    This is definetly guided towards lighter people. I'm 6'4" with 6'8" wingspan and weigh 220 lbs, this standard would mean I should at least Bench Press 385 lbs. I even know competitive powerlifters of my weightclass that can't bench that. (2x bodyweight squat is achievable, but 1.75 bench is insane)

    • @maat826
      @maat826 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      1.25 was the standard. 1.75 was for a football player or wrestler which I don't think is out of the question at least at a high level

    • @theladdiesda8190
      @theladdiesda8190 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not insane at all.
      Double bw is common in powerlifting even at heavier weight classes.
      I've hit 440 at 210 and 5'11" and I'm nowhere near national level powerlifting standard

    • @rufushughes4331
      @rufushughes4331 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theladdiesda8190 1.75 is definitely achievable. I was 220+ last summer when I hit 345 for 2. Earlier this year, I switched to Incline Press as my primary chest lift. Been focusing on building my upper chest. I am now down to 207 BW and incline pressing 245 for 2. After I finish this training block, I may got back to flat bench. We shall see. I want to hit at least a 450 at sub 200 BW at some point. I am 40, also.

      a common strength and conditioning exercise for grapplers, especially wrestlers and judoka is to pick people up and run around the mat so it makes sense why you would need to lift twice your own body weight

    I'm nearly there on most of the standards for heavy opposition but still got a way to go on the bench press (I meet all of the light opposition standards)
    bench has always been my worst lift, maybe due to long arms?.

    • @VikingSloth

      Same issue here. I'm 5'11" with about a 6'4" wingspan. I dread when I have to put in a heavy session on bench press or do high volume work like pushups. It takes so much mental energy to perform well compared to other movement patterns and fatigues the hell out of me
