Every TH-camrs should stop making this title
Got you curious enough to click tho…
@@HarrisonTong no no... I'm just open TH-cam and the first video has this title that use every TH-camrs.. it's annoying..😒
You're still here and making multiple comments, lol @@lb_projekt
@@lb_projekt i just dont like it because the price goes up lmao like dang lemme buy one first
It’s a clone from other youtubers. What do you expect?
I'm never sure why people bring up the X100 series cameras in the context of the RX100 series or the Canon G7X. The X100 series cameras are significantly larger and heavier than these sub compacts. It's just in a different category, in my mind. All that said, absolutely great video!!!
Equally a good option! However there kind of getting the “TikTok treatment” atm like the X100V did so harder to get good deals imo
Yeah totally. I think there just aren't many compelling alternatives in the RX100 size/sensor, so that's the next best thing. Ricoh GR is another of course.
As someone who has owned almost every RX100 model, and now has an X100F and an X100vi on pre-order?
Sure, the RX100 is smaller, lighter, and more pocketable, and offers fair image quality. However, the X100 series offers noticeable improvements to image quality, is a significantly more fun camera to use, is a significantly better looking camera to the point of almost being a fashion accessory, and is still very carryable as a daily camera - mine never leaves my neckstrap. Sure, it's not truly "pocketable" - but it doesn't need to be, and I'm willing to deal with that for the advantages it brings.
@@tommynguyen8620 agree with all this
I have a full frame Sony A7 but I use my RX100 v and vii for all my vacation photos. The v is excellent but I broke down and bought the vii for the 200mm equivalent reach. It is very versatile and has the high end Sony sensor from their high end full frame, but having said that, I think the v has a better result in many situations. They are small enough to take both with me and use the same batteries. For an amateur they cost a lot but so does everything one needs/wants for full frame cameras too. At some point I’ll sell my full frame gear, just don’t feel like hauling it around anymore.
what about getting a7c line up? full frame and yet somewhat compact? i am exactly on the same boat.
@@EnnTomi1 I think my keen photography days are behind me. The RX100 vii will likely be my last camera.
As a full frame Nikon z8 shooter, I love my RX100 for travelling. I own the RX100va and the RX100m7. Sometimes I only take the m7, sometimes I take the va or both, depends on the occasion.
I was in Brazil recently with my m7. Even though I made many pictures with my iphone at a conference, I used preferably the m7 at concerts, street and touristic places 😊
Exactly what I do, full frame most of the time and rx100 when I don’t have my camera on me
I wanted to get into concert photography and was debating between the RX100VA vs. the MkVII. I used to own the VA version, but I tried renting out the MkVII for a concert and was blown away by how good the low light still was! Even at 200mm, f4.5, the shots were pretty good, given the sensor size.
That’s sweet to hear! That extra bit of range would be fun I’m sure I just can’t bring myself to live with the trade offs
I actually just sold my RX100 ii on ebay, I was a little shocked that it went for $400 but that says a lot about how awesome and wanted this little camera is. BUT as awesome as this camera is, I honestly prefer my Lumix LX7 over it which is why I sold my Sony. Compared to my LX7, the only thing I miss about the Sony is the pocketability
Looks pretty similar! Why do you prefer the LX7?
I'm keeping my lx5
LX10 is a much better upgrade. i pass the LX7 to my gf and got a used RX100 ii instead.
Most people use their phones to take pictures now, so companies have stopped making many pocket cameras. There are still some people who want pocket cameras, but there aren't enough of them available. Because of this, the price of used pocket cameras is going up.
Me with Lumix LX 10
Love my RX100, it fits on my belt and it doesn’t look like a “big” camera, obviously it’s not and people ignore it not knowing it has big camera performance BUT nothing feels as nice as larger format cameras.
i had these rx100 m3 way back 2018, sold and switch to fuji system , and recently got the zv1 same feeling as rx100 m3
It really is a specialized niche for a camera that's pocketable and has no viewfinder and has to compete with phones, which are getting better all the time. And there you also have the Ricoh GR, which is slimmer and lighter weight and has a bigger sensor.
Yeah I’d love to try a GR but not that invested to spend GR kinda money
M7 has viewfinder tho
It does have a viewfinder that folds into the body when not in use.
I've had the RX100V ("V" is Roman Numeral "Five") since 2017, have taken thousands of photos and videos with it, and it's the camera i always have with me. Thanks for your review!
