Lolwish i had the pull out cupholder... i Love my 1990 z24. Wide tires in the front and she wil dig dig and dig
Cowl Induction IS functional on the Z24 cars.
Nice find, this will support a fair bit of power. The mechanical secondaries are a huge performance advantage on the right car. Have you had a chance to take the car to the track with this new setup?
Scoops in the Z24 cavalier there are not fakes, if you notice they have an air duct in the hood directly to the air intake. Is the first thing i saw in a Z24
Hey buddy haha forgot you had a TH-cam but im about to get one of these what fuel pressure do you run?
Fibre glass lots of body putty and 3 pop rivets on each side at bottom holding the body to the chassis I was a pre fitter at a company building those cars you don't want to get into a accident with a cobra
😍😍😍😍😍😍
Cool. Great job
Bro I have a silverado as well and I couldn’t close it! How do I get it to close?!
I think those are original seats on the front (no adjustable headrest). Slightly different from the 1988-1990 Z24 seats, which had adjustable headrests. The 3rd gen cavalier (1995 onward) had different designed original seats. These cars competed with the 92-94 Plymouth Sundance Duster/ Dodge Shadow ES and both were similarly equipped with v6 engines and minimal options, although the Duster/ Shadow ES twins were slightly cheaper than the Z24/ Sunbird GT.
My First Car was a 1990 Cavalier Z 24. I loved that car. Very nostalgic! Thanks for sharing.
Hey, super interested in doing a similar build in my 81 el camino. Ive got a few questions if you don’t care, I know to make a 334 you need a 3.75 crank from a 400 but what kind of pistons or connecting rods are needed or will stock work, what did you use? Is there any boring or machining needed on the 305 block? Just any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, my 305 is bone stock other than a carb.
@@ghostroaster2467 so, yes you’ll need machine work for the crank at least for clearancing. Probably wouldn’t be bad to get a bore over as well. I used my stock rods and a KB piston. Looking back I probably would have went with a 6 in rod and a DSS piston. If you ever plan on using nitrous def go with a DSS forged piston. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask! Hope the el Camino project goes well!! I had an 81 for my first car. Base model, 267v8. Loved it
When I was a kid in the early 90s people thought cars like this and the Beretta looked alright but were just cute grocery haulers. Of course those people had grown up with old 60s and 70s cars everywhere, and they experienced the gradual decline in power of cars from their youth and into the 90s. So the general consensus seemed to me, that the grown-ups thought the world was going to hell in a handbasket made by GM. And that was before the JDM customization craze.
Loved the colored flow tie on them. I had a BLACK 1991 Z24 as well
It's all fun and games until that tap breaks off in there...
Man... My favorite car of all time is my 89 Z24 in blue and silver. I live in MD and would totally have purchased that off yall. Let me know if you need a second hood. I have a red hood that was taken off a 93 z24. I had a bunch of mods done to mine before I had to get rid of it. I had a pizza delivery driver drive right into my car and totaled it in front of my house. Then it spun a bearing when I was able to get it back on the road and then I parted it out and had to get rid of it. I have been looking for another one but they are harder to find now.
Try removing some weight
Nice one brother, appreciate all the info!
Yoo lo quiero😍😍
Those 334 can make an easy 420 hp. Thanks for building it since its not common. Not many people know that you can now get good aluminum heads from Trick Flow for the 305 and they can be improved while keeping the stock valve size if you get someone like Llyod Elliot to port them. Trick Flow 350 heads are possible if you clear the top of the cylinder bore so the larger 2.02" intake valve can clear it.
I hit like before watching the video.
Currently work on my project 87 Z24 5 speed. And yes, they are increasing in popularity and are getting difficult to find.
I’m looking at buying this exact car right now
Too bad they don't make a larger version of this carb that can handle a 454.
There is like an 800 or 850 version. I think the list number is like a 6212 or 6213.
@brandt_murphy_garage My only issue is they're double pumpers. I've been told vacuum secondaries would be better for towing. Probably will just stick with the Q-Jet to feed the 454 in my C30.
I just acquired the same carb for my ‘89 3rd gen bird 305. I’ll be installing a Summit 1785 cam. What jet sizes are you using in the primary metering block?
That’s the same can I have as well. I believe, the stock ones are 62s or 64s. Then I have 83s in the secondaries
Thanks! I’m not sure what’s in the carb because I didn’t take it apart yet just looking for a good starting point.
16 is combine.
