One Day in Greece | The Remote Island of Nisyros
I always love your trips to Greece. Such a peaceful and beautiful place and you always manage to get away from the touristy spots and show us things most other travel channels don’t.
Chris Brown its touristy by the harbour but the shops are interesting. Can get ferry from Kefalos or Kos.
Thank you for taking us places
Thank you Gabe for this video you made years ago .....it is excellent
I just finished watching June 2022 revisited to this island..I missed this one...watched it and absolutely love this island..just wow. I'm planning a trip!
Wow deep blue ocean😊
I can see Gabe why you like Greece ...it's fantastic...
Long live Greece
WE LOVE YOU HERE IN GREECE💜💜💜💜💜💜ΣΕ ΑΓΑΠΑΜΕ ΕΔΩ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΛΛΑΔΑ GABRIEL!!!!
Αφου είναι ο καλύτερος!!
The bluest blue, true blue. Great video.
Just found this video. I was in Nisyros in 1972, A story in itself how I ended up there. There weren't any hotels on the island, so ended up staying at a workers' hostel. There wasn't any place to take a shower on the island when I got there, but a shopkeeper installed a shower outside of the back of his business while I was there, and charged 5 cents US for a shower. In the meantime, a local man took took me to the then-shuttered Loutras baths. The proprietor opened it just for me, and I soaked in a rock-lined cubicle in the basement, the water heated from the volcano. The priest let me ring the bell in the monastery's bell tower. Quite the unexpected adventure in Nisyros.
Wow, times have changed.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Finding your video was a wonderful surprise for me. That's great that you were able to go to Nisyros. I would love to go back for a visit. I'm 75, so guess I better hurry. LOL. Happy travels to you!
Got taken to Nisyros by my Greek friends from Rhodes otherwise might have missed it..just lovely and still dream about the long proper Greek lunch we had..❤️
We are so glad we found your channel! We dream of travelling the world but have a dog that requires special care which keeps us from from air travel. It's great to live vicariously through your videos. Thanks for sharing your adventures!!
Now, I am going back to Greece. You got to me again with your videos. Going in 2 days
Very cool, have a great trip. Which islands?
@@GabrielTravelerVideos I start in Athens on Oct. 3rd and will go somewhere next week. Thinking Crete. I watched 2 years of you showing Crete, I love Santorni and have already been 3 times. You have a suggestion for new place for me? I carry big bags, so I am not backpacker.
Yeah I'd say Crete is a great choice as there's a bit of everything. Definitely recommend Chania and for a mellower scene try to go to Matala. Also Paleochora was quite nice, you can get there by bus from Chania. And Rethymno was good. Heraklion (Iraklio) is more of a big city feel and not as nice as the other places. If you can afford to rent a car that's a great way to go but otherwise the buses work out well and are very cheap. You can get a bus schedule at the bus station in Chania with all the destinations and times.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Thank you for all this great info. I will star this video and make some choices soon. I have traveled full time 7 years and never rented a car. I have debit card, otherwise I would rent all the time and sleep in it. My home in USA is my Honda, but never there. Greece is awesome and missed it watching you travel there. Maybe I will do many places and hang in Greece area all of October. Bless you
@@JesusistheLambofGod Welcome back to my country!!
I love Greece myself, most beautiful place on earth. Love your video, really enjoyable to watch. ❤️👍👁🧿🙀
Beautiful, thank you Gabriel!
Food looks delicious😃
I think Greece is your favorite place.
AC Odyssey convinced me to put Greece on my bucket list. Now you are, too.
Gabriel, you are the best advertisement for our country!
9:02 Don't be surprised Gabriel. Perhaps you don't know that many islanders from the Dodecanese islands have migrated to the USA and Australia. They live there. They usually come back and visit their homes on these islands every summer.
I'm so happy with your "Greek" videos! I love this country so much!
Greece is beautiful... and i love the way you show us around and the music played on this Greece trip...i have finished watching Greece videos now...well done Gabriel...