Thanks for watching :)
It's just soooooo old. People just were hating on Leica keeping MFT for their new D Lux 8, and this has 1 Inch... With Sony's possibilites, I'd hope they went for APS-C (as Sony won't start with MFT now) in a new model to truly go for Ricoh GRs.
The same people bitc..h about M43 and then they buy fullframe with low quality lenses, saying it's no fun to shoot :D
This is my favorite iteration of the rx100!! I just wish it had either a touchscreen or joystick haha. But yes most of my pics from my Tokyo trip last year were on this camera. No regrets.
I have got RX100VI but I think RX100V or RX100VA would be better due to its aperture. I would probably sacrifice the longer zoom... But I have one comment regarding the dynamic range. It really is very poor when compared to APS-C or even FF and you have to work really hard with DRO or HDR to solve high-contrast situations. Managing dynamic range in each complicated lighting situation is crucial skill if you have RX100...
I’ve found it fine for most situations but if it’s a very high dynamic scene blending would probably be the best way around it. Thanks for watching!
Yes, dynamic range depends on sensor size.
Another RX1000 fan. Great! I got hooked on with the ZV1 and now have an RX 100VII as side, I guess the V is like a mix between the two.
I’m still using my RX100 mkII simply because: hot shoe. I use it a LOT with OCF and am really bummed the newer gen RX100 omitted the mmi hot shoe. If the hot shoe returns to the RX100 series, I’ll finally upgrade.
What do you use the hotshoe for so much?
Don't hold your breath. Chances are, even built in mini flash does not get used that much. Sony put in on just in case. I owned several models, never used them in situations where flash was required.
The Ricoh GRiii & iiiX are just as small. I was considering an rx100 but my Ricoh is so small i could not justify it. Even though there is no zoom range
Yeah love to try a Ricoh but there is significantly less on the used market and they are all owned by photographers that know what’s up
GRIII is far more expensive.
Does it have an built in intervalometer, or any sort of time lapse feature?
I choose The Step Brother of rx100 - zv1:)
The same camera, but with flip screen and really nice video features
Would absolutely love to see how you use this in different environments!! 😍
Certainly it's a great pocket camer. I'm a sony a7iii shooter, i use my old Nikon P330 for daily and street photography. Sony rx100 will my my next pocket camera for sure
Good to hear! It’s a good option
I have this camera as my daily carry. Gave me really good results in a concert that I recently went to.
Thanks but Ive rented and shot with several of these pocket cameras and even owned a few, I still see zero reason to pay the money they want for them over using my iPhone 15 pro max. I can run different apps that simulate anything from a disposable camera and a Polaroid up to classic rangefinder and MF cameras. They even have an app now that looks like the top of a Fuji camera with all the mode dials giving you full manual control. It also has all the Fuji film simulations like Classic Chrome, Classic Neg etc...and you can make your own recipes in the app. I also get a 13mm-120mm focal range and I can share anything I want right from my phone. On top of that, I can shoot 4k 60P video in ProRes with excellent IBIS. I can also connect my phone directly to any number of portable printers I have and then shoot and print photos anywhere and give them to people. Smartphones are just far more versatile and you already have one in your pocket.
Same reason I stopped carrying my RX100 and LX7. I have the phone with me anyway, so why carry 2 cameras?
What is the app with the fuji film simulations?

I went with the mark 7 for a b cam to my a7s iii and got the g7x mark ii for photos. All of them are capable and I have fun shooting with all my cameras :)
You find the colours match good?
@@HarrisonTong Yes, I set them both to vivid picture profile, I tweaked the settings a bit from there and also put my a7s iii in 8 bit since the rx100 vii can’t do 10 bit
I had this camera & returned it after 1 week. It’s slow to power-on and zoom/focus. You’ll miss the shot unless the camera is already zoomed out. It’s not like having a small mirrorless Sony A7CR with a prime lens, which gets going instantaneously.
This is true but there is a big size and cost difference. A7C series is pretty awesome and I might get one someday.
@@tappersreviews4677 Yes, there are always trade-offs. However you can probably get the A7C 1st edition for around the same price or less than this one, and the 40 mm f/2.5 (which I have) for around $400. Still very portable combo.
There is a fast option for the zoom in the settings menu, personally never ran into a situation where I missed a shot because of bootup
Great review!!! Computational phone photography, uh, it just keeps getting worse; trying to do more.
