Do you think the iPhone 16 Pro will replace mirrorless cameras for most consumers? Will the clunky interfaces of cameras finally meet their match? Are camera makers falling behind? Let’s look at the pros and cons. There are cons to using just your phone!
The biggest problem with the iPhone (I have pre ordered the 16 Pro) is they don’t have a 48MP camera. Look at Tony Northrups video on this. Apple are taking a 12MP image, inserting 4 “fake” pixels around every real one to boost the pixel count, and then calling it 48MP (12 x 4 = 48). Tony takes an 8MP shot with a “real” camera and a 48MP shot with an iPhone 15 Pro Max and zooms in on some text. The 8MP photo has far and away clearer text than a 48MP photo from on iPhone. Sadly until manufacturers really innovate and stop using computer trickery to lie to us, they won’t replace real cameras as much as I’d love them to!
Lots of reasons for both. But number one on my phone is I don't have to ship it 1000 miles away for a sensor cleaning. Then again it doesn't have interchangeable batteries and memory.
I do not think it will replace the “camera experience” because at some point you want to stay away of the phone and enjoy that time. But it should challenge camera companies to make product that accessible, easy to use, compact, build quality and a accesible price. Because despite the limitations the iphone can do what i need for less price, compare to camera with lenses, i think it becomes a suitable and good option. As for me, I use both but i prefer the camera. I use the phone to help me with composition.
I agree. I have heard of quite a few TH-camrs lately filming their videos with their phone. Perhaps the iPhone has more uses for video than photography?
I don’t think it’ll replace mirrorless or DSLR at least from a professional standpoint. However if anyone wants to get into photography (I’m like you a hobbyist/ amateur) smartphones gives you a good starting block to learn some of the basics without having to worry about shooting in aperture, program or manual… you have just enough control without getting lost if you want too. I have significantly less control because I’m using an SE which is an iPhone 8 with a better chip. I also shoot film (Kodak H35N and Nikon FM) but have an old DSLR Nikon D3100. With the controls that are given and editing tools that are built into the phone you can learn a lot if you want too then at some point get a camera and glass for the photography your into. I plan to wait till at least the iPhone 18 before I upgrade.
There have been professional films, commercial projects, educational, and vocational content produced using iPhones and iPads. Magazines and news articles accompanied by photos also made with iPhones and iPads. As mentioned in this video, Apple has produced compelling videos, their own commercials, and billboard advertisements with content created via iPhones… Realistically, iPhones probably could handle 80% of what most people believe they need traditional cameras to accomplish. It is just hard to let go of conventional methods of doing things… 🤔
I mean for every day use sure. I was using my old Huwaei P20 Pro as my every day camera, so I think this was the case even 5 years ago for 95%. Now as far as the experience no, it wont.
@@JackTheBlack1585 I replaced a car with a bicycle for nearly three years, was in the best shape of my life, never needed a gym membership, and save thousands not buying petrol, maintenance, and insurance. it really elevated my lifestyle as well as my perspective. Was also able to make it clear across town faster than any automobile mainly due to traffic… The benefits were immeasurable, though the bike did cost over $3K… 🤔
@@JackieDElia Yes and thx your video is fantastic !Just every year is the same question "Iphone can replace the mirrorless camera" and for that i wrote NO! ...? :D well i did some short videos with pocket 3 on my channel and i know allready better than Iphone 16 pro ,because that pixel is not a real pixel on Iphone .There is some good review test out there and they show Iphone 15 pro ex about 8-10mp mirrorless camera quality just .
Thanks for sharing that. For me the iPhone cannot replace my mirrorless camera or even my DJI Osmo pocket 3. But I do wonder with the introduction of the new camera control on the iPhone - will more and more choose to just use their phone? I’m keeping my cameras.

Awesome video, keep rocking
Thanks, will do!
Once upon a time I thought it could but after I realise a camera is way better. Good to have both though.

I watched that video. A lot of computational photography with the iPhone.

I agree. Same here.
Where I mainly take photos I cannot bring a fancy camera to. Most people do that, unless your a TH-camr or hobbyist

Good points. That is a great idea for beginners to start with their phone.

Can a bike replace a car ?
I guess it depends on how far you wanna go. 😀
