Awesome build. I'm Australian and have been a big fan of Toranas my whole life. I had an LC Torana with a racing 6 cylinder for my first car. Always wanted one of these. Unfortunately due to their rarity they are too expensive now days. If i was to build one it would be exactly like yours. Great stuff and keep up the good work.
Hi Dean, that LC would have been a lot of fun. I have one with a 179 and 4 speed and it is a great little car. If you're really keen to get an LX like Uwe's, join a club or a forum and start saving, you can get one if you really want it.
I can only like this video once. Unfortunately. Congratulations on turning this Aussie classic into the beast that it is. It was a massive head turner back in its day and, even today in a strange land, it looks like it still gets it’s fair share of attention. I feel a mixture of pride and envy watching this as you are living a dream I never realised, the A9X was always my dream car as a kid but I would’ve taken an L34 any day. And for the awesome work youve done on the car. From an Precision Engineer you have made very happy. Ive built many of these cars over the years plus many others Im an engineering fan first and a Ford lover second, but loved every Bathurst Ive seen including the Great Peter Brock"s many races. Yeah it is gorgeous. When I first started researching to find out what had happened to it I had no idea Uwe had done such a great job. All I knew was there was a guy who took a Torana to Germany. Turns out he is a really nice guy and knows how to build a race car, unfortunately still having issues with his oil system.

Amazing build guys, as a torana owner I’m glad to see the modifications you have done not many of us would go in that direction. But I’m happy to see you having fun over there with a tori. Do me a favour though…swap the exhaust over from stainless to steel you will get a much better note out of her. Cheers hope she goes strong!
Yes Uwe and his friends have done a great job on this car, especially when you think how hard it is to find parts for an old Holden in Germany. Looking forward to seeing it back on the track soon, last I heard he is building 2 motors, pending parts availability.
Love your work and your great sense of humor! All the best from Australia. PS Owned a 308 SS hatchback in mandarin red when I was younger, fond memories.
If you've never owned a Torana are you even Australian? PS I am in Australia, Uwe is in Germany with his Torana, currently upgrading it and trying to raise some funds to race it when racing resumes. GO UWE!!
You'll notice he isn't going flat out through the corners, that is due to some oil surge issues and low oil pressure through the twisty bits. He has done a lot of work to try to resolve it but the engine is still in pieces. He is aiming for next summer to get it on the track.
05 !!!!!! That's almost sacrilege. Seriously though, a great testament to a great racing driver. May he long be remembered around the mountain. Those who know will know. ;)
At Bathurst 73, 74, 75 & 76 the SLR5000 for three of those years is tattooed on my memory, so good to see one is in Europe at another legendary circuit. Spa and Monza next? Excellent work ✅
Yeah good times for the Torana in those years, only thing that stopped them was a dodgy fuel gauge and some oiling issues, things that any Torana owner will agree were also apparent in the road cars. Uwe is rebuilding the engine now to try to fix some of the oiling issues. Hard part is finding parts half way around the world during a pandemic. But he'll get there, he's come this far.
Reamed bad mate blame abbot wot a dog to and gm and ford I don't think the people in the USA are aware of the PAIN there Chevrolet and Ford have done to us bash your mustang where it fits and your camaro bring us the hemi back
Yeah Abbott and Hockey decided we didn't need an automotive manufacturing industry anymore. At least now the cars coming in should be cheaper because we don't need the tariffs anymore. Right? What's that? You want to still charge us tariffs to protect an industry that doesn't exist so it doesn't affect resale value of cars we already payed tariffs on that we shouldn't have? Yeah, sounds fair.....
@@Gokizzmass No pretty sure you're thinking of something different to what I'm thinking of. But agreed, it was a combination of things, the removal of funding was just the final straw.
Great video, I love seeing the Torrie at the ring. There’s a lot of really nice engineering and thought that’s gone into the car. You’re living the dream mate! It must have been a lot of work convincing the human robots at the TÜV to allow the car on the road.