Great video, I have the vii and it is my go everywhere camera! Its limitations are far outweighed by its advantages!
Thank you! Totally agree!
I was going to buy this camera when I realised sony also made phones! Their xperia devices are pretty impressive and I am planning to buy the 5 VI when it comes out.
I have heard good things about them but honestly have the same pitfalls of other camera manufacturers with smaller sensors and less fun to use due to lack of dials
@@HarrisonTong Yeah I am only going to get it if the main camera has at least good detail and dynamic range compared to the rx100 vii
As intrigued as I am with the RX100, I realistically only see my pocket / belt access camera as a pocket cleanser camera; and so far, nothing within my preferences beats the OG Powershot G9 in that role
Newer RX100s really start to challenge or even out-do my primary A6300 though 😂😭
A6300 was my first camera, I’d say RX100 isn’t in the same league
this video made me decide to take my rx100 on holiday with me next week, ill see how it compares to my Canon M50
" . . . in THEIR pockets as an everyday camera," not "in THERE pockets as THERE every day camera."
It does look nice. I already like my Lumix LX100M2 tho.
Yeah I’ve heard people like them but I’ve never tried
I’m an rx100 fan. I currently own a III and VII. A shame Sony has seemingly stopped developing new models. I’ll be bringing my VII and Fuji X100 VI on vacation soon. I can easily fit both in a fanny pack.
There was a rumour semi recently that a next gen one might be coming out, but realistically is all ZV line stuff that Sony is pushing
Model VII pretty much maxed out what can be packed inside this size box with current technology for use as a photo camera. Other then cosmetic changes, what more would you expect from model VIII?
a contender with this camera to be strongly considered is the Canon G7x mark iii. Same censor, same megapixel, and cheaper.
Ive got an rx100 vii which while i love it i dont use it much. I’m probably just spoilt for options as out and about I usually grab my g9ii with a 14-140 lens as I just love editing 10bit footage over the 8bit on rx100 cameras. I did get a waterproof housing for the rx100 which works great. It’s amazing having a 200mm lens underwater or for filming surfing. Although I don’t do it often……actually I’m gonna get my arse of the couch and head down the beach with it and a wetty. (Sunny coast qld) Cheers for the video man
How do you find the waterhousing and which one do you use? I have been adding and removing one from my cart for months now but haven’t pulled the trigger yet
@@HarrisonTong I use the salted line sea frogs case. I quite like it as it has buttons for all controls including zoom and I can see through the viewfinder. (im responding from my other channel)
I am a camera newbie and have been researching best camera for photos for vacation. I know nothing about color grading (don’t have the time to learn right now) and would love a compact camera with gorgeous photos right out of the camera. Every brand I look at has so many trade offs. I’m surprised the Sony RX100 VII only has a flip up screen vs. a screen that flips out. 😔
For me side flip out screens aren’t as good for photography but each to there own
it tilts out so you can take vertical photos either pointing straight up or down, and for selfies you can flip it the other way round but you just can't do 90 degree shots that's all
I noticed that you have Peak Design anchor links on your camera -do you use a Leash with it? I still have not found a really good way to carry my RX100 V(a) . I did put Sony's optional grip on it ,though and that was a game changer for the ergonomics.
Ricoh GR3(x) is miles better for photography. RX100 is bulkier. Although it shoots well, I had issues with more than one software bugs, including when my M3 got bricked by a faulty firmware update. Sony just doesn't make user-friendly software (and I don't see it discussed enough, tbh). It makes crap software that bricks your products and slows down older products just past warranty expiration. They aim to have you buy new product as often as possible. I can't support this greed.
Great viddy. I have the iv and really enjoy it. Even take it to weddings sometimes. Fun cam.
Thank you ! Agreed!
Why you only mention M IV and under and not M VI or the last M VII (with more Zoom)? The M V was the last with ND Filter. I have a ZV-1 a Vlog Variante of the RX100 Series, technically sitting between M V and M VII . The picture quality is good, Video Quality also. But having no built in flash is a let down.
👍This is “the” ski camera - but iPhone 14/15 now creeping into its space. Popped mine in a neoprene sleeve for extra padding, weatherproof and insulation.
Will definitely have to source something like that for my next ski trip!
Hummm spec-wise mark 5 sounds really similar to the ZV1 🤔
ZV1 was kind of the spiritual successor to this in video focused form
8:18 Unfortunately the RX100v can no longer beat the modern smartphones.. Except when you use flash
Not in my experience, RAWs edit better and the larger sensor gives you that slight edge in bokeh
But how did you get the peak anchor on it??
