In 1979, Clive Anderson got a new job and a company car! But what about his one of a kind 1970 GT Falcon? It went under the house, and didn't move until 2023. Grays Auctions say it is a 1 of a kind car, Channel 7 says it is worth $500k. They say a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, so this auction will tell us exactly that. มุมมอง 2.6K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Rodney Bowen has built a replica of the 1976 Patterson Racing Brock Torana around what he believes to be the original 308 motor that a mate gave him. When he Googled the numbers, low and behold, it was a Brock engine!! Waddya know? Who woulda thunk it? If this story is true, then it is one of the greatest finds in Aussie history, but unfortunately it seems more like a pub story that has got out...

privateers against a paid team , brock is the best ,
Muppet never learned you need a light car, not a boat. :)
Brock, say no more, nothing more needs to be said.
It his most hollow victory
How so? You can't just say something like that and not tell us why. 🤣
It’s all there. He wasn’t six laps ahead til moffat broke. Brock had no competition he just drove away. Now 1980 was a great race, a true showing of the man’s skill. Brock came back from a crash and being a lap down to win.
@@ethanearl Yeah but in terms of pure dominance it could be argued its his greatest. I reckon nearly every win would have a reason it could be the greatest. Have had other guys say 72, some say 75 and some say 87. Its an interesting argument.
Pretty easy to dominate when there is no competition. Also what needs to be considered is that the Torana and falcon hardtops were in their last year, no one wanted to spend the money on them when they knew that they needed to build commodores and falcons for the next year. Same thing happened in 1984, another hollow victory.
@@ethanearl Its not like he crawled over the line though, or didn't have competitors. Bob Morris was sort of keeping up early on but his car couldn't handle the pace and obviously they didn't have the same budget. Then there was Moffat who had won 2 years earlier in a 1 -2 finish, which was really the impetus for the 78 and 79 Toranas, they threw everything at them to make sure they were as fast and bulletproof as they could be. There were others too but they couldn't stay with Brock at the speeds he was doing. I do understand your point, as much as it was a great win, it was probably also expected and maybe would have been a disappointment with any other result. Which win would you say is the absolute best one? I actually think some of his drives when he didn't win were better than some of his drives when he did. I'm thinking 85 and 86 when he was coming from behind and the cars failed, also enjoyed 91(I think) where he was storming through the pack and ended up crashing at the top of the mountain in a ball of flames.......
You mention Holden you better mention the name that went with it, Peter Brock
Back when racing was racing......no water cooled race suits here. Don't even bother watching the super cars now days......the Brock, Moffat, Johnston, and other greats of the era drove the super cars.....win on Sunday....Sales on Monday.
Yeah it all seems kinda pointless and detached from reality now. Back in the day you could see the cars you watched racing on your way to school the next day, I don't think I've ever seen a late model Camaro and the Mustangs don't really look the same. Certainly don't perform the same!
Bit disrespectful to Jimmy Richards wasn't it? Jum was every bit as good as Brock and did his part completely in this race, and the narrator even said "one man" at one point in the video referring to Brock. And no, wasn't Brock's greatest Bathurst victory, 1975 would rate higher in a genuinely private team rather than HDT, and 1987 when he finished 3rd with a home grown car against the world's best.
Yeah I thought it was a bit rough on Jim too but back then it was the main driver and then the co-driver and most of the accolades went to the main guy. You have to remember too he was a relatively unknown young bloke from New Zealand at the time. I have heard Brocky say that he loved having Jim as a team mate cause he knew he would get the car back how he gave it to him and in as good or a better position so he could relax in between stints. Some people think 1972 was Brock's best win against all odds in the little Torana, but that's why I asked the question, cause its not a cut and dry answer.
You got to realise Ford pulled out of racing in Australia at the end of 1973. Most drivers were part time amatuers with other jobs on a shoe string budget and built their race cars in their sheds with mostly used parts in their spare time. Just finishing the Bathurst race was a major accomplishment let alone winning the race against a fully funded factory backed competition with the latest and greatest parts, staff and financial backing not to mention better experienced drivers.
Yeah absolutely. I did this one as a follow up to some Torana Highlights and thought it might be interesting to do a Ford Lowlights package which is pretty much what this is. It really does highlight the lack of support from Ford during this period though, the things the guys had to deal with that could/should have been fixed so they could be competitive. I think it gives a bit of an insight into Moffat's push for better safety in the sport too. Very interesting some of the things he was saying about putting big wide tyres on factory spec cars and driving them at twice the speed they are designed for and expecting them to last 1000 k's. And of course a lot of them didn't, and it wasn't just the Fords. It was one of the things that made that era even more interesting. Reliability is boring.
Looked Ausome as a road car, especialy with stainless steel drop tank!

