Those 334 can make an easy 420 hp. Thanks for building it since its not common. Not many people know that you can now get good aluminum heads from Trick Flow for the 305 and they can be improved while keeping the stock valve size if you get someone like Llyod Elliot to port them. Trick Flow 350 heads are possible if you clear the top of the cylinder bore so the larger 2.02" intake valve can clear it.
Hey, super interested in doing a similar build in my 81 el camino. Ive got a few questions if you don’t care, I know to make a 334 you need a 3.75 crank from a 400 but what kind of pistons or connecting rods are needed or will stock work, what did you use? Is there any boring or machining needed on the 305 block? Just any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, my 305 is bone stock other than a carb.
@@ghostroaster2467 so, yes you’ll need machine work for the crank at least for clearancing. Probably wouldn’t be bad to get a bore over as well. I used my stock rods and a KB piston. Looking back I probably would have went with a 6 in rod and a DSS piston. If you ever plan on using nitrous def go with a DSS forged piston. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask! Hope the el Camino project goes well!! I had an 81 for my first car. Base model, 267v8. Loved it
The oil pressure gauge isn’t controlled by the ECM. It’s wired completely independent of the ECM harness. The oil pressure signal wire that goes to the sending unit is the tan wire that is on the factory 3-wire CFI pigtail that connected to the factory sending unit. Check for continuity at that wire. If the wire is not open, it’s a problem with the PCB or the gauge itself. You should be able to ground the tan sending unit wire and the gauge will go to “0”.
Most people want a 350 small block Chevrolet V8 engines because they have a lot of horsepower but depending on crate engine dealer it’s expensive the 305 does need some machine work and performance parts but it’s cheaper though
Nice one brother, appreciate all the info!

Awesome video and really descriptive. I’m trying to stroke my 305 in a 87 Firebird and this is really helpful
334 makes a hell of a work truck engine I've built a few of them very cheap to build since nobody wants a 305

I hit like before watching the video.