I liked mine until it stopped working.
This is TH-cam a video platform. How does it do in video?
What does it have that high-end 3-camera mobile phones don’t have?
You would have something that many don't. It is an exclusivity thing. Like having a
$6000 bicycle for those Sunday morning coffee shop tours.
I had the 100V, it had terrible image quality at 70mm, I got rid of it, a real disappointment, over hyped camera imo.
Swipe up if you live in NorCal for a x100vi trade for a rx100. The x100vi does beautiful shots BUT DAMN ITS BIGGER THAN I THOUGHT.
Unless you move to Australia that’s not a possibility 😆
Great overview, brilliant summary. My wallet does not thank you however! ;)
I dont like pocketable cameras because when i have a camera on me it will never be in my pocket. 😂
Wrong a photographer should carry the camera that they happy with, regardless of brand, model etc.
What do you think this camera is 🤪
@@HarrisonTong the point is you state that every photographer should carry this camera, I'm just stating that you are wrong to say that, I carry the equipment that I am happy with and happy using, but if you want to donate your camera, I would try it, but not necessarily carry it, I might even bin it, perhaps you should have rephrased to something like "the camera that you would always carry", all photographers have different pov's on equipment, your statement indicates that unless they follow your rules, they will never be successful, bit elitist of you. Sit and think about what you are going to say before you say it. But that's just my pov. Maybe different to yours, but equally valid.
@@user-qj7et4wv3q sorry next time I’ll say “This is the camera you should always carry with you, if you like it, if you can afford it, if it suits your lifestyle, if you have the muscle capability to lift it, if you have enough vision to see the screen” wouldn’t want to be too elitist and assume everything right!!!!
@@HarrisonTong ah your getting the picture (pun intended).
@@HarrisonTong😂
You mentioned RX100 m VII but actually do you think that its bigger dynamic range can be a disadvantage? Do you recommend RX100 m VII anyway? Can you put ND filter on RX100 VII
Btw, great video 😊
More dynamic range is always better, there are ways to get filters on the cameras but there a bit of a faff because the lenses retract and don’t have threads
It is so cute.
Too many haters. Keep doing your thing bro. Iv learned a lot on this vid
Cheers man
Io ho la versione 6 e confermo tutto! Credo che questa fotocamera sia una delle migliori per la Street Photo !!!

Hey, awesome video. How did you do that ring transition between photos? Is it a stock transition from a specific program or a template that can be applied?
Plugin from MotionVFX those ones are from the mTransition Film Roll pack :))
The photos you showed with the little Sony are really good-looking, but I'd like to see a head-to-head comparison with a modern iPhone in a variety of conditions. Maybe do that when the 16 Pro is out at the end of September?
If I upgrade this year I’ll definitely keep that in mind! Thanks for watching
I think everyone should have this expensive of a camera with them all the time. Many however would need to spend all that money on their main camera. Or rent.
When anyone says a pocketable camera, my mind goes straight to Ricoh GR. Sorry bro
I bought RX 10. It can shoot better photos, but carrying it is painful.
You’ve blown up the internet!
It’s doing well that’s for sure!
How’d you get the peak design connectors to fit on your rx100 ? I emailed
Peak design and the rep told me to buy metal links or something to make them attach. While before I thought they made smaller connectors that fit through if you emailed them about the problem.
With a lot is swearing and dedication, it’s doable just difficult to slide them through
@@HarrisonTong Got it ! Thank you ✨
I used dental floss to pull them through the grommets.
You cooked with this video, great job
Thank you 🙌🏻
Great covert camera. Good glass.
Sure is
what do you think about the ZV1 ? similar portability, but much newer processors etc... the flip out LCD makes it bigger, but only marginal... would love to know your thought?
Image quality for photos will be about the same but the RX100 has an EVF. I would go for a ZV1 if video is important to you
love the color grading in your photos :) do you use some specific presets or do you color grade them by yourself? :) great content btw :) P.S. i have used Lumix LX15 (with Leica lens 24-70 f1.4-2.8), but it always had that digital oversharpen look
All edited myself in Lightroom and Photoshop, I have some videos where I go over editing on my channel :)
I prefer the Rioch Gr111
So many things to have.