MCM fan by any chance? Chop chop? Not sure if he had to worry about TUV or not because race car. But he's used a lot of new parts on the car so that would help.
@@markmcgrath9098 Not sure, he hasn't mentioned it. The driving I've seen on the road is mostly between the workshop and the track, and I have no ideas are what the rules are about that. Only asked about MCM because they fixed a car up in Germany and everything had to be TUV certified, it was a bit of a running joke for a while.
Awesome car, awesome track & awesome story. It has been a dream of mine to take my Torana to the Nurburgring. Although on my shoestring racing budget a large lotto win is required lol.
Yeah Uwe hasn't been able to drive it in anger yet, has had oil delivery issues among other things. He is currently trying to get some sponsorship and generate some income so he can do some events.
Yes as you probably all ready know there are many different things you can do to help the 308 oiling issues. Personally I added a sump breather to reduce pressure, swapped the oil pump for a Mopar high pressure/standard volume set up & added a 3 litre accumulator. All of this I did myself reasonably cheaply, the ultimate is a Dick Savy dry sump set up.
@@BorkenGarage Simple, dry sump it. Then you stop farting around and simply drive the car. Wet sump is for the towcar!! Forums are for road cars and drag racing. Road race cars are entirely different
Great to have a Brocky Supercar 'The German' 05 showing the World how it is done with the TORANA - Very informative build and driving tactics too. A1 +++
Uwe put a pic up on Facebook the other day from a year ago where he is in the engine bay and says he is back there again. Rebuilding the motor again but he is trying to decide which way to go.

Uwe is amazing and this channel is brilliant ... My dream car would be an XB or XC GT Hardtop . Only two things stopping me ..Money and talent .. Thanks so much ...
Thanks so much for the kind words. I hope you've had a look at some of my playlists, there is some Ford stuff in there too. As for the things stopping you finding your dream car, I hope you find a way to overcome them. I used to think I would never own a GTR Torana but I found a way.
Yeah wouldn't that have been awesome? There is footage of Brock and Moffatt racing a Commodore at Monza, that is probably as close as you're going to get.

Good to see an aussie classic muscle car on the road in a foreign country, because they are becoming as rare as rocking horse shit here in australia and now worth a fortune, treat her with respect 💪🍻👍
We had a Holden Commodore that came after this in 1978/9, that was based on an Opel. Look up VB Commodore if you want to have a look, they came with a 5L V8, a few different straight 6's or a crappy 4 cylinder. They did quite well in touring cars and at Bathurst.

Wow I think there are a lot of people who would like to buy your work mate a beer. They are a very popular wheel, and still hard to find.
@@BorkenGarage I buy him one on a regular basis, those wheels are slowly becoming legendary lol
Great job guys. Car is beautiful. Thanks from Australia.
Thanks Mark. I know Uwe reads the comments so he will appreciate this.
Wow, great build!
Still miss my 1977 LX 4 door, 308, 4 speed with hydraulic clutch. :-)
I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they are glad they got rid of their Torana. Maybe a couple of people but they were not right in the head :D
GO UWE!!
Well done Sir enjoy
Thanks
Nice work mate,,,,love the car and the way you when about it .
Glad you enjoyed it
love the VBs on the roof! x
I reckon Uwe's love for Torana's came from drinking that stuff....
They came standard didn't they?? 🤣
Beautiful work
Thank you for the kind words.
WHAT A MACHINE. Mate you've done the Torrie proud, honorary Aussie citizenship is on its way.
He spends enough time in Aus (normally) so could probably get one anyway lol.
Great looking car, colour is brilliant. Brockie will be looking down from above and going you crazy German l love ya.
Awesome job , amazing machine
Thank you very much!
Good to see you are not scared to race that beauty...👍👍👍👍
You'll notice he isn't going flat out through the corners, that is due to some oil surge issues and low oil pressure through the twisty bits. He has done a lot of work to try to resolve it but the engine is still in pieces. He is aiming for next summer to get it on the track.