This was the second Monaro to win The HK 327 was the first
I know this truck and the family from Sunshine. Good old days.
no it's gmh greatest car ever built
Any truth to the rumours at the time that the Toranas were running stroker cranks to give them around 335c.i.?
A car is worth what someone is willing to pay, and emotions play a large part as a car can take us back to our youth. I owned a 1968 Ford Falcon and it really was a favourite of mine for sentimental reasons, so simple and i could cimb into the engine bay when i was working on it. Even though it really was a piece of crap i would gladly pay that money if i were rich, memories and taking me back to my youth would be worth that and more. Cheers,
Much prefer this to the current crop of same looking cars, Mustang vs Camaro, Who gives a flying fuck?
Yeah totally agree Barry, its just not the same anymore. Even struggle to get interested in Bathurst lately which is sad.....
Oz muscle cars Right On !!
Does this still work in 2024?
Yep
Ye I found the Vagos Buccenear
Johnson' Ford pooed its pants big time!!!
Those Fords looked great, but were lumbering giant with poor brakes and weight issues...Holden were an amazing team...
I nearly bought a used SS Torana hatchback 3300 from a Melbourne car yard in 1987. It was $7000. I thought it was too expensive. 🤦
This is the most dominant win in the history of Australian motorsport full stop. The orchestrated 1-2 that ford had in 1977 was a farce in comparison with Bond slowing down for moffat to cross the line first and accepting a 2nd place when he deserved the win.
A9X best ever looking aussie V8 and i’m a ford fan
I was shown by my engine builder he got Yella Terra to make up a set of roller rockers with a smaller hole in them making the oil feed to the heads more restrictive this stops the oil pump sucking the sump dry during high rpm when racing around the track
give me a choice between a Lamborghini and 05 I would take 05 💪 just before I die when I can hear one last noise I hope it's the roar of this great muscle car . man I would die happy 😁💪🙏✝️
That’s Incredibly Awesome! Have A Great Weekend! 🤩❤️✨
This car is amazing! But don't let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry's and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec system exhaust
DANGER TO MANIFOLD!!!

Magnificent sounding 350...wow! I was a wide eyed 8yr old when the 350 made it's debut at Sandown, and Spencer Martin somehow managed to avoid a catastrophe at the end of the main straight. The first GTHO looked a tad quicker, and with half reasonable disc brakes on the front. Unlike Holden's solid, smaller disc. Bathurst '69 was a classic, and kept me glued to the screen all race. Wily Harry's HDT won, and the rest is history. Motor racing back then was exciting, unlike the road train, compulsory pit stops, manufactured 'product' that masquerades as racing these days. Thanks for the upload 😁👍 P.S. of course the above is only my opinion.
We were standing on top of our transporter to watch these runs - lol got covered in smoke - also on top of the transporter was a very young Ben Bray - about 2.22 is the best image
Runs nice and quiet for an old Astra. You really got a bargain on this one. I get the feeling that it will clean up nicely and will make a great 'learner' car.
I hope so, looking good so far.
