I know that this would be going more smoothly for other teachers if they were as tech savvy as you, but unfortunately that is not the case. So many children are going to be left behind with the learning settings. Your district is blessed to have you.
Yes, I have about half of my students who do not have internet or horrible internet. We are trying to come up with a solution if we do have to do back to virtual, but they are behind compared to those who did. I actually taught through TH-cam so that way when they did have internet they could watch the lesson.
I just love how the tables have turned , because I remember the school had asked you to stop vloggin at class and now teaching is basically vlogging and all the experience you gor from this channel is very useful now❤️
We started back in August face to face but blended. I have kids in quarantine etc. Thank you so much for all you do! Your positivity and lessons have helped so much! I am not hugely techy but I am proud of how much I have learned!! I make a daily board for my kids, can do slides sooo much better, and so on. You've got this!!
You are an amazing teacher. I'm in awe. I've been teaching 25 years and I cannot get over what you do. I'm so lost with virtual teaching, your level of thoughtfulness, generosity for doing these videos, thank you!
Bravo to you Michelle for being recognized on the “Today Show” I’ve gleaned a lot of teacher knowledge & tips from your vlogs and I want to say “thank you!”
One of my 6th grade teachers did the “following directions” assignment as well. I knew about the assignment somehow so I luckily followed the directions and sat there while everyone was doing things like stomping their feet, singing “Old MacDonald,” drawing a smiley face on the chalkboard (man, don’t we all sort of miss chalkboards? Haha), among other crazy things. This was 2001-2002 and one of my favorite years of school. I had two fantastic teachers.
I am a 34 year veteran. I like you, would have never ever thought I'd be teaching virtually. I just finished my third week. I have been teaching M-Th from home, Friday we do PD and plan from home. I do extensive planning and work on my Google Classroom for hours. I have a wonderful team and very supportive administrators. However it has been extremely hard. I am not there in person to help the kids login to programs or help them with assignments. I am however doing my very best which is all I can do. I do want to go back to the classroom but I do worry about my health. I have been following you since you started your channel. I am so glad for all the videos you have done for virtual teaching. You are an amazing teacher!
This pooped up today after your daily vlogmas video. I was a kindergarten teacher for most of my 37 year career. I can't imagine virtual learning with the littles, especially the first day of school, but loved seeing what you were doing with your older elementary students. Looks as though along with everything else that was going on you must have managed to get married since the start of COVID19! Wow!
I am so impressed with your attitude and willingness to accept change. We starting our 4th week on Monday and it is still a mess. I have been teaching for over 30 years and I have never worked so hard. Thank you for making me feel better about technology. You can't imagine how your tutorials have helped me.
I’ve been looking for a doc camera while I teach virtually this year. The old ELMO from my school is just too outdated and it is way too bulky on my desk at home anyway. When I saw the foldable doc cam on your desk , I immediately went to your links and prayed you had it listed and you did! I can’t believe it’s still $84 on Amazon, like you mentioned. You’re right, companies are price gouging right now and a doc cam was out of my price range. I bought this one immediately for two reasons: 1. I trust your judgement. You have always had impeccable advice and 2. once this video gets out there and everyone sees it, that camera is going to disappear, just like so many other products you recommend. So, once again, thank you. I’ve been rewatching some of your old vlogs from your old school and the growth you’ve made has been incredible. Your level of maturity is impressive for someone so young and your honesty is refreshing. I’m glad you don’t spend lots of time talking about your decor and fashion (though you do always dress well). For someone who has been teaching for a long time, I’ve learned one indisputable fact: you will never ever reach a point in your career when you know it all. I am still learning and I’m so glad I have you as one of my mentors. Keep those videos coming and keep being yourself!
Can vouch for the document camera video on the phone thing. I have a Hue document camera that works really well for me so far. Have a great year, everyone!