05 !!!!!! That's almost sacrilege. Seriously though, a great testament to a great racing driver. May he long be remembered around the mountain. Those who know will know. ;)
Pretty sure most Aussies will know. Plenty of people run with the 05 on their window, it is a sign of respect as much as anything else.
That is one beautiful ozzy icon love it...
yeah it is a great car. Can't wait to see some more video and pics of it on the track.
I had an LC Torana, occasionally raced at Ravenswood drags in WA back in the day.
Yeah they were pretty popular at the drags, still a few racing I think.
From when Australia had an automotive industry before GM and Ford reamed us.
@@BorkenGarage bullshit, it started under the button plan, bob hawke. look it up.
@@Gokizzmass No pretty sure you're thinking of something different to what I'm thinking of. But agreed, it was a combination of things, the removal of funding was just the final straw.
A cool vid on my all time fav car ... well done guys ....😎
Thanks @Pete, glad you liked it.
Potta's World nah, not really an mcm fan. I thought he must have done some roadworthy work as it’s been driven to the track on open roads.
Potta's World cool.
Awesome, love the new paint job too.
Yeah I believe it has the SLR 5000 paint scheme on it again now
Fantastic Story. A little piece of Australia lives in Europe!!! Congratulations.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nicely done ✅
Great attention to detail
I see you had a 928 in your workshop, would be great to get my car running 🏃♀️ properly
Cheers Frank👍
That is Boemann's Motorsport I believe. Some cool cars in the background when Uwe is filming in there.
I'm not sure what he's doing but he's got a few tips from the guys on the GMH-Torana forum. @Ringholden - some good tips here Uwe.
@@BorkenGarage Simple, dry sump it. Then you stop farting around and simply drive the car. Wet sump is for the towcar!!
Forums are for road cars and drag racing. Road race cars are entirely different
love how it just turns heads,
It certainly stands out at the Ring....
Bloody nice one as a ford fan its good to see all those ford parts on a nice Holden sticking it the Euo's
It is like helping out the enemy though.....
Great to have a Brocky Supercar 'The German' 05 showing the World how it is done with the TORANA - Very informative build and driving tactics too. A1 +++
Yeah once he sorts out his oil surge issue he will be able to really attack that European rubbish and show them what an Australian built beast can do.
Great job on the "Torrie", great video, hope you have some great times with an aussie legend, good on ya cobber.
Uwe put a pic up on Facebook the other day from a year ago where he is in the engine bay and says he is back there again. Rebuilding the motor again but he is trying to decide which way to go.
@@BorkenGarage Try an LS1 Chevy.........
@@colinl9018 Uwe is considering a 355 Chev I believe. Basically because it is cheaper and easier to get parts from the US than from Australia.
Wonderful ...Even though I am a Ford nut and love the XR to XC Falcons something crazy as well as the modern ones , I also have a very big soft spot for lots of Toranas ..The best older Holdens for sure and I love the HQ Kingswood too ..
Great story, thank you for posting....
No worries, thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback.
Well done. Imagine Brocky in that car and circuit.
Yeah wouldn't that have been awesome? There is footage of Brock and Moffatt racing a Commodore at Monza, that is probably as close as you're going to get.
Well done mate you got style big time
Thanks
Awesome 👍👍😁 I wish it was mine... 😁👍
Yeah it is a great car, Uwe is hoping to enter it in an event later this year but needs some $$ to make it happen. He is trying to raise funds by selling some Merch (rdbl.co/2SU6OjW) and also has a Patreon page coming soon. Check out his channel for details - th-cam.com/users/Ringholden
That is awesome !!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
An absolute beast, the HDT boys would be proud.
It will be an absolute weapon once the bugs are ironed out.
Make sure you check out the latest update if you haven't already.
Long live the German Torana, may it see all the race tracks of Europe.
Yeah maybe, should be at the Ring later this year
What a beautiful thing.
Yeah I'm getting excited, Uwe has it running again. He is going to take it on the Autobahn to run in the engine.
I got tingles watching that you guys are pioneer's..... awesome
Yeah not many crazy enough to do this, but love does strange things to people. And its a great idea. Don't be surprised to see Uwe driving a few more Aussie classics on the Ring at some point.
