Tum Baat Toh Karte | Episode 2 | Milkar Rehna Mushkil Kyun?

  • What does an inclusive society look like, and how inclusive are we as Indians? What does inclusion mean, and where should we start?
‘Tum Baat Toh Karte’ is my attempt to raise questions we need to ask ourselves as a nation and people. These questions may be uncomfortable, and it may be politically incorrect to ask them these days. However, I believe that a conversation done with the intent to grow as a community will find participants.
While building these conversations, I’ve imagined a set of close friends and family who may be in the same room when this conversation is happening. The larger intent is to invite more people to engage with us, as well as each other, about the kind of country we want to build together.

This is absolutely brilliant! Why are we, "apparently" an intelligent nation, not able to grasp this simple idea? The quotes around "apparently" are by design because I believe we lack the humility to admit we are not as great as we think we are. We blame various ministers and heads of state, the government, the police, the judiciary forgetting that we are the people who are responsible for putting the power in sub-standard hands. If only we uphold the principles of Equality, Fraternity, and Justice for all of us, no two-bit politician will be able to divide and rule us. At any rate, I have only two more words for you, and I hope you will appreciate the depth of emotion that these words convey... "Thank you"

Travel is the best teacher. It is during one's travels that one learns to appreciate the lifestyles of different cultures. It is this lack of appreciation that has led to the current unholy segregation and social division. And perhaps a poor education system has not helped.

Sir, I highly revere you for the subject and the way it is put forth. Its gives a great sense of hope and I understand, belive and trust that change is constant and we would definitely bring in change that we have been dreaming of.
The highlights of your video in short I would like to put in short.
    1. Let's choose to be responsive than reactive.
    2. The difference is never hatred.
    3. Let's not be judgemental.
    4. Let's fight prejudice
    5. Accept
    6. Food, attire, custom religion faith and favourite hero actor minister or party are personal choices.
    7. Above all question everything we see or hear.
Let's give a better country to our next generation not a vulnerable country where they lose the right to speak or express.
    Waiting for the next episode.

Bricks build a house. Values build a nation. Can hatred ever be a desirable value? To rule, someone may want to divide. But to serve, we have to unite.
    This choice is with us.
Sri Aurobindo and the mother talk about a lower vital which is the seat of power, hate, jealousy, rage, divisiveness, ego. And the higher vital that is the seat of love, compassion, unity, harmony, soul.
Lower vital can be more easily activated and the fire can spread quite rapidly.
We have to choose which vital to operate from.
Thank you for this open and reflection inducing fireside chat dear @vineet, and for articulating a vision of the Bharat we really need.
We can't call ourselves developed based on our GDP and Infrastructure. We can only call ourselves Developed based on the human centred values we exhibit, the culture we embody, the spirit of win win that we espouse, and the leadership we role model.
    God bless India.

Every one is becoming so homophobic of all sorts. it is impossible to even discus this over a chai with friends... coz if you do so by the time you finish the chai...friends could be foes! Hum kabhi bachpan mein sochte tak nahi the ki samne wala kis dharam ka hai, today children have that as the first indicator from the names of their friends, classmates and whoever they meet! it is so sad. pata nahi...aur kitna neeche girengey hum!!! Alas!...but ofcourse I grab all opportunity to fan the spirit of diversity which is the crux of our country...our beautiful customs , communities and communions.

Coming back to the issue I had raised in your first episode, namely, having the programme in Hindi (more correctly in Hinglish) perforce excludes half the country, since your programme is designed to be a 'conversation' in a relaxed fashion, sans the breathless immediacy of 'breaking news', why don't you think of putting subtitles in English?
I think your conversations are interesting in the sense they provide a fresh perspective to see mundane things in a different light, and this is why perhaps you should aim to include a larger audience, particularly people like me residing to the south of the Vindhyas.

'Us versus Them' is an age-old tribal practice. In modern times these divisive tribal tendencies are superseded by a more egalitarian value of unity in diversity. Unfortunately, in quest for power there are putative 'leaders' who deliberately provoke and exploit our tribal instincts; to divide people so as to shore up their power base. In recent times this phenomenon of differentiating people has gained momentum, particularly when our 'leaders' have very little to show on the ground.
In the early 70s I went to an elite institute (IIT) where students came from every corner of the country, from every layer of our population but never did it once occur to us to harp on differences; in fact, we were true egalitarians believing in fraternity of the alumni. We still basked in the lofty ideals that were the founding ethos of modern, independent India.
Today, it is most depressing to see how toxic hatred is being spewed and spread to destroy the very fabric of our society; it is frightening to see how hatred has become the new addiction of the masses peddled in the name of some misplaced 'nationalism.' To me a true patriot is someone who loves his or her country so much that she or he doesn't hesitate to question everything, to make the country even better, and never boast it is the best.
My heartfelt thanks for bringing up this for us to introspect on.

Like when people from Punjabi, bengali and tamils, fight among themselves they are fighting their own brothers just the difference is that their religion and countries have changed and so is their thoughts due to their government propaganda. They have the same culture but their govt. has made them believe such that if they do not speak against or attack them in a certain way they would not be a true deshbakt.

I believe that for them its just been over 75-80 years for most of us in border states but inner india who hate each other just because they have a different religion may be their ancestors were also the same its just been 10-times longer i believe, we are just fighting, lynching and killing our own brothers. I think the linguistic basis of organising our nation was wrong. Gave rise to xenophobia.
Adopting English as a national language , like Singapore would also help unite us as one people.

I don't have a clear answer for this, Gautam, and thank you for sharing your perspective. The question of linguistic diversity and national unity is indeed a complex and multifaceted one. While adopting English as a national language could facilitate communication and unity in a diverse country like ours, it's essential to approach such decisions with careful consideration of the cultural, historical, and linguistic diversity of our nation. Finding a balance that respects and celebrates our linguistic heritage while promoting unity is a significant challenge...iske liye kisi expert of dhoondhta hun. Mujhe nahi aata.