@@Delraydharma I work from home in virtual school and I really was desperate to find a good, reasonably priced doc camera for my class. It's a little fragile, the arm is plastic, just have to treat it gently. Took me a while to figure out how to adjust it so that I could see the display the right side up. I tried it out by entering into my google meet on my personal laptop with my school laptop. It worked so easily, just had to change the settings to use the doc cam instead of the computer camera. The display is good and clear. There is no light on the doc cam so you have to have some lighting nearby, like a lamp. I can't install the extensions and apps that come with it on my school google account because of firewalls. That means I can't use the fancier features of the doc cam. It's ok, though. I bought it to have a basic doc cam for school and google meets with students, which means I will mostly use it with my school Google account, so I'm happy. Again, took me a while of playing around before I could figure out how to fold it up again, but it takes up so little space, I don't mind. Much better than trying to get my old bulky ELMO from school to work on my desk. Think about what you want to use the doc cam for and the restrictions you might have trying to use it with a school account. I think, for the price, this was a great deal and I will make very good use of it. Thanks Michelle!
Thank you Michelle! We're doing the hybrid model. I'm hoping for the best this week. We will see. I'm glad you had a good start to your school year. Again, you are amazing and have awesome ideas! Looking forward to your next video! And to everyone else out there, have a great school year!
I just want to thank you for sharing all of your expertise. I am an "old school" paper copy girl getting into the new growth mindset that I can get the hang of technology and your videos are a godsend to me. You have helped me so much and I can't thank you enough!!!
Ms. Ferré, greetings from Bolivia, the very heart of South America. I watched your videos about Teaching Ed and they are helping me a lot!! Thank you!!!
I love your videos!!! I just saw a hack that will help you so you don't have to delete the text boxes every time you make a new slide. You go to layout and select blank. Your videos are so cool. I have used a lot of your tech videos to help me in google slides. You're awesome!!
Also feel like focusing on what's AWESOME and going well is SO important every year, but particularly this year! It aids our children in learning to be resilient, to be thankful, and to embrace positivity. Even though we all have obstacles to overcome each day, we also have things & people in our lives who are worthy of our gratitude!
I just found your videos about a month ago, and I just want to say you are amazing! Watching them has helped me so much with the start to my virtual year and I think that it has gone so smoothly in great part due to your tips and tricks. SO THANK YOU! YOU ROCK!
I am new to your channel and absolutely love it!! I’ve learned so much from you in such a short amount of time! 👩🏻🏫 Also, your 20-21 digital teacher planner has been a lifesaver and a total game changer. 🙏🏽 Thank you for all you do! 🍎
I’m so glad the first week went pretty smoothly for you! The first week is always the toughest; it does get better as you get into the groove! Teachers I know where I live told me it wasn’t smooth! It sounds like you have an amazing group of kids! You are going to make this year so good even in the not of best scenarios!
MICHELLLLEEEEEE!! you're a lifesaver with these videos... I'm feeling more and more comfortable with teaching virtually because of all of your helpful videos! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I def miss your vlogs and I hope you continue to do them but I know they are a lot of work!! God bless you and keep up the great work!!
WOW! Yes, I learned about master view over the summer! I don't know why I didn't know about this. lol Thanks so much for documenting and sharing your week! Great video!
Your vlogs and tutorials are amazing! I am an undergrad studying elementary education and I am doing my pre-student teaching online. Your videos provide so many great ideas to use in the classroom! Keep doing what you're doing! 👏
You had me at, "I feel like the adults have been making this into a bigger deal than it really is." It the point where I liked your video and subscribed. As a teacher and a parent, THANK YOU!
My district is having students first day on Wednesday! We are doing the hybrid model where half the class attends in-class 2days while the other half is remote and vise versa. All students are remote on Wednesdays. We are having a Meet & Greet before our first day, in class with one parent w student, by appt only. I wish I could say all families signed up, but I cannot. 😷 I am happy to see how your week went and I am now excited to begin. I look forward to meeting my students and getting back to teaching! Happy weekend. Thank you! 💖
Thank you thank you thank you Michelle! You always make me feel better when you acknowledge the same struggles I have had. I felt like my first day back was an epic fail, but the feedback from kids was positive. I’m pulling my Positive Pants back up!
Jamboard has been the best new tool I have used. My students have only used the sticky note feature and have been awesome at following directions! I’ve definitely lucked out with this group and I’m sure your “hack” will come in handy later in the year :)
That Master Slides tip is a game changer! Especially, since I'm making waaaaay more slides than I typically would during a regular school year! Whew!!!