The '91 was my first car. But the sunroof was badly damaged, found that out on a rainy day. My cousin and I fiberglass it shut. But you said joking about the engine...did you get to open it on a highway or something? Or did i buy a sleeper without knowing, cause i was giving a lot of racers headaches with my car 😂. Think of initial d vibe 🤷🏾♂️...Anyways had a lot of fun and memories with that car...
Yo what’s up dude. El guapo in the house!
PCV Positive Crankcase Ventilation PCV valves absolutely go bad. They're a wear item and should be replaced every so often.
Did I say PVC? 😂😂😂
@@brandt_murphy_garage Yeah I think you did
@@technician122 lol my bad
@@brandt_murphy_garage lol ur good I've mixed it up too
Great vid, thinking of getting a 2024 rebel
Nice! Gasser or Cummins?
@@brandt_murphy_garage I’m leaning towards Cummins, not sure what gets better mileage though as I’m going to be pulling a toy hauler
@@sickyicky_wk2 the Cummins will be better on mileage while towing. I got the gasser because I’m not towing my camper a lot, but if I were doing more trips I probably would have tried finding a Cummins
@@brandt_murphy_garage I’d like to think I’m going to be taking trips at least every other month but I think in reality it may only be a handful of times a year. I was also thinking of getting a Durango but I really want a truck
Thanks, nicely done.
I like those old vans like that
Letssss Goooo 💪🏻 gonna be a fun project! lots of work to be done but I know we can handle it! Happy to collab again with ya bro!
Hey brother I can’t wait to see if we can get her on the road. Gonna need a couple face shields for driving 😂
Did you check the fluid levels warm !? Mine was 1/2 from the hash lines .. and never moved .. it was short . Not burnt 🥵. Idling for 5 mins .. does wonders of levels corrections
83?
700r4 was messed from factory lol
What song is that
MANY ENGINES N TRANSMISSIONS CAN GO INTO THAT GEM
Fix it junk it or sell it
Nothing wrong with deciding that something is beyond your (current) abilities and going another direction. My guess is that the gaskets you "matched up with the old ones" were wrong to begin with but.... having messed with Holleys for more than 40 years, I'm not going to sit On High and tell you I could easily diagnose what's wrong with it across the internet.
Idk man, the holes were in the exact same spot as the old ones. I put them up against eachother to verify Holley sent me the right ones in the 4165 rebuild kit. I’m stumped.
Thanks COOP ...
12.87 106mph street tire on trackmode
You're the third owner that will never run it.
I loved this car I had one . 1993 z24 Black!!
What’s the difference between the Rebel suspension and the “Off-road Package” that can be optioned on other trims? Shocks look the same. 🤷♂️
The rebel is more than just shocks. While it probably does share the same shocks as the Off Road Package, it comes from the factory with a 2 in lift, giving it about 11 inches of ground clearance. It comes with a 3 link front and 5 link rear suspension. It also features a 20 inch wheel and tire combo specific to the rebel and a rear axel locker. If you want the sway bar disconnects and a front axel locker and about another inch lift then go to the power wagon. But you can’t get a diesel with the power wagon, you can with the rebel. Oh and a little extra piece, if you get the gas rebel, you can option to get the wench
You surely know that everyone who’s had one says they do not work well but everyone who see’s it wants one.i used to dream about one but I’m happy with the single plane unit I have.
The ones who don’t follow the instructions on how to properly space and jet the carb says they don’t work well. And if you’re buying one to just cruise the street then obviously it’s not the right intake
GROOVY!
The problem with the whole thing was that Smokey had designed a specific set of headers and a specific Racer Brown Camshaft to be used with this manifold and was designed for oval track / road racing use ( IE Open Exhaust and approx 4000 to 7300 RPM range and not for street use. Part throttle mixture distribution was not good hence the need for Stagger jetting as mentioned previously mentioned as well as getting your accelerator pump nozzles , pump cam and the right 50 cc diaphram dialed in with such a large plenum made tuning a head ache . Smokey said when used as he did it worked great but Smokey didn't like sharing secrets and since many people were trying it for street or drag race use that it was never intended for. Edelbrock even insisted that Smokeys name and phone number was to be on the instruction sheet so Smokey would have to deal with all the phone calls of people trying to figure out how to make this manifold work with their own combinations because Edelbrock knew it was a tempermental manifold to get to work correctly from their own dyno testing..... Remember also that back then everyone was using OE iron heads and what we have today is far better than anything we had back in the early to mid 70's when this manifold was designed. Back then aftermarket Alum heads like Brownfields were just still trying to figure out how to build heads better than the ported OE ones..... a manifold from a different era but you can still have some fun with it.
SY-1 is the business…
Do you have to pull both loops to open the cover?
Just one!
