This particular one was probably one of the easier ones. I can do a playthrough without a problem. Ninja Gaiden and pretty much any Castlevania games. Now those are punishing games

For me this version of contra is the superior one. The arcade version had shorter levels, better graphics but the music also doesn’t hit the same as this 8bit masterpiece. Defining moment in gaming history without a doubt, one of the greatest games of all time.
I remember calling blockbuster to see if they had a movie available...while playing this game...and the guy on the phone heard the spread gun sound and said..."are you playing Contra?" We became best friends.