Thank you for the tip about showing videos through the iPad & doc cam! I have given up showing videos, because on my students' end, it takes up too much of their bandwidth and really messes with their reception. I will try this idea this week🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
I started this week too! Friday morning was challenging with the issues up and down the East Coast with Verizon connectivity (I live in the DC area too- did your students experience these connectivity issues also?) and we definitely had moments of difficulty with Jamboard on Thursday where the kids found the laser pointer and the “clear frame” button while everyone was adding their sticky notes. Luckily, the other teacher on the call immediately called them out on their misbehavior while I worked to change it to viewer only- and shelved plans for Jamboard for the next several days, as we clearly need a few more days of going over expectations before using other tools. But I’m confident that my 28 3rd graders and I can figure it out!
Always great tips, thank you! It's so hard to find time to vlog right now with everything we are doing but I look forward to watching your uploads to unwind in the evenings.
Wait a minute!!!! Did you know that you can share your iPad screen onto your meets? All you have to do is download Google Meets on your ipad. Once you have it open, you can join your meeting using your Google Meets code. After that just start broadcasting, and now your students can see everything you do on your iPad. I use it as my white board when I teach. It works great!
I did that during this week 😂 I would present my iPad screen and write on a virtual whiteboard! But, that doesn’t fix the video issue. The videos still play laggy which is why I put it under the document camera instead of sharing the screen (that causes the lag).
you taught me two awesome things today that made virtual teaching a bit easier.!!! the jamboard sharing was a life saver. The Master Page creation ... Wow! Thank you thank you!!!!
I'm in Australia. In my state, we have now been online since March (our school year finishes in December). I do best when I have some time at home and some time at school. When I am home all week, I start to get really grumpy, because six months is a long time to be stuck at home, and not going more than 5km from where you live.
I can’t thank you enough for the demo on the google slide! Thank you and yes please make tutorial for us teachers! You rock! Have a great week and fyi I am on week 5 for distance teaching and have been using your e-learning attendance (it has saved my sanity).
Yay for a teaching vlog! This will be my 4th week of hybrid teaching (I have a virtual class in the morning and in class kids in the afternoon. And I’m exhausted 😂😂😂😂
Yes there is a student paced option in Kahoot. It's called Kahoot Challenge, and it's basically quizziz but Kahoot. You can also choose to turn off the timer when students are using the Kahoot.
I love your videos and I am learning more than I do when we are required to do professional development. Thank You so much for taking the time from your daily life to make these videos. And in addition to this comment, I absolutely Love your necklace!
I got excited at the start thinking you were going to take us into school with you. I miss your light switch intro! Any reason why your school suddenly changed their feelings about letting you film in school?
i have lupus and did online school for my senior year 2017-2018 Only mention lupus because i’m not sure if it changed how mine worked But all they did was give us fit bits and we had to walk, or complete a certain amount of steps per day The school i attended was 5-12, and fifth grade did the same thing as us but no idea how that would work in early elementary
Wow you are so organized! I wish they were anywhere near as prepared as you around here 🤩 Very nice video! Would love to show you what we've been up to lately, so come on over when you get a chance 😊💚💜❤️
I would not be able to survive this year without your videos! Please please please make a video about Google Meet tips and tricks. I am using two computers and want to be able to see my students on one and my screen sharing on the other, but can't figure out how to view the students while screen sharing. I have a crazy schedule. I am live-streaming two classes which means half of the students are at home, while the others are in person and the ones at home stream in to the class while I am teaching those in person. I have three hybrid classes. I see those students twice a week and three times a week I leave an assignment in Google Classroom. I have one fully virtual class (just like the classes you teach). My head is spinning! Thanks for you ideas. It's going to help me so much!
Hi Michelle! Glad it's going well! Would you be willing to share the iPad sheet for tracking you showed on day 2? I have both in person and home learning and would love that to track my students at home attending the live lesson times
We are face to face and it's so so strange. It's different because there are so many things that we can't do, but they are happy to be back. They understand why we have to do what we have to do. Ours is the parents and community members who are making us out to be bad guys because of the new rules.