What a peaceful place. This is an amasing country. I love Greece. The colours are exceptional.
Greece is a country I've always wanted to visit. Amazing how they wedged those stones or bricks to form arches. The moussaka and thin fried zucchini looked awesome. So much history and beauty there. Ty for sharing Gabriel!
Fried zucchini with tzatziki salad on top, my favorite dish, Mmmmmm! Yummmy!!!
Greece and islands is magical and mythical
These white houses in blue and orange windows are just complementing the nature surrounding it !
Γεια σας from Greece to the best travel youtuber!!
Aegean sea looks so good Gabe
Your videos made me fall in love with Greece and this summer I finally went. Before, I used to travel to Spain out of pure habit, but I'll make an effort to explore eastern Mediterranean going forth!
Safe travels my dude!
How was Greece?
@@dokanyon Oh I had a blast! The Greeks are so friendly, for some reason they still don't seem to be super annoyed with so many tourists. In Italy and Spain I've noticed the change in attitudes towards the foreigners. Maybe it did happen in Greece too, I wouldn't be able to say since this was my first visit, but honestly I can't imagine anyone being more hospitable. Even in the hotel, the approach was warmer and less formal than I'm used to and then in the apartment we rented in Crete, this old couple who rents it out didn't just give us the keys, they literally welcomed us as if we were family. :)

Great experiece...👍👍👍
Hei Gabriel.I m glad you love Greece and having such a nice time here but I was just wondering why you don t have any videos about mainland Greece.Haven t you been there. If not I strongly recommend that you do.These are some places that deserve to be on your list.Ioannina city and Zagori villages and Pindus mountain region is one off the best.Parga and the ionian riviera along with Acheron river in epirus is another.Meteora, old town of Ksanthi and the Rhodope mountains,Pilio region and the Sporades islands,Prespes lakes,Nimfaio village and the Pozar hot springs at north Greece and in the Pelloponese there is Mani peninsula, the caves of Diros and the mountain villages of Arkadia(Vitina,Stemnitsa etc)I know you love adventure. This places will be great for you, especially in autumn, winter and spring.Check them out,I m sure you ll find them very interesting and you ll have the chance to see a completely different face of Greece and I m sure your subscribers will enjoy it to.Thanks.I hope you ll be back in Greece soon.Kalimera!!!!
Wowww, so much more to visit...it s UNBELIEVABLE...👍👍
23.03 Breathtaking scenery. Bet the smell of that food made you hungry after all that walking!
I never knew this info.. Thanks. Im danish so ive been there a ton of times as well but more so touristy stuff
Beautiful place, I can actually hear the greenery blowing in the wind. Very relaxing, indeed. Thanks for the showing Gabriel...... couldn't have done it without you ❤️
beautiful place
Another one beautiful Greek island, another one great video!
Fantastic!
This makes me want to pack my bags and go to Greece, if only I wasn't broke.
hahahaha same here
Agreed.
I' m Greek and broke. At least I' m already here.😁😁😁😁😁😁
@@eleniasimop Haha
@@eleniasimop I'm now broke after I just returned from Greece. But I would like to return in a split second, if I would not be already broke.
Gabe I also am a philhellene! Love your raw travel videos. Out of the 20+ countries I have visited. I have returned to the Greek isles multiple times. I have even considered possibly starting a life there of some sort. Whether it’s to move there or get involved into some type of business in the tourism sector. Can you make a video about how American citizens can be legal to reside and/or have a cash-generating business there? Just an idea. You are a well informed brother and I think you know where to look :)
A real estate business would be a good idea, especially if you can find clients from the US and overseas. But you will need to learn Greek, at least a basic level.
@@aelarisa983 I don't think it's necessary to learn greek because he wants to make business. Almost every Greek knows English more or less.

👍👍👍
Awesome! Found you yesterday and love it!
Great, welcome to my adventures.