Gotta buy all the gear 🤪🤪
My version one has developed a fault, it switches on by itself, I turn it off and after about a minute come on again, worse when it’s in my pocket, bag etc. have taken battery out and reinserted whilst on, re initialised it but nothing fixes it. So now I take the battery out when not in use, any ideas to fix it please?
Really not sure, probably had some liquid ingress
@@HarrisonTong no, Bag and case dry as a bone. If you google it you will find its not uncommon with all versions and many claim to have this problem but could not find any solutions. Someone pointed to the auto battery saving setting, on my version there is no switch off, only turn on just four settings, 1 to 30 minutes. The camera was bought new when it came out so assume old age, regarding an internal problem.
Yup got one in the mk iv
How do you enjoy it?
I’m in the market for a small camera. The price of a used RX100 m5 is similar to that of a ZV1 (original version) - how do they compare do you think?
If video is important to you then go ZV1, otherwise RX100M5 due to the EVF. Both would have mostly the same image quality in photo
Many thanks.
I had difficulty putting the PD Anchors inside this camera small landyard hole. How did you do it?
Lots of patience and frustration, it’s possible. If your struggling maybe use like a paper clip or something but I didn’t have to do that

I bought a LX10/15 for that reason
Always cool to see people using different solutions!

Worthless hype cameras. Just use your phone if you dont want to drag a camera around
I never liked the usability of Sony cameras. It’s just not user friendly for me compared to other manufacturers like Fuji or Nikon.
I’ve always found that criticism blown out of proportion, what for you makes them hard to use?
@@HarrisonTong I had the a6000 and thought it took good pictures I didn’t enjoy the experience. The UI is off for me. Maybe it has changed.
@@HarrisonTong In my case it's menu options with 100 of options, in the case of this camera, no dials, weird use of the ring for changing settings which can unintentionally change when you don't want them, and lack of image tuning options. Also quick menu is within the menu? there's no button or anything for favorites directly?
How did you get the peak design loops into your RX100? I have one but the lugs on it are too narrow for the peak deign loops to pass through!
Lots of time and effort, it’s possible just extremely hard
Use fishing line or dental floss and just pull through. Tales some effort but works.
No. They should have a Ricoh GRIII
Where is that ND filter function?

yeah, what happened to great small cameras like this? they all turned bigger and expensive

Sh*t image quality unless on sunny days. Get a Ricoh GR3 instead - no comparison at all
I’ve had good experiences in less than ideal lighting situations like concerts. GR is a sweet bit of kit and APSC is nice but the zoom gives you flexibility
@@alexphototherapy I think I saw this video. Actually the man says that the photo quality is identical but when I see the photo comparison it is obvious to me that this is not the case and that the Ricoh images are much better.
My conclusion: we all have different eyes and different requirements. Personally I used an RX100 (maybe the II or III) in the past and I find that my GR III takes significantly better photos today, and I don't care about the zoom!
No comparison indeed. GR is way more expensive and doesn't have zoom.
@@nickthaskater I think that the GR are no more expensive than the last RX1OO.
The camera that should be in your pocket is a smartphone. The only time I would consider a compact camera over a smartphone is if it had a good extended zoom range and useful features.
To each there own, I find I get better results from a compact
Nah, zoom options are lacking, DoF is lacking, most of the time quality is lacking.. I much prefer having a camera on me and just have the phone as a backup
@@alex952 The point I was making is that I am always going to be carrying my smartphone with me, but would only carry a compact camera if i was expecting to take photos with it such as at a concert. ew iphones??? Theres way better phones out there for photography.
There implementation of ProRAW means you get the benefits of computational photography while retaining raw flexibility. Other brands may have more fun lenses but I don’t think anyone else has caught up in this regard
I can't speak to the Proraw format and how flexible it is in post ( never used it), but most cell phone shooters are point and shoot no fuss people who aren't interested in a lot of heavy handed editing in post, (only light touch ups in phone), but it seems you are saying you still get all the benefits of computational photography with the iPhone, (nice).
Go Pixel for the AI smarts or Samsung for that crazy zoom lens, and yes consider the iPhone also for always being right there and for hacing a beast of a camera!
Apple is supreme for video due to its RAW format, but there are Androids with an edge in terms of still shooting, with bigger sensors and sometimes better computational photography and more natural processing (depending on the mode... in auto mode, Chinese Androids usually have horrible beautification algorithms applied)
iPhones are awesome for photography.