Yes! I saw it was the same price and got excited because for a few weeks it was listed as over $200. I don’t want to vlog my online teaching because I want to give my full energy to my students and there is enough to worry about with all the technology. Hopefully that makes sense!
I've seen several researches about how teachers have gone through these 'distance learning' times here in Russia (because of COVID) - and a lot of people are very stressed... Lot's of difficulties, like their own level of digital literacy or some kids now having a proper devices... Yes, not easy times at all for educators. At the same time, where I am working we are even thinking about developing chat-bots to support the teachers to switch to the virtual learning. Maybe this kind of things will help.
+Pocketful of Primary Michelle , So , Your 1st day of virtual teaching started on My 42nd Birthday !! ( Tuesday September 8th ) . A lot of things are happening that are new . Again , I had to miss a week of summer camp for the first time since before 1992 , thanks to COVID shutting down My Summer Camp . No Hellos , No Activities , No Goodbyes , Nothing at all . Thank you for sharing Your School Experiences from the teacher's desk . You and teachers like you have made it acceptable to share what happens inside of a school on a school day and Your Stories and moments in the classroom with your students remind me of My Days as an autistic SPED school student and the struggles that I had to go through to be the only boy out of three in his own house to graduate with his Sr. Class in high school after almost losing my life when I was a baby and my parents being told that I would stop learning . I wish you the best this school year . #GoHumanityBeatCorona #FerreStrong - Dwight
Hello! I am doing my student teaching and as I see this video I was making last changes to my first lesson. I am very familiarized with canva so I created everything there, downloaded as png and inserted as background. Turned out super cute. I got 4th graders by the way :)
Trust me the Thursday issues were not just you... I teach not far from you in MD and our school lost power for the whole afternoon. luckily I was done my teaching for the day and the principal was like “just go home and do your planning time no sense sitting in the dark” lol
Hey Michelle! I really hope for you to see this because I have a way to fix things if you are sharing video. What you have to do is make the google meet into a google calendar event so the computer can talk with google meet together. If you click the three little dots at the top of the chrome screen then you will see "cast..." then it will open and show nothing. Right click the icon that has now appeared and then click pin. Then, when you want to show a TH-cam video, you can click that icon when you have the video open. Then, your google meet should show up if you have scheduled it in the google calendar. I think this works with other things like go noodle as you mentioned. This is not laggy as it screencasts it preloaded to everyones device instead of just sending over the laggy information from your screen which has like 10 frames per second.
I know that this would be going more smoothly for other teachers if they were as tech savvy as you, but unfortunately that is not the case. So many children are going to be left behind with the learning settings. Your district is blessed to have you.

A solid start for everyone is what we need now. More than ever, the little celebrations mean so much! Thank you for always sharing and cheering!
So happy you had a good first week! Love the idea of using Jamboard and the on/off setting for students! Going to try that this week!
Thank you Michelle! We're doing the hybrid model. I'm hoping for the best this week. We will see. I'm glad you had a good start to your school year. Again, you are amazing and have awesome ideas! Looking forward to your next video! And to everyone else out there, have a great school year!

You get an A+ for effort! Your students are very lucky to have such a dedicated teacher. I bet their families think they struck gold by getting you!
Loved seeing a vlog! You are doing great-thank you for sharing your tips, victories, and struggles. We can do this! 🎉

Learned one thing?! More like 10!🤣 Love your tips and enthusiasm!
I love your week in a life vlogs. Keep them coming!
Kinda feels like the good ol' pocketful of primary that I loved when you started. Thanks for always sharing!
WOW! Yes, I learned about master view over the summer! I don't know why I didn't know about this. lol Thanks so much for documenting and sharing your week! Great video!
You can make your phone a document camera 😀 There is holder than attaches to a table.
Your vlogs and tutorials are amazing! I am an undergrad studying elementary education and I am doing my pre-student teaching online. Your videos provide so many great ideas to use in the classroom! Keep doing what you're doing! 👏

I can't wait to try Jamboard this week in my lessons. Thanks for another great video!

I did that during this week 😂 I would present my iPad screen and write on a virtual whiteboard! But, that doesn’t fix the video issue. The videos still play laggy which is why I put it under the document camera instead of sharing the screen (that causes the lag).