I love all your videos but of course i click asap when i see Greece, i would love to see you travel northern Greece and generally mainland and Peloponnese
I have not been to Nisyros island, as many Greeks like me. It's a pity cause it's a beautiful island.
I never been to Greece but after watching your videos I feel like I know the country.
Man
Your videos are great. I hope to be able to go to Greece in the next 2-4 years.
TH-cam has really made life easier in so many ways, but it still take people like you to make this stuff available...
Ty
Cool, glad you like the vids.
Thank you Gabriel! Love all the alley ways and buildings, if they could only talk 😎 alot of history! Greece is so beautiful, love when you always take us back. Stay safe my friend 😊❤🙏
Wonderful video from Greece ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍺
I enjoyed your video so much, also i am learning english from your video. tk you for making fabulous vid
Beautiful music and island! Thank you for your videos!
Another wonderful video Gabriel ...Keep up the travels.
I love all of your content around the mediterranean. One day when I win the lottery I'm going to spend every summer sailing around the med visiting all of the different countries & islands, I'll be sure to send you an invite
Sounds like a plan man, good luck!
Please invite me as well. :-)
Superb place to look round thanks!
You’re like the only tourist there, beautiful island
Love your videos. You are so brave.
very informative and thank you for showing us this place...never heard of it until your introduce the volvanic island of nisyros
One of the first comments, can't believe it!
Just wanted to thank you Gabriel, for being such an inspiration and to show us the world as it is!
Respect to you
Amazing small town! White and blue. And this narrow walkway! And my only wish- to see how this houses are inside! And - da-dam!!- you are showing how they look inside, and doesn’t matter, that they are ruins!! They still are stunning!! Thank you
Nice and cool...waiting to see your next destination Gabriel!
Absolutely gorgeous !!
And all those ruins !!
I Googled this lovely little Island.
Meanwhile they have 1008 inhabitants 😏
I have been to Nisiros 2007 and it was the best holidays!!
Loves to travel with you..
really good video. thank you.
So cool to watch you exploring these places - it looks gorgeous there.
I just got back from Switzerland a month ago, your videos inspired me to check out the Swiss Alps and I wasn't disappointed!!
I'd like to visit here!
Vow so adventurous interesting video
Thank you great epic content
Nice video mate.
Excellent! you show everything in your vlogs.
Nice vid. Thanks.
Wow, that looks so freaking Awesome dude What a great place to have a view and have a motor scooter to ride around must be so fun dude
The old town is really similar to the old town in Symi - You can still see furniture in the ruins and its easy to get lost in the labyrinth of lanes. The old town of Symi was bombed in World war 11. Both islands are in the Dodecanese - so similar architecture.
I like how you explore and not follow the masses, it's super interesting. Got curious about those abandoned stone houses, they look old, probably some earthquake damage there too. Subbed!
♥️Grazie mille... Gabriel 👍👍
Great work my friend 👍👍👍👍🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
Right at the end Gabriel, where you are sat with your meal ( looks like Blue Note Taverna) we travel every year on one of the boats just to the right of the taverna your in. It’s been great watch your channel to see some of the islands we travel round in the 2 weeks we are on board
Nice video Gabriel... place looked deserted.. u could live in one of those old run down places.... by the way that hole looked like a toilet.... haha... Safe travels.. 👍👍
Greece looks fricken amazing to explore!
just finished reading Origin . excellent book. x
Go to Rhodes!
Bravo eccellente, saluti
Nice videos man, next time you visit Greece, i recommend to visit Skyros Island in Center of Aegean Sea you'll be amazed!!!
Sounds good, thanks for the tip.
It seems I'm walking through the streets of Greece
Amazing view. ขอบคุณ
Hi Gabriel, You're definitely burning some energy walking around those islands exploring all there is to explore I'm sure you come across things you didn't see the last time you were there. You're not going to put on any weight any time soon.
