow if im not mistaken
Sadly beautiful, I remember her well, Thank You 💕
Believe it or not many innovations that were pioneered by the S.S. America are still being used today on many cruise ships, what a legacy!
"Brilliant" is the only word I can think of, thanks so much for sharing it. If you ever release it on dvd please let me know.