I have face to face school!!! And I started September 8th..
Good luck!!!!

Awesome ideas... trying jamboard tomorrow!
Yay for a teaching vlog! This will be my 4th week of hybrid teaching (I have a virtual class in the morning and in class kids in the afternoon. And I’m exhausted 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for all the tech tips!!! You are amazing!!! 🤩💕
First year teacher from MD! My first week was a lot but I got through it!
This is pretty great! Will be using this when I will be doing virtual teaching!
Hey! I recommend using the Nod extension on the chrome web store, I highly suggest, it has features to raise hands, thumbs up or down and more! :)
Yes there is a student paced option in Kahoot. It's called Kahoot Challenge, and it's basically quizziz but Kahoot. You can also choose to turn off the timer when students are using the Kahoot.
Yeah, I knew there was an option for that. I personally prefer Quizizz because it’s a little more engaging for students 👍🏼
@@PocketfulofPrimary of course whatever works best for you 😊👍 I love your videos!
Have a great school year!
Even though there are no kids, you still can’t film?
You can go back and watch my “No More Vlogs” video... the reasoning is still the same.
I need to know all about virtual PE 😂
I’m a PE teacher... it’s rough lol
i have lupus and did online school for my senior year 2017-2018
Only mention lupus because i’m not sure if it changed how mine worked
But all they did was give us fit bits and we had to walk, or complete a certain amount of steps per day
The school i attended was 5-12, and fifth grade did the same thing as us but no idea how that would work in early elementary
My school isn’t doing virtual PE but instead they are doing a career education class
My son has to keep an "exercise log"... Yeah. Not going well.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to do it.
love it! Thank you for sharing
Thank you for your great extremely helpful tips. How do u put a doorbell sound during the virtual meet?
Love this! I remember falling for the “following directions” assignment trick all the time😂
Thanks for all your great content! Hot tip: Use the liquid premier protein for hot protein coffee! So good =)
I had a hard time getting used to online school/college. If I was still a kid, I think I would have a fun time.
I had to buy a digital camera as well. I think mine is backordered because of that reason of big demand.
Thank you!!! Thank you !!!! Thank you!!! That Google Slide Master edit is a lifesaver!!!
Appreciate the jamboard hack! 🦋
Michelle you don’t even know how much i missed these vlogs! would love them if you do them frequently!
The google tip is great! Thanks! I had about stopped using slides because it is so irritating when they ruin them, hah.
Thank you very much. You are wonderful women. I would like to thank you for all your educational videos, as they helped me a lot.
Your tips are amazing!!!!
Hi Michelle! Glad it's going well! Would you be willing to share the iPad sheet for tracking you showed on day 2? I have both in person and home learning and would love that to track my students at home attending the live lesson times
Watching this while doing my online school homework :)
We are face to face and it's so so strange. It's different because there are so many things that we can't do, but they are happy to be back. They understand why we have to do what we have to do. Ours is the parents and community members who are making us out to be bad guys because of the new rules.
You were on the today show!!! I literally spit my coffee out 😂
As a former first grade teacher let me just say, you are amazing. I enjoy your energy.
omg where is that necklace from on thursday? it's gorgeous!
Useful information.
Document camera, still the same price.
Question: Are you able to vlog your online teaching when you are working from home?
Yes! I saw it was the same price and got excited because for a few weeks it was listed as over $200. I don’t want to vlog my online teaching because I want to give my full energy to my students and there is enough to worry about with all the technology. Hopefully that makes sense!
I believe instead of making a copy of the slides every time, you can save what you made as a new theme, which is just a little faster!
I did a Google Meet breakout room and the tip is you have to have them leave the original google meet because it slows down a lot.
Unfortunately we have to keep them in a whole class Google Meet at all times.
Seeing the students was the best. Tech issues were frustrating.
I'm a computer tech at a local school district and fully agree about the tech issues.
There is a student paced option on Kahoots..it’s a life saver

Michelle ,
So , Your 1st day of virtual teaching started on My 42nd Birthday !!

Great ideas. How do you incorporate a timer in your slide?