Another beautiful cozy little island it seems. I like it. Wish the pandemic would end asap and I could travel again without pcr or proof of vaccination, or quarantine...
Since you like remote and quiet islands, you should visit Leipsoi (Λειψοί) and Arkioi (Αρκιοί) islands. Those are 30 minutes by ferry off the north coast of Patmos island. They are small, calm and with great food and beaches!

@@GabrielTravelerVideos Ha ha! Nice!
@@paokman That was almost exactly ten years ago. I was there in early October 2009.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos I was there this July. Nice place to swim allday and relax reading books!
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Dimman Oik posted a nice short (3min) video -fun to watch - about his vacation at Leipsoi - Lipsi island summer 2019
I see you have a commercial in this video. That’s new. Lots of abandoned homes. Land for sale. Love seeing all the back streets and ruins. Although sad that so much is just falling apart. All those places so close to the sea 🌊 all abandoned. Sad 😞
A lot of nice 'fixer-uppers' in that village!
Awesome videos
Its called a toilet, Gabe
Makes sense.
It's a well.
I love how he puts the camera down the shitter in awe of its greatness lol
David Moser 😂
It s a water reservoir, collects the rain water from the paths.
I drove my motorhome from the UK and based myself in Kos. I visited Nisyros 2019 and stayed at the Prophet Ellias church that overlooks Nikkia. I intended to stay 4 days but stayed 10. Whilst at the Prophet Ellias church at 5am I awoke, made a coffee, then played, and sang, 'My Way' by Frank Sinatra.... after my performance a lady appeared clapping!! After the initial embarrassment and after a brief chat we arranged to meet for a friendly coffee and a chat. She never told me her name BUT I have since found a picture of this lady who I believe to be Dean Martin's Daughter Deana. What a coincidence!!
Whoa, very cool.
Nice thx man
Very nice.
Love your broadcast. Check out Brian Forester (sp?) related to megalithic construction. Seemed like you briefly focused in on super early. :))
Dear God! You've got to finish the story of Diana! Second time I've heard you mention her, and my curiosity has peaked! Lol! Say it ended well.
Hi, here's the full story: th-cam.com/video/dyNKkKqQN7Q/w-d-xo.html
I have been to Nisyros, in the late eighties, it
was only one small Hotel in the island at that time I bet is different now.
Wow that moussaka looked delicious. How was it?
It was good but it was so dang hot, it took a half hour before it cooled down enough that I could eat it.
5th!!!! dam slow greek internet!!! hahah cheers gabe!
😂 in Philadelphia the internet is just fine lol
It's so bad in Greece, especially on the islands, some of the worst in the world. In Athens you can find decent wifi.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos you're a better man than me! Bcuz if I was there I'd give 2 shits about the internet. Some food & one of those "goddesses" .....wtf is "internet"? Lol
There's a part of me that would love to chuck my computer off the boat and just travel...but youtube is my thing right now so I'm sticking with it, which means internet speeds rule your life. For one of my recent videos I literally went to about ten different places (hotels, restaurants and internet cafes) before finally getting it uploaded.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos & THATS why we love you brother. You're responsible & you care.....now me on the other hand.....😂😂😂💯
best Gabe ;)
I always like it best when you film your return to what I would call "civilisation", Mate. (20:35 and above).
The Ouzo always looks DE-LISH!
What KIND of Moussaka was it that you ate at the tail end of this video, please? The dish can be filled with all manner of ... well. stuff (different meats and such).
Not sure but ground beef I believe.
Not sure but ground beef I believe.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Now, don’t they put different kinds of meat in that dish, Gabe?
@@SuiGenerisAbbie
Maybe mutton...sheep?
Thanks for the video. I spent a month working from Lesbos in 2019 and the internet was superfast, so I have to disagree with you on slow island internet!
That's good to hear. I'll believe it when I see it. So far it's been super slow on pretty much all the islands I've been to.
Your most favorite places: Greece, India and lastly Nepal. Just a guess. ;)