I want to see more videos of this car in Germany... I've watched the video about 5 times....love it
@@paultaylor7806 I'm sure there will be more in the future.
beautiful build! Harry Firth would love it
Yeah I wonder if he know about it? I know that Joe Felice is aware of it and pretty sure that he and Uwe have met. Its great to see these guys that were around back in the day still taking an interest.
Beautiful job
Yeah Uwe and Holger have put something awesome together here.
You've done an Aussie icon proud mate. Love your work
Thanks Daniel, Uwe has done a great job on the car too, it'll be back on the road soon, I'm excited.....
A big thanks to everyone who has supported this video by sharing on Facebook and liking and commenting.
This is my first video to pass 1000 views. It took 9 months but we got there.

From Uwe's Patreon page;
"My dream is to bring some historic Australian motorsport to Europe with my V8 Torana. Right now there are no Australian cars taking part in European historic motorsport and I would like to represent the Aussie racing spirit of the 70s. The Nürburgring 24H Classic at the "Green Hell " would be a perfect event to join. The Grid has about 180 cars and the event is broadcast live on TH-cam before the modern 24 Hours event. Now we have to organize sponsors, spare parts, drivers, hospitality. There are no Holden spare parts available in Europe so everything has to be imported from Down Under. All this is not possible for me without the help of my Patrons. Please consider becoming a patron to help me live my dreams."
First video to 2000 views!!!! Thanks everybody. Please keep sharing and don't forget to like and subsribe, and check out my other videos!
Potta's World Very nice sir. Glad to see some Aussie muscle still doing its thing. Well done.
That is beautiful mate. What a machine. You’re a lucky man to be able to own one of these.
Yeah Uwe bought it back in 2009 when they were cheap.
Beatiful work
Yeah he's almost ready to get it back on the track, should be good.
I hope those mods are to CAMS regs lol! Lovely car, great work by Uwe , very smart. The closest I will get to my Torana in the UK dream is my A9X on Forza.
Or Car Mechanic Simulator if you want a more hands on approach - th-cam.com/video/ezgsK4t6Xt8/w-d-xo.html
love it mate👌
Yeah it is a sweet ride.
15:15 you and Holga make great team👌
They did a great job on this car, that's for sure.
Wow wow wow, I’ve just put some shrimps on the bbq and chilled some VB’s to watch this
Haha hope the shrimp are fresh and the beers are cold so you can enjoy.
Good to see an aussie classic muscle car on the road in a foreign country, because they are becoming as rare as rocking horse shit here in australia and now worth a fortune, treat her with respect 💪🍻👍
Latest news from Uwe is that he has entered this years Old Timer Trophy. Still having some oiling issues but he'll get there, he is very persistent.
Looks like a close relative of the Opel Commodor GS mine had a straight 6 with 2 2 bbl carbs .
We had a Holden Commodore that came after this in 1978/9, that was based on an Opel. Look up VB Commodore if you want to have a look, they came with a 5L V8, a few different straight 6's or a crappy 4 cylinder. They did quite well in touring cars and at Bathurst.
3:02 Still has the Australian Battery. (Century)
20:54 Is that an LJ Torana in the parking lot, or is it an Escort.
22:26 A red 'Gemini' as well !!!
Yeah pretty sure that's not an LC/LJ Torana, could be an escort or Opel Kadett, which is probably what the 'Gemini' is too.
That looks like a nice car btw.....
Amazing - well done 🍻
All credit to Uwe and Holger Boemanns, and agreed, they have made a thing of beauty.
You bastard taking away a great local car!
Lol yeah that he bought when nobody wanted them.
very nice! is there a link to full specs? engine, gearbox etc?
Not that I know of. We will do an update video at some point which will probably include current specs.
Nice build!
Yep he just needs to get his motor sorted and he'll be out there tearing up the track.
It's about time somebody took some classic Aussie muscle to Germany. Really great video.
Couldn't agree more
